UNICEF
This year the students once
again took boxes at
Hallowe'en to collect ,for
UNICEF. Through - their
efforts $161.50 was collected.
This amount along with the
$38.52 realized from the bake
sale enabled the Student
Council to send $200.02 ' to
UNICEF, This was almost
twice as much as was sent
last year.
Student Council
On Monday, October 31,
members of the Student
Council in grades 7-8,
Margaret Dupee, Paul
Gautreau, Tony Dykstra,
Rodney Merner, Cheryl
Armstrong and Jeff
Gautreau, went to St.
Columban school.
Earlier, Mrs. Frances
Craig, formerly a teacher at
this school, had requested
that our'students come to St.
Columban to explain to their
grade 7-8 the purpose of a
Student Council, how it was
elected, 'and how it could
function smoothly.
Margaret Dupee, Student
Council president, began by
explaining the Student
Council's role in our school -

tation, our students were
questioned regarding many
different details about the
Student Council.
We have since been in-
formed by Mrs. Craig that a
Student Council has now been
formed at St. Columban. We
hope that we were of some
help to them in getting
started.
Parents' Meeting
On November 8, an in-
formation meeting was held
for all parents whose children
were to receive First Com-
munion, First Confession and
Confirmation this year. The
program for each of the
above sacraments was
explained by the teacher
involved. An example of an
audio-visual that could be,
used with the children in the
prograM was shown.
Father Hardy explained his
role, the parents' role and
answered many questions.
After the meeting, many
parents stayed for coffee
continuing the discussion on
an informal basis. The
meeting was successful and
well -attended.
Physical Education
Again this year, the grades
5 to 8 will use the. Vanastra
gymnasium for' physical
education. The first class was
held on Friday, November 25.
These classes will be held
every Friday morning and
one of the activities up to
Christmas will include floor
hockey.
To help protect the gym
floor, it is necessary that each
student wear dry . running
shoes.
Remembrance Day
On November 10, the
Student Council led our
school's Remembrance Day
program. In the program, the
students prayed , for peace.
remembered the war
veterans, and viewed a film
"The Canadians are,Coming"
lent to us by the Legion. Each
classroom made a wreath
and these were brought to the
front of the assembly during
the ceremony.
On November 11, Denise
Corbett and Suanne Smith
represented the school and
laid our wreath at the
Cenotaph at Clinton's
ceremonies.

In spite of the weather
conditions with snow and
more snow, the Legion was
again filled with merriment,
as last Saturday witnessed
both the lower and upper
lounges a beehive of ac-
tivities.
In the lower lounge, the
Clinton
were treatedLegion to a scrumptiouPipeBands
turkey dinner, served by our
Ladies' Auxiliary. They were
also treated with wine by
wine host Comrade Bill
Chambers, compliments of
the Ladies' Auxiliary.
• In the upper lounge,, the
Clinton Hospital Staff had
their annual Christmas
festivities, with the Ladies'
Auxiliary also catering with a
delicious turkey dinner, with
wine provided by the doctors'
staff. The table, were kept
supplied with the various
types of wine by wine host
Milt Schrieber.
Following the dinner,
delightfully entertaining staff
members performed various
Christmas stories with a twist
to fantasy and humour, en-
joyed by all present. Our
thanks to Mary and Percy
Brown and Russ Phillips for
donating their time in

ladies.
Another highlight last week
was the celebration of the
45th Anniversary of the
Ladies' Auxiliary. The men
did themselves proud by
serving the ladies a delicious
roast pork dinner with all the
trimmings. Fifty members of
the Ladies' Auxiliary were
present and the evening was a
tremendous success.
Comrade Bill Chambers
