`Stings opponents close in
By Bryan Marriage
The Clinton Mustangs,
after a narrow 3 . 2 victory in
Hanover, one week ago, had
to score a late third period
goal in Clinton last Friday
night to salvage a tie with the
Kincardine Kinucks.
Hot goaltending by Kin-
cardine's John Collins proved
to he the stumbling block as
the Stangs peppered 45 shots
at him while the Kinucks
managed only 25 on Clinton's
Dean Ryan.
Tam McLean scored the
opening goal early in the first
period and Kincardine
rebounded to tie the game on
a goal by Kevin Stewart.
The Kinucks opened the
scnrins' in the second period
ori a power play goal with Neil
Colquhoun serving a holding
penalty. Colquhoun tied the
game seven minutes later
and Tim McLean put the
Stangs ahead again at the
midway mark.
But Kincardine rebounded
with another power play goal
while John Hart was serving
an elbowing penalty to end
the second period deadlocked
at three apiece,
In the third period the
Kinucks opened the scoring
again, but Paul Helesic,
assisted by Neil Colquhoun
scored on a fine effort to give
the Stangs the tie.
The Stangs tried in vain to
get the eventual winner, but
were turned down time and

Cornspiel date set
Farmers are invited to a
Cornspiel at the Vanastra
Curling Club on March 22,
1978.
This fall was one of the
most frustrating in many
years for the farmers to
harvest their crop because of
the severe weather conditions
then on top of that the price of
corn hasn't been that great.
So to cheer everybody up
and get back in the mood to
put in another crop next
spring, the boys at Vanastra
came up with the idea of a
bonspiel for corn producers.
Feed corn elevators and
seed corn salesmen were
approached and thought it
was a good idea and agreed to
sponsor the event as long as it
was restricted to corn
producers only.
The bonspiel will be held
later en in the winter and
should give you farmers who
have never thrown a stone,
curling stone that is, a chance'
to get in some practice at

tough contest as the Port
Elgin Bears come to town to
battle the Mustangs.
Although the Port Elgin
team holds down only fourth
spot in the league the
Mustangs have yet to defeat
them, and they look forward
to ending the year 1977 on a
victory note over the Bears.
On behalf of the Clinton
Mustangs, players, coach,
manager and executive, we
thank all those who supported
us in 1977 and hope you'll
continue to do so in 1978 and
we wish you all a "Happy
