To cost $226,000
Community board wants
to build arena in village
Members of the Com-
munity Centre Board met
Wednesday- evening in the
Municipal Building and
learned that a new arena of
approximately the same size
'as exists now, new well,
septic tank system,
washrooms, locker rooms,
enlarged community centre
area and new kitchen would
cost approximately $226,000.
The meeting decided to
:wild a new structure rather
than repair the existing one,
as the cost of repair was
$2,000 more than to rebuild.
The information received
from Kleinfeldt engineering
firm of London also contained
figures and arenas that had
collapsed during the past few
years, leading to the in-
spection of all arenas in
Ontario: June 1959, three
killed and four injured in the
collapse of the Brittania
Curling Club; Listowel
Arena, February 1959, eight
killed, 13 injured; Rayside
Arena (Azilda), March 1970,
no injury; Lakefield Arena,
February 1971, no injury ;
Bell Arena (Nepean) (par-
tial), March 1972, no injury;
Richmond Arena (partial),
January 1973; no injury;
Windsor,,, Curling Club, April,
1974, eight killed; Burlington
Curling Club (partial) March
1976, no injury.
The meeting also set
Thursday, December 15
(tonight) at 8 p.m. for a
public meeting' in the Com-
munity Centre to hear the
engineer's report. All those
interested are invited to
attend.
