LYLE MONTGOMERY CONSTRUCTION News of the Auburn area SOCIAL NEWS Mr. and Mrs. Jack Snelling, Mr. Donald Snelling and Miss Thelma Snelling of Port Colborne were guests last weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Ajndrew Kirkconnell. Thirty-two..members of the family of Mrs. Lillian Leatherland, Goderich Street, Auburn, held their Christmas dinner in the community Memorial Hall last Sunday. Guests were present from Acton, Clinton, Holmesville, Goderich and the•surrounding community. Guests last Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. George Collins and Jonathan were Mr. and Mrs. James Collins, Lorie and Melissa of Mitchell; Mr. and Mrs. David Collins and Colleen of Walton; Mr. and Mrs. John Stadelmann, Christine, Rhonda and Jennifer of RR2 Blyth and Mrs. Eleanor Bradnock. The sympathy of this community is extended to Mr. and Mrs. Bert Marsh on the death of his sister,. Mrs. Minpie Jones of Dungannon last week. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Cartwright, David, Derrick and Lorie visited last Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. George Reuger and family in London. Donald and David went .on to Chatham and attended a gun - making course for the day. Congratulations to Mrs. Donald Cartwright who received her five-year Leadership Award for 4-H leadership. The community is happy to report that Mrs. Catherine Jackson has returned home after being a patient in Clinton Public Hospital for a few weeks. Miss Dianne Kirkconnell of Edmonton is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Andr"ew K irkconn,ell and attended the celebrations of the 50th wedding anniversary last Saturday. Mrs. Harry Ceislar 'and Si:ra of Goderich visited last week one day withber parents Mr. and Mrs. Harry Arthur. Mr. Ronald Plunkett of Manitoba is home for holidays with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Plunkett, Robbie Paul and Karen. Miss Connie Trommer arrived home last weekend after a three months visit with her brother Bill Trommer and brother Ralph Trommer, Mrs. Trommer and familyi in British Columbia. They sympathy of this community is extended to Mr. and Mrs. R ick- Ferguson of Seaforth whose baby passed away last Thursday. A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all. CHURCH NEWS Knox United'' Church Sunday School 'room .was filled to capacity last Saturday evening when parents and friends gathered for the annual Sunday school concert. Larry Plaetzer was master -of ceremonies. The • Kindergarten class with teacher, Ors. Leonard Archambault, ' sang Be Careful and Happy Birthday Jesus with Mrs. Ross Daer accompanying on the piano. Leone Cunningham and Anita Gross sang, Away in a Manger and We wish you a Merry Christmas with Mrs. Thomas Cunningham ac- companist. Lana and Leslie Lawrence sang I'm a little Dolly and Santa Claus is , coming to town, accompanied by Mrs. Ross Daer. Primary I with their teachers, Mrs. Gerald McDowell and Mrs. Murray Nesbitt bad . a play, the Christmas Helpers. The Intermediate class of Mrs. Peter Verbeek had the Nativity scene of the Birth of Christ. The Junior High- class with teacher, Mrs. James Schneider gave the presen- tation of The Gift. Rev. Earl St. Jean spoke a few words and then Santa ,,,a_rrived with gifts and candy. Carol. singing will begin next Saturday evening, December 24 at 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. with treats being served at the manse until 7:30 p.m. Everyone, adults and children wishing to go carol singing, . please be at Knox United church by'5:45 p.m.. rA.C.W. • The Anglican Church Women of St. Mark's Church met . for their December .,meeting at the. home of Mrs. Thomas Haggitt last Thur- sdaya. afternoon. Mrs. Haggitt presided for the meeting and welcomed everyone. The scripture lesson, St. Luke 1: verses 7-33 was read by Mrs. Thomas Lawlor. The hymn, While .Shepherds Watched Their . Flocks by Night, was sung. The story of the Christmas Tree was read alternately by paragraph. Mrs. Haggitt conducted a Christmas Quiz. The treasurer, Mrs. Thomas Haggitt, gave the financial statement. It was stated that the recent quilt that was done has been sold and more were planned for the new year. A Vote of thanks was extended. to Mr. and Mrs. Donald Cartwright for the use of their recreation room to do the quiltings.
