CLINTON NEWS -RECORD; THURSDAY, JANUARY 19,1978,,PAGE i
Huron Snowararna date set for Jan. 29
During the past three
winters, participants in
Whipper Watson's annual
Snowarama for Timmy have
raised over $500,000 for the
Ontario Society for Crippled
Children.
Last winter, here in the
London area, 357
snowmobilers completed
their 100,, mile course and
raised $39,000.
This coming winter, Society
organizers in ..cooperation
with local •participating
Easter Seal service clubs and
regional snowmobile `clubs
and associations have in-
creased the number of official
courses throughout Ontario to
19.
With five additional
courses, the Society also
hopes to increase the number
of entrants to 3,000.
Starting point for
Snowarama in this area is
Hully Gully and Pine Ridge
between 7:30 a.m. and 10:30
a.m. Sunday January 29th.
The host club contact is Mike
Ca.issie of the Hully Gully
Snowmobile Club, telephone
238-8195.
Anyone wanting entry
forms, sponsor sheets or
information is asked to
contact the official at the
above number. -
Apart from raising much
needed funds to develop local
and province -wide
rehabilitation services for
physically handicapped
children, Snowarama is
designed to show that in
careful hands snowmobiles
offer safe, enjoyable winter
recreation without causing
damage to the environment.
The "Huron Ride" will
cover some 85 miles of varied
terrain and scenic Huron
County country side.
Shortened somewhat from
last year's ride to ac-
commodate the wishes of
more snowmobilers, the ride
will offer two starting points,
one from Hully Gully and the
other at Pineridge. Both
facilities will have
registration, starting and
ample parking for the
snowmobilers.
The food vouchers, given
free to each participant, can
alsobe redeemed at either of
these two points along the
trail.
There are four other check
points along the trail where
riders must have their cards
punched to show proof of
completion. These check
points will 'be manned by the
local Easter Seal Service
Clubs.
Gas, St. John's Ambulance
personnel, coffee and hot
chocolate will all be available
along the trail with regular
safety patrol and clean-up
being carried on by the trails
committees of the various
snowmobile clubs.
The co-operation of hun-
dreds. of landowners along the
trail makes this all possible
and our deepest thanks goes
out to each of them.

When an undertaking the size of the 1978 Smowerama for crippled kids is
initiated, many details have to be worked out. A few of the many individuals in-
volved in the organization of this event are Randy Collins of Hully Gully, Arnold
Taylor of the newly formed Hully Gully snowmobile club and Bill Rock, the
designer of this year's course. (Exeter T -A photo)
