Grow flowering bulbs indoors
Flowering bulbs grown
indoors during the winter can
add color and cheer to your
home on dull winter days.
R.F. Gomme, Ontario
ministry of agriculture and
food horticulturist, says
forcing varieties of tulips,
daffodils, hyacinths, and
narcissus indoors is quite
easy.
"It's only a matter of
simulating the outside
growing conditions in a
shorter time span."
Bulbs should •be planted in
pots containing a soil mixture
of equal parts loam, sand and
peat moss. Mr. Gomme
recommends. placing small
stones or broken crockery
over the hole at the bottom of
the pot to ensure good
drainage.
To plant butbs, start by half
filling the pot with soil, then
placing the bulbs one-half
inch apart. Add more soil
until just the tips of.the bulbs
show.
Mr. Gomme cautions
against packing the soil too
tightly. Water the pot
thoroughly so the soil settles
around the bulbs at a level
about one-half inch below the
pot rim.
Place the pots in a cool,
dark place such as the
basement, garage, or
refrigerator, for about three
months. Check occasionally
to see whether bulbs are
rooting and moist.
Mr. Gomme says bulbs can
be brought into warmer
temperatures in a shaded
location once roots begin to
show in the drainage hole and
some top growth begins.
As the shoots green,
remove the plants to a
brighter area with a room
temperature of about 18
degrees C and water them
well.e

DOWNDRAFT SPACE HEATERS
A new coneeif in
wood burning space heaters
using the downdraft principle.
THE
DOWNDRAFT
PRINCIPLE
The Carmor space heaters combine air tight con-
struction and downdraft principle to produce ex-
tremely efficient heaters. Warm air is delivered
from above the heater through the downdraft
tubes to produce a "blow torch" effect in the
firebox. Two draft tube covers control air en-
tering the draft tubes. Rising combustible gases
are mixed with fresh oxygen to provide ex-
cellent combustion and minimal accumulation of
ash. The fire burns from the top down and thus
eliminates the need for a grate.

HEAT CIRCULATOR
The Model 832 Heat Circulator. It's a

air duct and grille system.
The flexible ducts allow• placement
of grilles virtually anywhere:
1. sides of fi-replace
2. front of fireplace and adjoining room
3. adjoining room and upstairs rooms.
As with all Acorn Olympics, the
installation is easy and finishing
possibilities are unlimited.
