Fewer births
now .
In 1952 the Clinton Public
Hospital reported that 286
babies were born over the
year, 33 more than in 1951.
However, with the advent
of birth control and the high
expense in raising large .
families, the birth rate has
dropped considerably' in
Clinton. At the end of 1977 the
hospital reported 79 births in
1977. The 1976 figure of 95
births was somewhat higher.
It may be interesting to
note that the highest number
of births in 1977 occurred in
November with 12 and
December with 10, leaving
the birth rates of the other
months of the year"at sevep
and under.
' Along with the decrease in
births over the past 25 years,
there has also been a
decrease in deaths. In 1952
the number of people to die
in Clinton was 91. However, in
both 1976 and 1977 the number
of deaths had dropped to 52,
for each year.
