The Goderich Signal -Star
informed its readers this
week that 10 merchants in
that town will be sponsoring a
free New Year's Eve Taxi
service.
The service which is
designed to keep drinking
drivers off the roads will be
operated from 9 p.m. on
December 31, 1977 until
January 31, 1978 at 3 a,m.
The service, which also ran
last year, was used by over
100 people and not one ac-
cident was reported in
Goderich during the evening.
The Bluewater Taxi will be
offering their manpower and
cars for the evening.
An editorial in The Huron
Expositor, gave praise and
publicity to a unique money
raiser in the town which is
currently being held.
The fund raising campaign
which will largely be used for
the arena is being sponsored -
by the Seaforth Lions Club.
The campaign has been
running for the past year and
it involves the donation of
pennies. It is expected that
the total will reach $5,000 and
an added attraction is that
every penny will be matched
by at least one Wintario
penny.
Meanwhile in Lucknow, a
club has been actively ser-
vicing the community.
The Lucknow Sentinel
reported that the Legion
Branch 309 have made a $200
donation to the Lucknow
Concert Band. The Lucknow
Lancer Intermediate hockey
team also received a donation
and sweaters were purchased
for the juvenile team:
Also the siding on the
Legion Hall is nearly com-
pleted. ,
The Kincardine police force
is still front page news in The
Kincardine News. This week
the News told that a report
was read in the last council
meeting which stated that
'Chief William Sweedlandwas
making an attempt to meet
the recommendations given
to him by' council and the
Ontario Police Commission.
Mayor Harvey Palmateer
was also reported as saying
that he had been misquoted
by the press and that he
realized that he had been
misled from some members
of the police force in the past,
causing serious misun-
derstandings between the
chief and himself.
The report sent by the OPC
stated that too much in-
formation was given to the
press, thus causing more
problems.
The report concluded with
the point that the things were
running smoothly in the
police force but the OPC
would keep in contact with
the force.
The Listowel Banner
reported this week that the
Listowel Town Council is still
supporting a county library
system for Perth. However,
they are not convinced that a
union system for the nine
municipalities of the county
would be a good idea.
They received a letter from
the Perth County Council
stating that because of the
small population within the
municipalities, less . than
25,000, approval for the
county -wide system would
not likely be approved by the
ministry.
Therefore, the county
suggested that each
municipality could join their
library services together to
form a union.
However, the Listowel
council felt that if library
services were given in Perth,
they should be -under a county
system, or nothing at all.
ARC Industries in Dash- '
wood is starting a new
training plan for handicappd

will be opening a bake shop as
part - of its occupational
training in Dashwood.
Dan Knight, who -worked as
a baker with the Children's
psychiatric •Research
Institute in London for 12
years and also operated the
Tasty Nu Bakery in Zurich
for three years, approached
the Dashwood company last
summer with the suggestion
that a bakeshop be opened.
The bakery .will emphasize
cream pies along with French
anjl Danish pastries and
birthday and anniversary
'cakes.
