The town council turned down the township's original offer of $20,000 to help pay for recreation and the com- 4 .munity centre. Instead, the town council is asking for 30 per cent of the cost of running the recreation programs. The township council noted that they would stick by their $20,000 offer and would meet with the Kincardine Council on it before their 1977 agreement runs out at the end of the month. The Lucknow Sentinel reported that construction will begin this month on the Lucknow and District 'Community Centre with the completion date set for May 1978. The fund raising committee noted in .the paper that 18 requests for bookings have already been received. The Goderich Signal Star reported that the town's fire chief, Ralph Kingswell has resigned from the volunteer fire department, effective February 1, 1978. The Wallace Township council plans to send its resolution to other municipalities for en- dorsement. The Exeter Times Advocate reported that residents of Oakwood have no desire to change the boun- daries between themselves and Grand Bend and become involved in the village of Grand Bend. The Grand Bend council is 100 per cent in favor of an- nexation and sent out letters to the residents of Oakwood and homes along Highway 21, , north, explaining the benefits of a large Grand Bend. The Mitchell Advocate reported that the town has a new award. This year the special honor was presented to Miss Verna Colquhoun in honor of her 50 years of devoted service as librarian at the Mitchell Public Library. Town councillor Clarke Moses presented the plaque to Miss Colquhoun. The Huron Expositor reported that, Mitchell firemen were called to fire in Dublin last Wednesday morning when the home of Mr. and Mrs. Doug Small was completely destroyed. No one was home at the time, but a dog died in the blaze. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, nor the estimates of the damage. The Blyth Standard featured an unusual picture and story in their paper this week. Harvey Sillib of Blyth was shown with a bridlemade entirely of horsehair which was recently willed to him by a distant cousin. The bridle is at least 75 years old and was made by a prisoner in a penitentiary out west. Mr. Sillib's uncle bought if from a hotel keeper and then it was owned by Mr. Sillib's cousin. Members of a Copenhagen, Denmark bantam hockey team stopped on their way to the Bruce Nuclear Plant where they would tour the plant and later playa game in Chesley. Along with that the team participated in other games and was presented with a key to Zurich by the town council. Man wins 8100 in hockey draw Don MacDonald of High Street in Clinton was picked as the first winner in this year's Junior Mustang Hockey Club and Minor Hockey Association 350 Booster club draw. MacDonald won $100 in the first of 15 draws to be held in the next 12 months. Prizes -this year total $3,000. The first draw was made last Sunday night at the. Intermediate hockey game.
