Guides and Brownies
The Vanastra Guides and
Brownies had their Christ-
mas parties on Thursday and
Monday night.
411 The girls played games,
sang carols, danced, and had
some refreshments.
There will be no meetings
for Guides or Brownies
during the Christmas
holidays.

Resource Centre
The Vanastra Resource
Centre will not be open on
Thursday December 22. The
Centre will resume its
regular activities in January.

In mil' worship service, last
Sunday, we finished our study
of Zechariah's prophecy of
the awn of Salvation, and
saw that prophecy fulfilled in
his son John the Baptist.
The Youth Choir .sang and
Dick Steenstra led'an advent
reading. All :our chtirch
families were present, With
visitors 6.esides, which helped
make our time together a
happy one.

Special carol service at St. James, Middleton

Special Carol Service,,
The sepcial service at St.
James Church began with a
processional hymn sung by
the Central Huron Secondary
School choir under the
direction of Marlene Storey.
The congregation joined in
with the choir to sing carols
and the Two Times Four
Barbershop Double Quartet
favored the congregation
with several songs.
Prayers were said by the
Rector and a letter from the
three bishops was read.
The Rector thanked the
choir and Marlene Storey for
coming to the special service.
He also thanked Don Mid-
dleton, Ray Wise, and
Edward Deeves for putting in
the new windows, and for the
work they did on the furnace
to make the church warmer.
Also, thanks was given to
Stewart t Middleton for his
donation of a fan and motor,
'and to Mrs. Sarah Storey for
playing the Organ and Audrey
Middleton and Blanche
Deeves for decorating the
church, for Christmas. The
service ended in prayer and
the recessional hymn was

On Suaday eV.,eni4i, a near
capacity crowd turned out at
the Church to *hear the
children of Vanastra put on a
very good Christmas
program. Nursery School,
Brownies, Guides, Cubs,
Scouts, Sunday School, and
the Youth Choir were all
represented.
The audience contributed
some spirited carol singing.
Many thanks to the Nursery
School ladies for the excellent
refreshments, to Santa for his
visit and candy canes, and to
the Scouts for the necessary
set-up and clean up work. The
community spirit and co-
operatidn displayed were
outstanding.
Everyone in the community
is urged to celebrate ,the true
gift of Christmas by wor-
shipping the Christ -Child with
us, either Christmas Eve, at,
• 11 p.m. at our Candlelight
Service, or Christmas Day at
11 a.m. Why don't you make it
a family event to worship
with us one of these times?
Also, please note that
Sunday School, which is
usually at 10 a.m„ is can-
celled for Christmas Day.

On December 24, Christ-
mas Eve, the Vigil of the
Nativity will be held at 7:30
prn.4101y Communion will be
observ'ed and also the reading
of the Seven Lessons. On
Christmas Day, church will
be held at Trinith Anglican in
Bayfield at 10 a.m.
A bountiful pot luck supper
was held at the home of
Blanche Deeves. This being
the penny savers dinner,
Delore Dutot's group were
the winners.
The December meeting
followed with Estelle Wise in
charge. She opened the
meeting with the Christmas
reading and a hymn was
sung.
Sarah Storey read the,
Scripture and led in the
Litany after Mrs. Wise read
the Invocation.
Mrs. Wise thanked Mrs.
Deeves for opening her home
which was -decorated for the
season.
Shirley Storey read the
minutes of the last meeting
and Vera Miller presented the
treasurer's report. The social
service report was given by
'Mrs. Deeves. Annual reports
were given by Shirley Storey,
Delores Dutot and Lois
Smith.
Mrs, Wise gave a Christ-
mas reading and then the
ladies played a game,
Knowing your Carols which
Lois Wise won.
Board of Management
Meeting
The Board of Management
at the St. Jame.; Church was
held on Tuesday, December
13 at the home of Edward
Deeves.
Ray Wise opened the
meeting and Mabel Middleton
read the minutes of the last
meeting. Edward Wise
presented the treasurer's
report.
New windows on the church
hall havp heen donated for,thr.
church. A discus.sion was held
on the repair of the heating
system at.the church.
The annual vestry meeting
will be. held on January 19 at 8
p.m. at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Don Middleton. Dean

casion was Ross birthday.
Mr. and Mrs. Nick Den
Boer have had Bob Van Der
Nuet of Holland visiting with
them. While here Bob visited
the Key Wes,t, Florida and
Albany, New _York. Bob left
on December 16 after a very
enjoyable visit with Nick and
Carrie.
Ray and Estelle W St? held
their Christmas family get-
together. on December 18.
Guests were present Bob and
Pat Hodgins of Mississauga
and Marj Keyes of Clinton.
