Baptists celebrate Xmas
Many members, friends
and''' guests enjoyed the
special services at the
Bayfield Baptist Church on
Christmas Day. Pastor Ivor
Bodenham was the guest
speaker for all the services,
beginning with the Sunday
School for all ages at 10 a.m.
and worship service at 11
a.m. ending with the evening
service at 7:30 p.m.
Speaking on "The Birth of
Jesus Christ", he took his text
from the first two chapters of
the Gospel of Luke and asked
the question -- "Do you
believe in the, virgin birth?"
He said that Mary and Joseph
had great faith in their Lord
in spite of what they knew
they would have to face in
ridicule and sarcasm from
both neighbours and friends
as well as relatives, Do we
have cuc'h faith when asked to
serve God today?
This same Jesus now sitting
on the right hand of God
making intercession for those
who accept Him. While on
earth He said "Whosoever
will may come". The true
Christian is saved by the shed
blood of the Saviour, saved to
worship Him and to serve
Him until Het returns and
takes His own maybe soon,
maybe today -- so many will
miss this joy because they
would not accept Him, but
always said maybe
tomorrow. Will you be ready
when He comes,,,?f"
The specialnusic for the
day was presented by Miss
Evelyn Schell, who is home
for Christmas from the
Canadian Sunday School
Mission in Ayer's Cliff,
Quebec. She sang two
beautiful solos -- "There's A
Song in the Air," and "That
Wonderful Name.', Miss
Shirley Keys accompanied
her on the piano. Pastor
Bodenham will be the visiting
pastor for next Sunday,
January 1.
Saturday evening at eight
o'clock there will be a Wafch
'.Might service in the Bayfield
Baptist Church, beginning
with a film, "In His Steps".
This is a very good film and
should interest both young
and old.
There will be a break at 10
p.m. for light refreshments in
the Sunday School rooms,
after which there will be
singing of favourite humns,
testimonies and special
prayer. Praying theld year
out and the New Year in.
Everyone is invited to attend
all or any part of this service.

EVERYONE WELCOME
Mrs. Sadie Murney has
spent the past week with her
daughter and son-in-law, Mr.
and Mrs. John Cummings and
family in Mount Brydges.
Mr. and Mrs. Doug Talbot,
Wendy and Lisa, Mr. and
Mrs. Les Talbot and Cari
Lynn spent Boxing Day with
the parents, brothers and
sister of both Mrs. Talbot's,
Mr. and Mrs. John Southwell,
Shawn, Sherry and Scott in
London.
A sleigh ride planned by the
Bayfield Baptist Church that
had to become a wagon ride
was very much enjoyed by all
those participating. They
drove around the village
entertaining many shut-ins
with their carol singing and
called on the residents of the
Clan Gregor'apartments.
They returned to the
parsonage where they had a
time of fellowship and
refreshments. A special
thanks goes to Mr. Tom
Penhale for bringing his
horses and wagon for this
special occasion; in spite of
the rather slippery condition
of the Bayfield streets.
Everyone was waiting for Santa at the Vanastra Day Care Centre last week which will
remain open despite a fire. Left to right are Mrs. Carol Munro, Laura Munro, Jennifer
Burt, and Sean Dixon, all of Vanastra. (photo by Wilma Oke)
Hay reeve seeking warden's spot
Reeve Jack Tinney of Hay,
Township is attempting to
become a member of an elite
group - Hay township reeves
who have served as Wardens
for the County of Huron.
Since 1898 there have only
been six such individuals -
George McKuen - 1889; Peter
Lamont - 1909; Elmer Klopp -
1927; Louis H. Rader - 1932;
" George Armstrong - 1942 and
Earl Campbell - 1955.
Tinney, the father of eight
children, farms 200 acres in
the middle of Hay township
and has spent 10 years on
municipal council plus
another six on county council.
On his intentions' behind
seeking the Warden's chair
Tinney says that "it would be
a nice way of finishing up my
career."
When asked if this implied
that Tinney was considering a
withdrawal from public life
sometime in the near future,
the reeve replied that it's up
to the voters of the township
to determine his future,
"I'd like to see the county
continue to show the
way....Huron County has_
always been a leader,"
Tinney stated.
He emphasized that power
at the local level of govern-
ment should be `maintained.
A close race for the highest
post in Huron is predicted by
Tinney with himself, Gerry
Ginn, reeve of Goderich
township and Bob Lyons of
West Wawanosh townshif
involved in the contest.
Tinney stated that in his
travels around the county he
has been well received with
the "hospitality being
terrific."
