Payne WI meets At the Public relations meeting of the Hensall Women's Institute held on Wednesday, January 11, the guest speaker, Mrs. Susan Whyte of Seaforth was unable to attend clue to the weather conditions. Mrs. Hilda Payne gave a few thoughts on what public relations is, especially per- taining to the Women's Institute movement and outlined the scope of the local newspapers in public relations, mentioning things the public can do for the and what the can do for the newspaper newspaper public. Supplying musical num bers on the program were th four Pepper sisters, Brenda Marilyn, Laurie and Joanne With Brenda at the piano, th trio sang "Sam's Song" and "Reach out to Jesus", an with Laurie at .the piano the thio sang, "Pass it on". A piano duet was also played by Brenda and Laurie, "Brigh as a button". The meeting was presided over by the 'president Mrs Cecil. Pepper and cards o thanks for gifts received were read from Brenda Pepper, Janet Bilcke, Dianne Ger stenkorn and Joyce Pepper. A letter regarding the Senior Training School, "Per- sonalize your Pattern" was read, but nobody volunteered to take the training c9urse. Arrangements were made for the public Euchre to be held on the next meeting night, February 8 at 8 p.m. in the Legion Hall. Admission $1. After closing the meeting a contest was enjoyed' before lunch was served. Unit I UCW The new study book, "New Mission for a New People" was introduced by Mrs. Don Joynt at the January meeting of Unit one of Hensall United Church on Thursday, January 12. _ The devotional was given by Mrs. Ken Elder, who presided over the meeting. Her subject was "Things come to pass". The story of life is like an ocean port with ships coming and going. Letters from unit, adopted girl were e. Annual meeting of Hensall United Church and pot luck supper is on January 25 at 6:30 p.m., unit one to wash dishes. On March 3, the World Day of Prayer is to be held at Hensall United Church. Unit one is responsible for flowers in the church this month. The meeting closed with the Mizpah Benediction and lunch with hostesses Mrs. Robert Drysdale and Mrs. Clendon Christie. Church News Rev. Don Beck canducted the service at Hensall United Church on Sunday with Mrs. John Turkheim at the organ. Mr. Harry Horton sang a solo, "Dear Lord, Forgive". The subject of the sermon was, "Our name is...." Flowers in the church were placed there in loving memory of Mrs. Norma Gass by her family. The annual meeting of the Hensall congregation will be held on Wednesday, January 25 and will begin with a pot luck supper at 6:30 p.m. Hensall Happenings Mr. and Mrs. Francis Harburn and Mrs. Madelihe Harburn have returned f ron a pleasant trip to Florida. Mrs. Elizabeth Riley and Miss Cheryl Riley returned from a two week v' . to Tampa, Florida last Tuesday in the blizzard, but drove through the storm from Toronto to Mitchell. Hockey news Hensall bantams played Elma-Logan (Monkton) on Thursday, January 12 at Vanastra and won 3-1. Hensall scored two goals in the first period, the first by - Doug Volland assisted by Dave Consitt and the second by Dave Consitt assisted by Jeff Rowe. In the second period only one goal was scored by Jamie McClinchey assisted by Jeff Sangster and Jeff Consitt. The third period ....'�w'6.s..., scoreless for Hensall, but Elma-Logan's Danny Marks put one in, assisted by Danny Wilson, sliding it past the goal keeper. Hensall pee wees played twice, against Elma-Logan on Friday, losing 3-0; and against Grand Bend on Saturday, again losing 4-2. Ron Lavery scored both goals for Hensall in the latter game. Hensall Bantams played again on Monday night against Elma-Logan winning by 8-3. In the first period, Hensall led all the way, scoring four goals in the first period against Elma-Logan's one. The lone goal scored by the latter team went to Donald Marks assisted by Don Wilson while Hensall's scorers were Doug Volland assisted by Jamie McClinchey, 'and Ron Lavery, Jess Rowe assisted by Pete Bedard, Dave Consitt unassisted and finally Jeff Rowe unassisted. Hensall scored their other four goals in the second period with Elma-Logan again scoring only one goal Sales barn Supply at the Hensall Sales Barn consisted mainly of heifers and steers with an active demand and steady prices. This campaign will be held on the evening of Monday, January 30. The next meeting will be, held on Feb 20. Unit II UCW The study book, "New EXTRA MEATY Missions for a New People" was introduced to Unit two of Hensall United Church by Mrs. Ron Waring at their meeting on Monday, January 16. A New Year devotional was given by Mrs. Vern Alderdice in which she suggested that a new year is like a new room in our lives. Go in with courage and confidence. The business was con- ducted by newly elected leader, Mrs. Hans Ger- stenkorn. Unit two • are responsible for flowers in . March and the programme for the meeting in April. At the annual congregational meeting on January 25 the unit is to serve and a hot roast beef dinner will probably be held on April 26. The World Day of prayer will be held in the United Church on March 3 with Mrs. Van Essen of Exeter as speaker. CLINTON NEWS -RECORD, THURSDAY, JANUARY 19, 1978 -PAGE 13 Eight CP railway cars loaded with salt derailed at Goderich Harbor Saturday morning, ripping up track, smashing the railway cars and spilling tons of salt along the track route. The rail cars were part of 15 that somehow got loose and followed the track from Meneset to Goderich Harbor before deralting. CP work crews were cleaning up the site Monday and Tuesday.
