DECEMBER 22. 1977 the � YFIELDb yMi!vena Erickson, U LiQness club has last meeting The last meeting of the year on December 5 was a fairly short business meeting with Lioness president Ilse Grillmeyer in the chair. Main Street Christmas lights, were discussed and when they should be put up. It was decided that they; would be put up as soon as possible. Since the meeting the lights have been installed and they brighten 'up the business section. On December, 10, the Children's Christmas party was to be held and plans were finalized for that. It has now come. and gone, but the memories of thq films, bags of candy and Santa• Claus himself will linger in the minds of all the children. It was voted to donate sums of money to the Clinton Legion. Pipe Band and the Steve and Ruby Shanahan fund. The telephone committee, Lioness Wynne Graham and Lioness Carolyn Snell, got busy phoning every member for a head count. The dinner was a "roaring" success with over ,100 members and mates attending. Mrs. ,Miller of Seaforth almost surpassed herself with the palate teasing and eye pleasing food she served. It was scrumtiddlyumpyious. The Christmas stocking' draw was made and Mr,, Wilfred Corriveau of Zurich won it. Tables were cleared in • jig -time so that the dancing could begin. Everyone was too full to participate for several numbers so most just listened. The Goodtime Band made up • of Rosemary Taman, Steve . Argyle, and Mr. B. Fansher arrived -to beat out some good,old rhythms which finally got a few hardy souls onto the floor. All in all it was a most enjoyable evening. December 19 • 'saw the Lioness members bringing "homemade cookies to package for the shut-ins so Santa Claus can deliver them on Christmas Eve. The first meeting of 1978 will be on January 2 with a regular dinner meeting. A Dutch auction lit() be held, so all you gals bring a little 'something or other, well wrapped and costing about $1. It was -not a decision made by the board, but access may be had by contacting. the Rector, Rev. William M. Bennett; presidents of the Ladies Guild, ACW or Chancel Guild or, members of the Board. The board also set Monday evening, January 16 for the Vestr.y meeting. It will take the form of a pot -luck supper at 6 pm with the presidents mt thewomen's , organizations co-ordinating the meal. Rev. Bennett reported that the new choir robes had been ordered and he was hoping they would arrive in time for the Christmas Services. A letter was received from Mrs. Doris Hunter, president of the Local Architectural Conservancy Advisory Committee, asking the 3oard to consider the Church being designated as an. Heritage building. GRAHAM'S GENERAL STORE , BAYFIELD during the skit Round about the village The children of St, Andrew's United Church Sunday School along with their teachers were treated to a ride in Tom Penhales wagon pulled by a pair of beautiful Belgians as part of their Sunday School party on Sat. afternoon. They also viewed three films courtesy of Huron County Library and shown by John Siertsema. The children played games while waiting their turn for their ride. Santa arrived and handed out candy and gifts and a real tasty lunch was enjoyed. Mr. and Mrs. Don Haw, Ann, Cathy and Bradley and his mother, Mrs. Nina Haw spent Sunday with her daughter and family, Mr, and Mrs. Doug Deller, Kerry and Scott, and enjoyed a pre - Christmas family dinner together. y„ Mr. anclrs. Ron Diemert, Karen and Briant, St. Marys visited Sunday with his family, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Diemert, Wayne and Rick. . Mr. and Mrs. Rob Irwin and Robbie London, spent Sunday with his family, Mr. and Mrs. E:W. Erickson, Andrew; Luanne and Lydia. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Heard, Stratford visited Saturday with Mrs. Nina Haw. Miss Sally Bennett, London spent the weekend with her parents, Rev. William and Mrs. Bennett. Congratulations to JoAnne Sturgeon and Freda Hill, Bayfield I 4-H Club and Karen Erb, Bayfield II, 4-H Club who received their County Honors in Clinton on Satur- day. All three girls have United Church The third Advent Candle was lit by Gail Dunn in St. Andrew's United Church on Sunday morning. Rev. Reddoch was in charge of the service, and 'the congregation were ' very pleased • to have Mrs. Reddoch back after her lengthy stay indoors and following surgery. Sunday evening saw a good turnout of church members and lguests from • the other churches at their Candlelight Turn to page 1 1 • completed six projects. Mr, and Mrs. Ab. Henteges were weekend guests with their daughter and family, Mrs. and Mrs. Larry Fisher and boys for a pre -Christmas dinner on Sunday. They were joined for supper by Mr. and Mrs. Allan Yates and family of London and Mr. and Mrs. Doug Sinnamon and family. Afterwards all attended the Candlelight Carol Service in St. Andrew's United Church. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Coleman and family, Walkerton; Mr. and Mrs. George Coleman and family, Willowdale; Mr. and Mrs. Jack Coleman and Family, R R 1, Zurich joined their mother, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Baker for a pre -Christmas family dinner together on Saturday. Bankiing hours in Bayfield for Christmas week will be Wednesday, December , 28 from 10 to 12 and 1 to 3; Thursday same as Monday;. and Friday, the same plus 4:30 to 5:30.
