Auxiliary member on provincial bd.
The Clinton Women's
Hospital Auxiliary learned at
their business meeting on
December 5 that Mrs. Peggy
Menzies was appointed as one
oi;the three vice presidents of
'the Provincial Association.
Mrs. Donna Westlake gave
this news when she reported
on the provincial conference
which was held in Toronto
recently.
In other business, the
minutes of the previous
meeting were read by the
secretary, Mrs. B. Olde and
were approved. The financial
report read by Miss Kathleen
Elliott showed a balance of
$917..13
A letter was read from
Beecher Menzies, Chairman
of the Hospital Board of
Governors, thanking the
auxiliary for the new x-ray
machine recently installed.
An interesting letter from
Rosemary Armstrong was
read, telling about some of
the facts on the new Daycare
Centre at Huronview.
Mrs. Barbara Hicks gave
her report of the capping
ceremonies held at the
Wesley -Willis Church, It was
a lovely affair, well planned
and carried out and most
gratifying to Mrs. Hicks
whose hard work has made it
all possible. The candy
stripers are to be commended
too, for their loyalty and
industry.
Some discussion took place
regarding Christmas gifts for
patients and staff. The matter
was left in the hands of the
buying committee.
The president, Mrs.
Coventry asked for written
reports to be handed in by all
convenors at the January
meeting which will be held on
Monday, January 9 at 10 a.m•
in the hospital board room.
Mrs. D. Ball reported that
the Wesley -Willis UCW will
be in charge of the hospital
cart for January and Mrs.
Stodden asked for more
knitters and announced that
cart stockers for January
would be Mrs. K. Wood and
Mrs. B. Menzies in February.
Mrs. H. Ball gave a full and
comprehensive report of the
plan of her membership
committee which involved
some changes of interest such
as a newsletter of the
auxiliary's work and plans
along with a slight raise in the
membersip fee. This was
approved by the members
and left in the hands of Mrs.
Ball and her committee to
carry out.
The members then spent
the remainder of the af-
ternoon decorating the
church hall and solariums
with Christmas ornaments.
County library bd. sets budget
At the last Huron County
Library Board ' meeting
December 7, the Library
Board approved the 1978
budget of $383,550. The
Library Board is asking
Huron County Council for a
,grant of $262,822. or $4.69 per
capita for support of the
library to meet the budget.
The Library Board
'operates through 28 outlets
with a staff of 35 - 40 people,
many of them being part-
time. As well as an, increase
of salaries, the Library Board
is concerned about the in-
crease of the price of books.
In 1978, $100,000, has been
allocated for books and
precessing. This year they
are also faced with an in-
crease due to the drop in
Canadian exchange rates as
well as an increase in book
production. The cost of
magazines and publications
have shown a marked in-
crease over last year. For-
tunately for the board this
year, many of the Canadian
magazines and newspapers
were paid out of Huron
County Library's $7,000
Wintario grant.
Although there has been ah
increase of $18,900 over the
News of Huronview
Dr. C. 'E. Toll of Seaforth
arranged a Christmas
program on Sunday afternoon
in the auditorium at
Huronview.
The program featured the
Seaforth and Dashwood
Community Band with step
dance numbers by the Little
Macks, Martha Cook, Andria
Muir, Chelene Glanville,
KAlly Nicholson, students of
Lyle Storey.
Angela Andresia en-
tertained with Scottish
dancing and there were vocal
numbers by Valerie and
Shelley Wassman.
Nelson Howe played the
violin as accompaniment for
the dancers and Mrs. Elsie
Henderson accompanied, the
carol sing led by Harry
Hoffman.
Mrs. Hattie Burton thanked
the entertainers on behalf of
the Huronview residents,
Mrs. Elsie Henderson
arranged and accompanied a
musical program on Family
Night at Huronview. The
residents provided the talent
for the program, assisted by
two staff members and a
volunteer.
There were vocal solos and
duets by Chester Archibald,
Wayne Lester, Mrs. Alton,
Mrs. Luella Cox, Mrs.
,Henderson, Nelson Lear and
Cecil Skinner.
A pantomime was per-
formed by Ben Sowerby and
Chester Mawhinney. Old
Tyme waltzes were played by
Elsie Henderson, Norman
Speir, Cecil Skinner and
Jerry- Collins and danced by
six members of Mrs. Hen-
derson's family.
•-.- Mrs. Pearson expressed the
appreciation of the Huron -
view residents for the lovely
music and entertainment.
The Over -Ninety Club of
Huronview met on Wed-
nesday afternoon and were
entertained by the Huronview
Orchestra. Two members of

only to keep up with present
operations.
The Library supplies a wide
variety of services and
programs. To date 17,596 or 31
percent of the county
population are registered as
borrowers. As well as book
materials, the library has
film service, children's
programs, talking books and
shut-in service.
Next year $10,000 is to be
transferred from the
executive budget to Huron
County Library budget for #a
history project. The money
will be used to continue
microfilming of early Huron
County newspapers. To date"
the library has begun

Forbes gave a poem on
Christmas blessings.
The worship service was
taken by Mrs. Feagan, Mrs.
Crich and Mrs. Merrill. Bible
readings, prayers,
meditation and hymns were
on the Christmas theme. Mrs.
Heard whistled the hymn
"Joy to the World".
The mission study is on
Caribbean so they were
greatly favoured by a talk
and pictures by Mrs. Wood of
Goderich. She and her
husband did missionary work
in Trinidad a few years. ago.
Mrs. Potterread a story on
Haiti.
Thank=you cards from Mrs.
Ida Martin, the Ball family
and the Board of Stewards
were received as was a
special Christmas greeting
from a former member, Mrs..
Wildfong, now of Beamsvilie.
The nomination committee
gave their report and lunch
was served by the April
group.
The nomination com-
mittee's results were: leader,

Feagan; , SCCT, Mrs. Batkin;
ass't. Miss K. Elliott; treas.,
Mrs. 1VIcGregor; ass't. Mrs.
McMurray.
The shut-in boxes are to be
packed December 16th and
the next meeting will be
January 3 at 12:30, ,beginning
with a pot luck luncheon.
Omega Sorority
welcomes
members
The Zeta Omega Chapter of
the Beta Sigma Phi met on
December 6 at the home of
Michele Hansen in Goderich,
with seven members present.
The two sorority chapters
have donated funds to pur-
chase a turkey for the
Christmas dinner at the
Huronview Daycare Unit for
the homebound.
The ladies also watched a
film on environment and
discussed the problems and
solutions.
Four new • members took
the Pledge Ritaul in a can -
delight ceremony.

Epsilon sorority to sell flowers for fund
-Xi Epsilon Beta Chapter of
Beta Sigma Phi held its
December 6th meeting at the
home of Linda Meade.
Vivienne Roy reported for
the service committee about
the sale of daffodils for. the
Cancer Society to take place
in April. The price and
method of 'selling was,
discussed.
Marj Dobson reported
that the Dare Care Unit for
the Homebound at Huronview
had contacted her regarding
their planned Christmas
Golden Radars hearof
trip along U.S. coast
The Golden Radar Senior
Citizens Club met for its
regular meeting at the Town
Hall December 7, when
president Marg Grigg con-
ducted the business session.

nations sent to Reta Wright,
Percy Gibbings and May
Gibson, a sympathy card to
Elda Stephens and a get well
card to Mrs. • Earl Lawson in
Wingham Hospital.
The visiting committee of
Mr. and Mrs. Watt Webster,
Mr. and Mrs. Percy Gibbings
and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Johns
had been quite active in
making calls on sick and shut-
ins in Hospital and Huron -
view and in their homes.
Minlue Rumball reported a
very successful ticket sales
for the quilt raffle and asked
that all ticket money be
handed in as soon as possible
as the draw takes place at the
Christmas Banquet ,at the
Legion Hall December 14.
Special speaker for the
Banquet will be Rev. Stan
McDonald of Londesboro.
George and Minlue
Rumball, Alice Lawson and
Esther Kendall were in
charge of en ter.ta.i.nm.en.tir._
George gave a very in-
teresting talk on a six-day bus
trip which he, his wife
Minlue, Mary Grigg and
Ceacilia Edgar took to
Newport, Rhode Island,
leaving on,November 7. Since
Newport is on the eastern
USA sea coast, it is steeped in
history and they saw many
very old, very costly arid very
beautiful buildings and
homes. They also visited
some historical places in
Boston.
Progressive euchre was
played, prize winners being
Mary Grigg and Gladys
Hoggarth. Lunch was served
by the committee, ending a
pleasant evening,
dinner for homebound people.
As a result, the two Sorority
chapters will jointly donate
money for a turkey.
An interesting cultural
program presented by
Vivienne Roy followed the
business meeting. Vivienne
read a biography of Isadore
Duncan telling of her tragic
life as well as her con-
tributions to the art of dan-
cing. A lively discussion then
followed.
A candlelight ceremony
took place after the program
at which time Marilyn James
received the Exemplar
Degree.
The next meeting to be held
at -Diane Boyes' home
December 20,, is the Christ-
mas party and members
were' re hitpded' to -bring their
Secret Sister's gift.
