Bell Canada takes over Maitland Teleservices
The cost.of basic telephone
service for Brussels, Blyth,
Auburn and area customers
rose last week with the of-
ficial takeover by Bell
Canada of Maitland
Teleservices Limited.
Increases range from five
cents for Auburn customers
on a multi party line to $11.75
in the cost of having a
business phone installed.
Rates for a private line in
Auburn rise to $5.05 from
Maitland Teleservices rate of
$4.35. A private line in Blyth
will cost $5.05 per month, up
from $4.65. A Brussels
customer with a private line
will now pay $5.30 instead of
the $4.95 that Maitland
charged.
Increases are also, effective
for customers on two party
lines. Auburn customers will
pay $3.80, . up from , the
previous $3.45. Blyth
customers will be charged
$3.80, 20 cents more than
before, and Brussels people
will see the two party rate
rise by 15 cents to $4.00 per
month.
Multi party line rates in
Auburn, go to $3.35 from
$3.30, In Blyth they decline 15
cents, to $3.35 from the
previous $3.50. Multi party
rates in Brussels are down 20
cents, to $3.45 from $3.65.
Businesses in the three
villages will also be paying
more for phones as a result of
the Bell takeover. Auburn
businesses with a single
phone previously paid $7.35.
The Bell rate is $9.85. Blyth
businesses will see the rate
jump from $8.40 to $9.85. In
Brussels, the business phone
rate will rise to $11.20 from
the previous $9.60.
Installation charges also
rise substantially for
customers formerly served
by Maitland Teleservices.
Cost of installing a business
phone goes from $20.50 to
$32.25 in all three villages. A
residential customer will pay
$15.50 to have a phone in-
stalled. Maitland Teleser-
vices had charged $12.50 for
the same service. Installation
of an extension rises from
$10.50 to $14.25.

Kelly Colquhoun had the
ladies' high single of 219.
Debbie Wise had the high
triple of 571 and Jacki Zwaan
took the high average of the
Gary Armstrong had the
men's high single of 222 and
the high triple of 617. Jamie
Cooper took the high average
with 214.

Bruce's Buddies is first
with 53 and the Corner Pin Six
are Close behind with 52
points.
Leonard's Dumbells and
the Do Goods are tied with 48,
while the MacTacks have 47
and the James Gang is last

ladies' high single of 231.
Marie Collins had the high
triple of 620 and the high
average of 210,
In the men's .scoring, Joe
Daer had the high single of
328 while Art Burt had the
high triple of 835 and the high
average df 245.

Jo Spinner, owned by Franc
Stroop of Fordwich, was a
winner of herfirst race in two
years. She is now being
trained by her driver Dennis
Jewitt of Clinton. Dainty
Meadow was driven to a
second place finish by Don
O'Dwyer for owner and
trainer Bob Vanstone of
Goderich in the same race,
Gary, Payne was third in
the seventh with Sokys Honey
for owner Frank Little of
Goderich.

Mrs. Maggie Campbell

committee. A discussion
arose over the "birthday
party" tobe held in
February. it was decided to
finalize arrangements at the
next regular meeting on
January 18.
Following the meeting, an
exchange of gifts was made
and the "secret pais"
revealed. Refreshments were
served in the lower hall and a
social hour enjoyed by all.

tulip farm in Holland. Watch

Dig, dig, dig, was the chant many motorists took up this
week after a blizzard buried many cars, roads, and even
homes. By Wednesday morning the winds were dying down
