Federated WI meets
in Toronto
The annual meeting of the
Federated Women's
Institutes of Ontario (FWIO)
met in the Lord Simtoe hotel,
Toronto from December 5th -
9th. The president, Mrs. Herb
Maluske, Chesley welcomed
32 senior and two WTI for board
directors. "It is the effect of
every blade or 'grass that
makes the m4dow green".
Every branc member is a
most impor nt link in the
total organi •ation.
Silver J4 ilee medals were
presented/ recently to past
presider>ilt, Mrs. Harvey
Noblitt,,, Ottawa and the
president, Mrs. Maluske, and
each'1vera given an engraved
certi iicate in honor of the
Que en's Silver Jubilee.
Miss Molly McGhee,
director of. the home
(conomics branch of the
ministry of agriculture and
food, said the county home
economists are being asked to
speak at many meetings, but
80 percent of their time is
devoted to the 4-H programs.
A $1 million worth of help is
given by WI members all
over Ontario in their
volunteer leadership of the 4 -
and senior leaders training
courses. Mrs. Harvey
Houston, the PEO stated the
Women's Institute is truly an
Education organization, as
over $126,500 was spent for
those purposes. Many local
and community projects
benefit from generosity in
excess of $180,000. Mrs.
Houston completes a six-year
term and her successor is
Mrs. John Brown, Washago.
The Erland Lee Horne
report by Mrs. Austin Zoeller,
New Hamburg, stated that
1,416 people visited the Home
during WI week June 6 - 10th.
The FWIO own this historic
place situated at Stoney
Creek.
Mrs. Maluske attended the
15th Triennial Conference of
Associated Countrywomen of
the World in Nairobi, Kenyaa,
Africa with the theme being
"Building for Tomorrow".
The general assembly of the
United
Nations has
proclaimed .�._....-...-,-..,.1979 as Inter-
national Year of the Child.
The `objective to, make the
,world realize the child as its
most precious resource. The
next Conference to be held in
the Federal Republic of
Germany.
Mrs. R.C. Walker, St.
George, who has been FWIO .
Tweedsmuir 'History Curator
for 23 years, reported there
are 1,300 copies of Historical
Books in Ontario. She visited
all the Districts in the
province in 1957-58. She was
also responsible for in-
troducing, 15 years ago, the
compilation of House Logs.
Mrs. Walker was presented
with a Life Membership In
FWIO.
Mrs. Russell Campbell,
Iona Station, stated the 30th
Officer's Conference will be
held at the University of
Waterloo, May 2, 3, 4, 1978,
Mrs. Beilish, FWIC president
will pay her official visit to
-Qn-tario. The conference will
be for treasurers and
secretaries.

potentials of the W.I. Hall
situated on this location.
On Thursday evening, the
board of directors were en-
tertained to dinner at the
Royal York by the Hon. W.G.
Newman. This evening of
fellowship, with the ministry
of agriculture and Food staff
and other guests was much
enjoyed.
The meeting adjourned
Friday, with the president
presenting this challenge:
"The fields ahead abound
.with opportunities to be
grasped, emergencies to he
met, tasks to be done and
duties to be accepted. May we
always be helped to use what
we have learned from our
mistakes to build a stronger,
better foundation for the
future."

The Kippen East Women's
Institute held their Christmas
meeting on Dec. 14 at the
home of Mrs. Charles Eyre in
Egmondville. Mrs. Alex
McGregor gave the motto and
Mrs. John Morgan, Exeter
spoke on Ceramics.
Social Notes
Mr.. Byron Brown, Toronto,
visited with Mr. and Mrs.
Elgar Mousseau during the
past week.
Mrs: Ruth Dickert,
Harriston, is visiting with her
sister, Mrs. Norman Dickert.
Miss Jill McLellan is
holidaying in Hawaii.
A Christmas concert , was
held in St. Andrew's Church
Kippen on Saturday Dec. 3.
The children were treated to
a puppet show.

nendyke . are hoii: dying in
Hawaii.
Congratulations to Mrs.
Wm. Coleman, a winner on
the football pool.
Achievement Day for 4-H
Clubs was held in Seaforth.
Carol McGregor, and Linda
Roberts got their county
honours, and Shirley
Chalmers won her Provincial
Honours. There were ap-
proximately 40 girls taking
the club "Featuring Fruit"
sponsored by Kippen East W.
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Jones
wisited with Mr. and Mrs.
Wilfred Huxtable, Centralia.
