More wishes are made at
this time of year than at any
other. And while most of them
are directed outward - on
New Year's Eve most of us
have a few personal wishes
for the coming year. While
doing the wishing consider
this anonymous quotation, "If
you don't get everything you
want, think of the things you
don't get that you don't
want."
Mr. and Mrs. Milton Wiltse,
Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Elliott
were pre -Christmas visitors
with Mrs. Edith Hartford and
Mrs. Mona Cramer of Lon-
don, the former's sister and
niece.

the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Cecil Elliott were Mr. and
Mrs. Milton Wiltse of
Huronview, Miss Elva Wiltse,

Merrill, Bayfield, Mr. •and
Mrs. Dave Brown and Joanne
of Kitchener and Mr. and
Mrs. Wayne Cantelon, R.R. 3

Baird 2/Sarnia.
The following Christmas
greeting was received in the
mail in our office on Thur-
sday, December 22 - too late,
for our Christmas edition. We
are putting the message in
Town Talk hoping that those
interested will see it.
"Greetings and best wishes to
all our friends and neighbours
from John and Anna Gelling,

Not many of you managed
to phone or write an account
of your Christmas goings and
comings so far, maybe for
next week's column. Here's a
resume of the office staff's
activities over the holidays:
Editor Jim and wife Lois
along with children, Andrea
and Kristopher visited in
London . on Christmas Day
and in Listowel on Boxing
Day. b
Advertising manager, Gary
Haist, was home with his
family in Stoney Creek.
Not so "Stuck -.In The
Middle" roving reporter,
Shelley McPhee spent the
holiday with her parents in
Goderich.
Marian Willson and
husband, Ed, -travelled to
Toronto to spend three days
with their daughter and son-
in-law, Mr. and Mrs. B.N.
Gilmore.
Freda McLeod held
Christmas at her home for
her family and her mother,
Mrs. May McLeod.
And yes - the Gibbs
unearthed the roasting pan
and celebrated their first
Christmas in what has been
dubbed by son, Geoff, "the
little house on ,the prairie."
Come on Geoff, it's not that
isolated.
One `Remembering
Christmas" contribution
arrived too late for last
week's publication so we are
adding it to this column:
"A Christmas that stands
out in my memory is one that
I spent lying on the couch
suffering from mumps, a
horrible; disease at any time
of the year (except that you
can stay home from school).
But being sick at Christmas is
much worse. While I heard
people singing, " `Tis the
season to be jolly" around me
I found it diffucult to even
smile while lying there with a
cold cloth on my forehead and
some multi -coloured pills
staring me in the face.
'"Meanwhile my overly -
considerate brothers were
munching on candy and
peanuts. And I wasn't even
comfortable because my
sister, Nancy, also had. the
mumps and ,was lying op-
posite me so I was forced to
play footsies with her. ,
At least we were in the
living room so we could see
the Christmas tree and hear
the music. I don't remember
too much else about that
Christmas except that Santa
brought me a nice doll and a
doctor's kit, and I've never
been sick at Christmas since.

SEASON'S GREETINGS
BE A + BLOOD DONOR
Stuck in the middle
by Shelley McPhee
Looking over 1977, I would say that this was my year
for changes; in my lifestyle, my thoughts and with my
relationships with others.
My year of changes began early in January when I had
to seriously begin thinking of what I would do after my
graduation from college. After sending some 40 ap-
plications to 'various weekly newspapers, the News -
Record pulled through in the knick of time to offer me
work.
Leaving my college buddies and starting out as a
career woman was another drastic change for me. After
spending 16 years in school with my major monetary
problems being, having enough pocket money or getting
a substantial loan from the government, However, now
I'm faced with the task of paying my loan back, paying
for a car, and worrying about its upkeep (something I
know nothing about), patng for an apartment -,and
assorted other little expenses.
I also became involved in other people's changes,
which in turn affected me.
My parents finally made the decision to sell their farm
and their dairy operation and move into'town. During all
my years at the farm, my main ambition was to move to
town to be near my friends and to get away from those
cows, but now, I must admit that I miss the farm a little
bit.
One of my hest friends, of many years, also made a
change -in my life when she moved to British Columbia.
Saying goodbye to an old friend is not an easy task.
I've faced some pleasant, and not so pleasant changes
over'th'e year, but most importantly I made it through
1977 without any major tragedies occurring.
As for 1978, I'm not sure *hat it will have in store for
me and I can only plan to take the year a day at a time.

Are there any regulations
for the display or carrying of a
permit for a snowmobile?
When the snow vehicle
registered with the Ministry 01
Transportation and Com-
munications a numbered
permit is issued. This
registration number is to be
attached to or painted on both
sides of the cowling in a
clearly visible position. An
adhesive device and
background patch issued by
the Ministry as evidence of the
permit, should also be at-
tached between the
registration number and the
rear of the cowling. It must be
kept free of dirt, snow and ice
in good repair and the view
thereof should not be obscured
or obstructed by any part of
the vehicle. Failure to display
the permit is an offence. Any
violation of the Motorized
Snow Vehicles Act or its
regulations stipulates for a
fine not exceeding $300.00.
