Jepartment of highway crews worked long hours this week trying to keep area highways
open. At times they lost the battle, but when winds dropped on Tuesday night, they suc-
ceeded in getting all the roads open, although they were single lanes in places. Here a
large 18 -ton plow goes into the Clinton highways garage for repairs after a six -hour run to

Clinton Town Council briefs
In other business arising
out of last Monday night's
Clinton council meeting, it
was learned'.
• That council will 'meet
with several members of the
Horticulture Society about
helping the group financially
with their town beautification
program. Last year members
put 400 volunteer hours into
town owned flower beds.
• That the county planning
department has deferred
until 1979 work on Clinton's
secondary plan because of
budget restrictions.
• That they have given 11
parking permits at $15 each to
the ministry of agriculture
office after a " request from
Don Pullen, who pointed out
the difficulty of finding
parking spaces for the
several hundred people a
week who visit the ag. office.
• That the new Royal Bank
manager was issued a
parking permit because he is
in and out of the bank a great
deal.
• That they agreed with a
resolution from the town of
Collingwood asking the
federal government to
reinstate the death penalty,
control firearms, and abolish
free passes to prisoners.
• That the provincial
government agreed with a
resolution from council
initiated by the Township of
McNab calling for taxes to be
paid on new, hut unoccupied
homes.
• That the Anti -Inflation
Board has decided to let the
town employees have an eight
percent raise after all.
• That the town can
borrow up to $100,000 until
taxes come in if needed, but
hasn't done so in two years.
