Figure skating club news
Christine Baker.
Time ran out before the•
testing was completed, so
further tests, will be con-
ducted in January.
Congratulations to all who
passed. •
It may be noted from the
above results that it is
possible for a young child to
pass one or two tests in a 1/2
year. One Hour a week is not
sufficient practice, however.
It can only be done if a parent
persists in taking his child to
skate for all possible skating
ice time.
In the Clinton arena, those
times are: Tuesday 3.30 - 5
p.m., Wednesday 2 - 4 p.m.,
and Sundays 1 - 2p.m. for
small tots, 2 - 4p.m. older
children and adults. A.
secretary, Carol Fox often
says, "Children onlly learn to
skate by skating. The more
time put into it the better they
get."
This Saturday January 7,
we start afresh with a
"reshuffled deck" as it were.
With so many passing tests
the groups will lose some
members to a higher group
and welcome new ones. We
ho a you like your new coach
an that she likes you
bec use your're such a good
wor r.
Be inners, did you forget to
re- ' gister for the second
session? You still may do so
this Saturday January 7. New
members may register then
too and begin skating 11-12.
noon.
The club is delighted to
wecome back a former in-
termediate skater, Anne
Levis. Welcome back to the
fold, Ann.
Saturday, December 31
marked the last day of the
first learn -to -skate session of
the '77-'78 season: It was a
busy day with the seniors and
intermediates concentrating
even harder on dances they
will be trying January 8 at
Vanastra, while the begin-
ners and juniors tried tests
for their N.S.T. badges. Mr.
Gordon and Miss Jeffries,
club professionals, acted as
the judges.
When you're three or four,
you work hard just staying
erect and manoeuver around
on the ice in one's own
fashion. It takes time to
strengthen the ankles and to
syncronize the messages
from the head to the feet.
Parents shouldn't expect any
great advancement towards
earning a badge during these
years.
A few five year-olds passed
their beginner badge this past
1/2 season. Two of the most
recent passes were Krista
Rothwell and Jason Wilson.
-Other six and seven year-olds
who . passed their beginners
badge were Lori Le Beau,
Craig Lockhart, Jeffrey
Postm.., and Lori Forbes.
Several young skaters,
including a young five-year-
old member, passed their
stroking badge; Dawn Powell
-five years, Steven Caldwell,
Brian Buffinga, Jodi
Mustard, 'Bonita Haak,
Nancy Broadfoot, Joanne
Duddy.
None were ready to try the
elementary test.
Three passed the fourth
badge called basic; Joanne
Morden, Sandra Postma, and
