Everybody is welcome. There were nine tables in play last week. Mr. and Mrs. Ben Hamilton visited last weekend with their son John in Toronto. Mr. and Mrs. Elliott Lapp spent the American Thanksgiving with her sister, Mrs. Robert Templar and Mr. Templar at Rochester, New York. On their way home they visited relatives in Port Credit, Brampton and Kip - pen. Congratulations to Dr. and Mrs. Harry Ceislar (Judy Arthur) of Goderich on the arrival of their baby daughter on Sunday November 27 in Victoria hospital, London. U.C.W. Unit One of the Knox United Church Women held their November meeting in the Sunday school room of the church with Mrs. Stanley Ball in charge. She was assisted by Mrs. Randy Machan. Mrs. John Durnin, the leader took over the business and the minutes were ac- ' cepted as read by the secretary Mrs. Lawrence Plaetzer. Plans were made for the December meeting when there will be an ex- change of gifts. Mrs. Durnin closed with prayer. Tarts and coffee were served by Mrs. Ball and Mrs. Machan. The general meeting of the Auburn United Church Women was held on Wed- nesday November 23 at 8 p.m. in the Sunday school room of the church. Mrs. Gerald McDowell presided for the worship period and Mrs. Donald Haines was pianist. The hymn, Tell Me the Stories of Jesus ' was sung and the scripture lesson, Mark 10: Verses 13 to 16 and prayer was taken by Mrs. Gerald McDowell. Mrs. John Durnin presented an introduction t to the film on Pueblito, which was shown by the Rev. Earl St. Jean. The Auburn U.C.W. are spon- soring a child at Pueblito. Mrs. Kenneth McDougall presented the new slate of officers for 1978-1979 and Rev. Earl St. Jean held the in- stallation service. , The financial statement was given by Mrs. Oliver _,._Anderson and accepted by the members. Yearly reports were -given by the various conveners and Unit leaders. A White Gift donation was given to the Huron County Children's Aid Society. Two bales were forwarded to London and UNICEF for distribution to needy areas. These consisted of 23 boxes of used clothing, three quilts, layette, children's clothing, afghans and soap. The new unit members were drawn for 1978-79. Plans were made for a Christmas Pot Luck dinner at noon on December 14. Members are to invite a guest. Unit one isto provide first course and Unit two, the desserts. The following is the new list of officers that were in- stalled: honorary president, Mrs. Earl St. Jean; past president, Mrs. Ernest Durnin; president, Mrs. Donald Haines; first vice- president, Mrs. Peter Ver- beek; second vice-president, Mrs. , Maurice Bean; secretary, Mrs. Thomas Jardin; treasurer, Mrs. Oliver Anderson; assistant secretary, Mrs. Beth Lan- sing; 'communications co- ordinator, Mrs. Elliott Lapp; stewardship, Mrs. Arnold Cook; leadership develop- ment, Mrs. Gerald McDowell; Church in Society, Mrs. Dorothy Grange; World Outreach and Supply, Mrs. Ernest Durnin, Mrs. John iDnrnin and Mrs. Donald Haines; representative to rrnse committee, Mrs. Kenneth McDougall; representative to Board of Stewards, Mrs. John Arm- strong; kitchen, Mrs. Beth Lansing, Mrs. Orval McPhee and Mrs. Oliver Anderson; nominating. commat1iee, Mrs. Maurice Bean and Mrs. Gerald McDowell; and auditors, Mrs. Stanley Ball and Mrs...Norman McDowell. The meeting was closed with the mizpah benediction. Unit One ladies served lunch and a sociaj hour was en- joyed. SOCIAL NEWS Mrs. and Mrs. Clare Longhurst of Bracebridge recently visited with Mr. and Mrs. Frank Raithby. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Henry of Clawson, Michigan and Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Levi of Kingsville visited last week with the former's sister, Mrs. Elsie Scott and also with Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Johnston, Mrs. Bonnie Armour and daughter Julie of Waterloo visited on the weekend with' her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Jardin and grand- mother, Mrs. Elva Straughan. The .community is pleased to report that Randy Machan has returned home after surgery in Alexandra Marine and General Hospital, Goderich. Mrs. Ronald Livermore and Phillip of Fordwich visited last Thursday with her mother, Mrs. Donald Haines. Mr. and Mrs. Mark Arthur spent the weekend in London and visited their son Mark who is a patient in .._Sick Children's Hospital, London. Mrs. Mary Rollinson is a patient in Clinton Public Hospital. She is wished a speedy recovery. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Haines of Niagara Falls were visitors recently for the weekend with his parents Mr. and Mrs. Donald Haines. Mr. Donald Cartwright attended the Ontario Muzzle - Loading Association at Toronto last weekend. A.C.W. The Anglican Church Women of St. Mark's Church met last Wednesday at the home of Mrs. Donald Cart- wright. Mrs. Cartwright presided for the meeting which was opened with the hymn, The Lord is My Shepherd.. Rev. Dan Sagent accompanied on the guitar. The devotional was taken from the Living Message and Mrs. Cartwright read the scripture lesson. Mrs. John Daer led in prayers and the meditation was taken by Mrs. Robert Slater. Another chapter in the book, How to be a Christian Without Being Religious, was taken by Mrs. Slater assisted by Mrs. Cartwright. A 'discussion followed and the hymn, In the Garden, was sung. President Mrs. Robert Slater opened the business period and the minutes of the October meeting were ac- cepted as read by the secretary Mrs. John Daer. The treasurer Mrs. Thomas• Haggitt gave the financial statement. A discussion was held and the bale is going to ge sent to St. Monica House, Waterloo and also another one to Northern Ontario. The Day of Prayer service was discussed and more plans made for next spring. The travelling apron received a free-will offering and the roll call was an- swered by a Bible verse from the Book of Corinthians. Plans were made to hold the next meeting on Dec. 15 at the home of Mrs. Thomas Haggitt. It was announced that a quilt'will be put in this week. Lunch was served by Mrs. Cartwright assisted by Mrs. Thomas Haggitt. LIONS CLUB The music of Don Messer filled the Auburn Community Memorial Hall last Monday evening when the Auburn and District Lions Club put on the movie of Don Messer and his Jubilee tour of Canada. Don Haines operated the projector. It was too bad only about 35 persons were present. Maybe when the next film night comes along, there will be a better attendance. CHURCH NEWS The Sacrament. of Holy Baptist'n was observed in St. Mark's Anglican Church for Martin Maurice Lawrence, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Lawrence by the rector Rev. Dan Sargent. The godparents were Mr. and Mrs. Rick Ferguson of Seaforth. Relatives attending the service were Mr, and Mrs. Bert Daer, Blyth, Mrs. Ed Daer, Terry and Patricial of Wingham, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Lawrence Sr. and family of Mitchell. The flowers in the church were placed in memory of the late Mrs. Eliza Stewart by her daughters, Miss Ltiliah Stewart and Mrs. Marian Sproul. Following the service, Mrs. and Mrs. Fred Lawrence, Lana and Leslie and Marty entertained their relatives at their home on Goderich Street. A Junior choir sang He's Got the Whole World in His Hands. Mrs. Fred Lawrence was organist. HORICULTURAL SOCIETY Christmas wreaths, holly and 'candles decorated the Auburn Community 1Vlem;prial Hall for the annual Family Night sponsored by the. Auburn Horiculturai Society. The Aubukck Women's Institute were the guests. The smorgasbord dinner was bountiful and the 85 persons present enjoyed the meal. President Mrs. Dorothy Grange welcomed all and God Save The Queen was sung and the Grace. Newcomers of the com- munity were introduced and Mr. Oliver Anderson led in a sing -song, Mrs. Greg Park was pianist. Lana and Leslie Lawrence sang a duet, You are My Sunshine and Lana sang a solo, He's Got the Whole World in His Hands, ac- companied by Mrs. Donald Haines. ..1 Maybe The Don't Make Them Anymore was the entertaining reading given by Doug Glousher. Piano solos were played by Carla and Monica Hebert. Colourful pictures of~ countries in Europe were shown by Mr. Pete Whetstone who had lived and toured these countries with his wife and Karen and Kevin when he was stationed tl~Tere while serving in the Royal Canadian Airforce. Mrs. Grange thanked Mr. Whetstone for his pictures and commentary. Local man wins $500 A ' Clinton man, David Anstett was the winner of the big prize of $500 in the Kin- smen's night draw held last Friday night at the arena; and local minor sports associations were even bigger winners as the Kin- smen raised $2,500 for them. The Kinsmen hold the night annually `fraise money for the youth of the area, and reported another successful draw and stag again this year with about $2,500 being raised. Other winners of $25 in the draw included Ken McGee of (;orlerich Pete Black of Clinton; Bill Stevenson of RR 2, Seaforth; John Wise of Clinton; Don Rathwell of RR 1, Varna; Russ Archer of Clinton; G. Hazlitt and D. Cameron of Brookside Public School; Frank Bushy of Stratford; Ron Ellis of Drayton; and W. "J. Denomme of Goderich.
