At times they lost the battle, but when winds dropped on Tuesday night, they suc- ceeded in getting all the roads open, although they were single lanes in places. (News -Record photo) Clinton Town Council briefs In other business arising out of last Monday night's Clinton council meeting, it was learned'. • That council will 'meet with several members of the Horticulture Society about helping the group financially with their town beautification program. Last year members put 400 volunteer hours into town owned flower beds. • That the county planning department has deferred until 1979 work on Clinton's secondary plan because of budget restrictions. • That they have given 11 parking permits at $15 each to the ministry of agriculture office after a " request from Don Pullen, who pointed out the difficulty of finding parking spaces for the several hundred people a week who visit the ag. office. • That the new Royal Bank manager was issued a parking permit because he is in and out of the bank a great deal. • That they agreed with a resolution from the town of Collingwood asking the federal government to reinstate the death penalty, control firearms, and abolish free passes to prisoners. • That the provincial government agreed with a resolution from council initiated by the Township of McNab calling for taxes to be paid on new, hut unoccupied homes. • That the Anti -Inflation Board has decided to let the town employees have an eight percent raise after all. • That the town can borrow up to $100,000 until taxes come in if needed, but hasn't done so in two years. News of Holmesville by Blanche Deeves Worship service was held in Holmesville - Church on Sunday with the children going to the Sunday School rooms. Rev. John Oestreicher was in charge. All meetings in this area have been cancelled due to the weather. The Township dance will be held at the White Carnation on January 21st. Robbie Blake has been home from the west visiting with his parents, Mr. and Gordon Stock visited with his sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. George Young over the holiday. Mr. and Mrs. Jones visited recently with Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Gackstetter in Guelph. Mr. and Mrs. Ross Faber are holidaying in Florida. New Years visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Harold Jones were Mr. and Mrs•. Jim Love, Kathy and Carolyn, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Love, and Fayeanne, Mr. and Mrs. Grant Jones and family, and Mrs. Pearl Love. Kippen East WI will en- tertain the Hensall Senior Citizen Club to a luncheon at noon in the Legion Hall, January 18. Mrs. William McDowell will give cu'rent events. Each member is asked to bring something for first course and something for second course, or two things for first course.
