Other guests,. at the Keys home were Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Cantelon of Seaforth and their family. On Tuesday the family was home again for a visit with Bruce's niece and family, Mr. and Mrs. Andre DeDecker, Kate and Laura, of Tillsonburg. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Keys held a family gathering onl3oxing Day. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Kirton held Christmas on Christmas Eve for the Peck family. On Monday they were in Wingham with Jim's family. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Hill entertained their neighbours at a wine -and cheese.party on Wednesday evening, Dec. 28. Mr. and Mrs. Bev Hill and family moved into their new home in time to spend Christmas there. New Year's Day guests with the Chessells were Mrs. Jefferson and Mr. and Mrs.' Bob Laing and family of - Cromarty, Mr. and Mrs. Don Riehl and family of Sebringville, and Mr. and Mrs. Norman Jefferson and family of Fullarton. Celebrating New Year's, .with Bill and Joyce Dowson and family on Sunday were Margaret Dowson, Ella Jewitt, Ken Jewitt and Joanne Gibson, Ross and Bonnie Jewitt and family, John and Barbara Jewitt and family, Dennis and Janet Jewitt and family, Don and Pat Jewitt, Debbie Presz- cater and Calvin Lovett. Visitors for dinner on the 27th at the Dowson home to celebrate John's 14th bir- thday were Tom, Barb, Paul, Scott and Lori Consitt and Margaret Dowson. Quite a few people around the village have been sick with cold and flu this past week. The United Church service on Sunday was conducted by Mrs. Margaret Taylor, assisted by ' Mrs. Joyce Dowson. Rev. Taylor has been confined to hospital with the flu. He was feeling much better on Monday. Mrs. Shirley Hill was the organist -in place of Mrs. Mildred McAsh, who was also ill. A reminder to the ladies - the January U.C.W.'meeting will be held tonight (Thur- sday) at 8:30 p.m. News of Holmesville By Blanche Deeves Women's Institute The Goderich Township Women's Institute will sponsor a' card party on January 12 in the Holmesville School at 8:15 p.m. Ladies -are asked to please bring sand- wiches. Admission will be $1. The next card party will be held on January 26, at the same place and at the same time. The WI group will meet in the township hall at 1:30 p.m. on January 9. All the ladies are please asked -to bring• a dessert for one. Personals Gordon Yeo, son of Eldon and Ethel Yeo, is off to" the Rose Bowl Parade with the mass pipe band which in- cludes the Clinton Legion r Band. Mrs. Herb MacAdam visited her son• Joe on th,e, weekend. Get well wishes are sent to Joe. Shirley Norman of Kit- chener was home for Christmas and New Year's dinners with her parents and families. Mr. and Mrs William Norman opened their home for both Christmas and New Year's to their families and relatives. Douglas and Barb Norman and daughters spent three days ° in Toronto over the holidays. . Mr. and Mrs. Allan Betties of Clinton entertained 14 members of the Betties family to a New Year's dinner. Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Betties held a New Year's Eve party at their home for friends and. neighbours. Don and Bonnie Lockwood motored to Florida during the holidays. • Murray Perdue and his family of London spent Christmas with Clarence and Jean Perdue. Holmesville Church Worship service in the Holmesville Unified Church was held on 'Sunday with Sunday School in the church hall. Rev. John Oestriecher was in charge. The UCW of the Holmesville United Church will meet in the church hall at 2 p.m. on January 10. Bayfield scouts notes The 3 M's group.will meet on Saturday evening, January 7, at 7 p.m. for their pot luck supper in the basement of St. Andrew's United Church. Also, St. Andrew's will hold their congregational annual meeting at 8 p.m., Monday, January 23 in the church. Bayfield Boy Scouts were guests elf "Scoutmaster John Siertsema in his home on Friday evening, December 23 for their Christmas party. After playing games ano exchanging gifts the boys enjoyed a feast of pizza. All families involved in the Scouting movement, which included Brownies, Cubs and Scouts are invited`to a pot- luck supper at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 14. The flowers were placed in honour of the marriage of Board of Education elects 1978 officers The Huron County Board of Education held its inaugural meeting Tuesday afternoon and elected a board chairman. and vice chairman and the chairmen of the board's four policy committees. The newly elected officers then formed a striking committee to decide on membership for the four policy committees, a budget committee and a collective bargaining committee. R. J. Elliott of Blyth was elected board chairman over Marion Zinn, vice chairman of the board in 1977 and the Qnly other candidate for the chairman in 1978.. Resource Centre The Vanastra Resource Centre will begin its new year on January 5 and wilI hold its regular activities from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. --Four new staff members have been hired under a Canada Works Project and all residents of Vanastra are urged to come out and meet Elizabeth Warren (project manager), Edna "Jeffrey (Secretary), Ginny Floyd (community worker), and Dale Harrison . John Henderson of Seaforth defeated Jack Alexander of Wingham as chairman of the fiscal and property policies committee and will serve with Alexander and Donald McDonald on that committee. Dorothy Wallace of Goderich was acclaimed chairman of the school programs committee and will serve with Charles Rau and Cayley Hill. ' Dorothy Williams was acclaimed chairman of the student policy committee and will work .with Marion Zinn and R. K. Peck. Trustees Herb Turkheim, Shirley Hazlitt, John Hen- derson, Clarence McDonald and R. K. Peck will make up the collective bargaining committee.,• The 1978 budget comittee will consist of Alex Corrigan, John Elliott, Shirley Hazlitt, John Henderson, Dorothy Wallace and Dorothy Williams.
