As well , a b day cake was cut by life members Grace Lawson, left, Luella Leppington and Margaret Thorndike. Luella is also one of the original character members when the Auxiliary was formed on November 27, 1932. (News -Record photo) Hensall WMS hold Xmas meeting By Bertha MacGregor WMS hold Christmas meeting The WMS of Carmel Presbyterian Church held their Christmas meeting on Thursday afternoon with president Mrs. Harvey Hyde opening the meeting with "Thoughts On Christmas". Mrs. Clarence Volland was in charge of the Christmas devotional, assisted by Mrs. Agnes Madge who read the scripture. Mrs. Malcom ' Dougall played a piano in- strumental "The Bells of St. Marys". Mrs. John Soldan presented the slate of the officers and they were installed by Mrs.. Alex MacGregor as follows president, Mrs. Harvey Hyde; vice president, Mrs. John Soldan; secretary, Mrs. Bert Thompson; ass't secretary, Mrs. Rochus Faber; treasurer, Mrs. Percy Campbell; glad tidings secretary, Mrs. Percy Campbell'; friendship, social and literature, Mrs. Earl Campbell; supply secretary, 'Mrs. Edith Bell; associate members, Mrs. Ed Munn; Queensway representative, Mr's. Rochus Faber; cradle roll secretary, Mrs. Clarence Volland; stamp collector, Mrs. Rachel Schwalm; pianist, Mrs. Malcom Dougall. The next meeting will be held January 9 at 2 pm. The Ladies' Aid meeting followed with the following officers: president, Mrs. Clarence Volland; vice president, Mrs. Malcom Dougall; secretary, Mrs. Edith Bell; treasurer, Mrs. Harvey Hyde; group leaders,Mrs. Esther Wright, Mrs. Percy Campbell, and Mrs. Malcolm Dougall. A Christmas lunch was served following the meeting and a social hour enjoyed by all. Rebekahs hold. Christmas party Noble Grand Mrs. Maggie Campbell presided for the meeting of Amber Rebekah Lodge last Wednesday evening, assisted by Mrs. Aldeen Volland R.S.V.G. Mrs. Margaret Consitt reported the proceeds of the C.P.T. Euchre, and Mrs. Bertha MacGregor reported the proceeds of the Bake Sale, while Mrs. Maggie Campbell reported for the visiting committee. "The United Nations Pilgrimage for Youth" meeting was held in Clinton Lodge on Wednesday Dec. 14 at 8 p.m. Several "Thank You" notes were read in- cluding one from the Canadian National Institute for the Blind. Arrangements were made to hold the "Secret Pal" night on January 4. Following the meeting, the -members gathered • around the Christmas tree, singing Carols led by Mrs. Ruby Bell and Mrs. Isobel Rogerson accompanying at the piano. Mrs. Elizabeth R i'ley favoured with a reading, Christmas Season . Contests were directed by Mrs. Isobel Rogerson. An exchange of gifts was followed by a social hour and lunch in the lower hall. Ladies' Legion hold party The Hensall Ladies' Legion Auxiliary held their Christmas meeting on .., Tuesday evening with the president Mrs. Beatrice Uyl presiding. The "money doll" draw will be made on December 24, and plants and treats will be given to the shut-in members at Christ- mas. Mrs. Mona Campbell won the mystery prize; Mrs. Beatrice Uyl won the at- •,tendance prize; and Mrs. Donna'Allan won the guessing prize. The members exhanged Christmas gifts and a socialhour enjoyed when refreshments were served. • Queensway news Visitors during the past weeks with Irene Kalbfleisch were Mrs. Violet Bishop, Joan Betteridge. Edna Simmons visited her mother, Mrs. Sarah Arthur; and Bea Dykstra visited Aleeta Kats. Church service was con- ducted during the past two weeks by Mrs. Shirley Luther assisted by Nan Britton and Rev. Bishop with Louise Mitchell at the piano. The Anglican Church Ladies' entertained with' Christmas Music and Bingo. • Social notes Mr. and Mrs. William MacKinnon of Byron were guests on Sunday with the former's mother, Mrs. Janet MacKinnon. Children's party The Legion and Ladies' Auxiliary entertained the children on Sunday afternoon when they enjoyed films after which Santa -Claus arrived and distributed treats and gifts to all. -There was a good attendance. Mr. Hamel owns and operates a dairy farm in Bruce County and has been active in farm and co- operative organizations for some years. Russell McCutcheon of Owen Sound was re-elecred as a director and as first vice- president. Robert Turner of Owen Sound was re-elected as a director and as second vice- president. Elected to the board in December were Edwin Miller of Exeter and John Stafford of Wroxeter. - The remaining directors are: Howard Wilson of Owen Sound; John Campbell of Bayfield; David Ireland of Teeswater and Mel Proud of Tara. At the annual meeting which preceded the election, President Walter Hamel said that the year under review had its problems, its challenges and its successes. Sharply reduced milk volume necessitated cur- tailment of operations in the milk plants. However, net earnings permitted payment of a cash patronage dividend of 10 cents per hundredweight on 93.6 per cent of members' milk and three cents per pound butterfat on members' farm -separated cream. Mr. Hamel said it was impossible for the co- operative to generate ear- nings in the egg grading business and that the directors had decided to accept an offer to purchase the egg grading stations at. Seaforth and Strathroy. He said that this was a very difficult decision for the directors to make but vertical integration in the egg in- dustry ruled out successful operations in only grading and packing.
