may be from the farm yard, and quite gen-

impregnated with pollution that an un-

disease will result from its use.
Unsatisfactory Judging.
We have visited the Majority of spring
fairs this year, and, in almost every in -

been done., There Will have to be a neW

to the Societies in this district the plan of
appointing one judge foe the light and one

is becoming a popular one at shows through-
out the eastern part of the Province, pro-
viding disinterested and outside men can be
found. to act as judges, is thought to be the
best way of conducting spring fairs, as is in-
dicated by the general satisfaction expressed
wherever tested.
False Report.
It has been reported that Mr. Thos Shute
had sold his farm in Usboine, to Mr. Robt.
Cooper. This rumour is incorrect. A
gentleman, who recently lived M the neigh-
borhood, but who DOW resides in Exeter, is
busily engaged circulating reports about
this farm, stating that tbe land ts poor and
non-prodnctive, and the figure asked, too
high. These assertions are incorrect, as
Mr. Shute has not, as yet, made the price
wanted known to any one. The circulator
of the report had better ascertain the facts
before he further spreads his unfounded
knowledge. The farm is offered for sale,
owing to the death of the late Mrs. Shute,
and the intention of the son, John, going to
California, end not because it is nonpro-
ductive It is unnecessary to say that there
is not a better appointed farm, nor one of
superior soil in the township. --Com.

it not use evevy endeavor te keep up the
standing of the aehool ? Rootn is urgently
demanded and must soon be obtained. Let
all unite and decide that we will have a new
building worthy of the school that has been
built up. Then we shall be able to speak
not of the High School but of the Collegiate
Institute of Parkhill." We Save, .for 81
number of years, been advocating the estab-
lishment of EL High School in :Exeter, but
owing to a leek of interest by our
citizens in matters pertaining to edacation,
the scheme has been allowed to remain
dormant. It is Very wrong. There i$ not
a lsetter centre in Western Ontario for a
High School, than Exeter, and the argu-
ments in favor of establishing that deticler-

vincing that further writing upon the sub-
ject should not be necessary.

Arbor Day.
lu accordance with the expressed wishes
of a number of ratepai'ersnn;the reeve has
been pleased to narne Weclmeaclay, May 4th
next, as Arbor day for Exeter. This is a
good move, and it now mats with the citi-
zens to do their duty. Every man should
feel himself directly interested. Previous
years no systematie scheme has been in-
stituted for having our beautiful streets
planted as they should be. What *beautiful
and shady streets we would. now have, had
not this itnportant matter been neglected
in years gone by. If a little time and money
were devoted to this purpose each year we
wOuld in the course of a few years see grati-
fying results, and Exeter would ..present an
appearance equal to any town in the dis-
trict. The day has been appointed •and it
is particularly requested that every one who
can will devote that day to tree planting on
the streets, each man looking to the beauti-
fying of his locality. It is also the intention
to set out about 100 hard and soft maples,
20 or 30 cedars and a few hemlock, on the
old, market square near the saw mill, wIliCh
plot of ground in the course of a few years
will be used as a public park. This is a
laudable scheme and every man who can
spare a team for the day is requested to do
so. Let all work hard, and the fruits of the
labor will be visible ere long.
