The parents of the boys who 4vill be invested are cordially invited to attend. Resource Centre The Vanastra Resource Centre will have boxes of good used clothing to give away at the centre for the next three weeks. Anyone wishing to browse through these boxes may do 1 so on Thursday afternoons.. The film, "Twelve and a Half nts" was not available last eek but it will be shown on Thursday, November 17 at 2 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend. Church news The Vanastra Church • celebrated the Lord's Supper this past Sunday with Reverend Boersma of- ficiating. The service theme was "Salvaging Human Relationships". The church welcomed the Henry Klooster family from Mount Bridges and special friends from Clinton. Bible Study was held at the Boersma's featuring 'a lively oillicussion of "Romans 1-8". ee couples were present and the discussion was followed.by a social hour. Next week the group'i11 meet at the Gonies' and discuss "Romans 9-16". ''Wiese meetings are open and we urge anyone who is in- terested to come and learn more from God's word. 4 Thursday evening, November 17, we have a planning meeting for "Arts and Crafts". This program offers children a Bible story and craft activity. If you can help us out, please come to the meeting at 8 p.m. in the church."" We need both teachers and helpers. Next Sunday, November 30, Reverend Ted Hoogsteen from Blyth will give the message, "Relationships that Last", a study of how Christ can add meaning to our lives. Remember Church School is at 10 a.m. and the worship service is at 11:00 a.m. Swim-a-thon A swim-a-thon will be sponsored by the Vanastra Recreation Centre on Saturday, November 26 at 2 p.m. Your support for this swim-a-thon would be gratefully appreciated because the following items are urgently required for our Vanastra centre. - additional pool equipment; additional gymnastic equipment; equipment for kinder -gym program; and equipment for exercise classes. Participants may start swimming any time between Hensall 7 and 2 p.m. Cash prizes of $10 will be awarded for the following categories: the youngest swimmer entered; the most money received and for the most lengths in the age groups up to 9 years; 10-14 years; 15-30 years; 31-49 years and 50 years and up. Free refreshments will be available for all participants. For sponsor sheets or further information, contact the Vanastra Recreation Centre at 482-3544. Three Links Club by Hilda Payne The ThroqeLinks Senior .Citizens Hensall met on Tuesday evening, November 8 at the IOOF Hall for euchre. Seven tables were in play. The .winners were: ladies high Miss Mary Broadfoot; gents high Carl Payne; lone hands Mrs. Gladys Coleman; door prize, Rosa Harris; lucky cup, Mrs. Bert Horton. At the business session, the treasurer reported a balance of $1,186.53 in the New Horizons account and $477.08 in the general account. As the New Horizons money has to be spent by the end of the year it was decided to pur- chase further quilting materials, wool for knitting and rug making, and crochet cotton. Mrs. Gertie Moir, Mrs. Nellie Riley and Mrs. Anita Bengough were named to arrange for these pur- chases. The treasurer also reported that the monthly rent would be $10 per moth, starting on January. The December meeting is to be a smorgasbord,supper. A report of the Fall Rally of Zone Eight was given by Mrs. Laird Mickle and Mrs. Rosa Harris. The scoring remains close down the list with the James Gang in third with 27; the Corner Pin Six with 23; Leonard's Dumbells have 21 and the Mac Tacks are last with 19. Marie Collins had the high *single for the ladies with 265 and Jo -Anne Collins had the triple of 655, while Marie Collins and Betty Daer tied for the high average of 206. In the men's scoring,' Murray Johnston had the gh single of 288, Joe Daer 0d 704 for the high triple and ' 8 pins gave Art Burt the high average of the day. • Ladies' Tuesday Afternoon The June Bugs are in first with 44 and the Boyes Girls are in second with 42 while Hurman's Harem is close in third with 41 points. Nancy's Chics and the Campbell Supers are tied with 38 and Rosie's Rebels have kept the scoring close with a last place position with 37 points. 4 Lois Gibbings and ,Mona Campbell both had the high single with, 251 apiece; but Mona took the high triple with 608. Nancy Roy had 195 for the high average. Crown Mixed The Sweets have first spot with 42 points and have a good lead over the second place Victors who have 37. Following down the team list are: the Luckie Eights, 33 points; the Snowdrops, 32 points; the Super Strikers and the Bowler Bugs, 31 points each; the Butterflies,, 24 points;. the Dummies, 22 points. Sheila Keys had the ladies' high single with 299 and the high triple with 689. Valerie Marriage had the high average of 247. Rob Van Damme was the top bowler for the men.. He had the high single of 284, the high triple of 669 and the high average of 218. YBC Majors The Five Stars have 24 for first place and Kathy's Clowns have 21 points for second place. The Zappers have 14 and the Pickles have 11 Jill Jervis had the ladies' high single of 217. Louise Gibbings had 562 for the high triple and 200 for the high average. Bob Falconer was tops in the men's scoring. He had the high single of 269, the high triple of 763 and the high average of 220. Clinton Men Crown No. 2 is in first place with 38 and Merners No. 1 have 32 points. The Bluebirds No. 2 team have 27 and Merners No. 2 have 25. Bluebirds No. 1 have 23 and the Crown No. 1 team have two points for last place. John Greidanus had the high single of 324. Doc Miller had 839 for the hign triple and Bruce Collins had 224 for the high average. Tuckersmith Misted Angus' Anglers have 29 points for first place while John's Jellyfish have 26 for second and Tony's Sharks are in third with 24. Wes' Suckers have 21 points; Mike's Mackerals have 14 and Bob's Bluegills are last with 12. Joanne Hayman had the high single of 250 and the high triple of 634 for the women, while, Angus Hummel was tops in the men's scoring with a 261 high single and a high triple of 676. November 30 will be professional development day for teachers. There will be no school for the pupils as the teachers hold interviews with the parents on this date. WI hold card party The WI of Goderich Township held a card party in the public school or�,Thursday evening, November' 10. There were eight tables of cards and the winners were: ladies' high, Phyllis Cox; ladies' low, Thursa Miller; men's high, Frank Thompson; men's low, Bill Norman; lone hands, Frank Thompson. The chairman of the recreation committee, Grant Sterling, presented a Goderich Township Crest to Arie Van Der Ende and Elaine Townshend was present to take photographs of the occasion. Jerry Ginn presented Miss Townshend with a crest and he explained that they are not for sale but may be obtained by donating $2 to the rec committee. The recipients expressed their thanks for the crests and lunch and a social time were enjoyed. Everett Mcllwain won a prize for having the lucky cup. The next card party is scheduled for Thursday, November 24 at 8:15 p.m. Hazel McCreath has,the Township crests and anone interested in obtaining one may contact her at 524-7436. United Church Worship service was held in Holmesville United Church along with Sunday School for the children. Rev, John Oestreicher and guest minister, Rev. Donald Pletsch of Port Dover con- ducted a question and answer period to inform the congregation of Rev. Plet- sch's work in Dierre Leone, Africa. He went there as an agricultural representative to help develop methods suited to the soil and climate. While in Africa he was ordained. Rev, Pletsch told how the church is growing more quickly in some areas than in others. After the discussion, Rev, Pletsch thanked the congregation for their sup- port to Missions and Services which in turn supports the Youth Exchange Program that made it possible for him to work in Africa. Curling news. The Countiry Singles Club made a $200 donation last Saturday night to the Clinton Legion Pipe Band to help them travel to the Rose Bowl parade this January. Personals Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Potter returned home last Thursday after visiting with their daughter Helen and grand- sons Donald and Robert in London while their son-in-law Ken Ashton was recuperating from eye surgery in St. Joseph's Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Norman along with Mr. and Mrs. Barrie Walter visited with Mr. and Mrs.Kenneth Trewartha on the weekend. Diane Collins and her sister Hazel of Oakville returned home on Saturday from a two-week vacation in Clearvwiatgr Beach, Florida. Jo -Anne Collins is a patient in University ' Hospital, London as a result of a car accident on Friday, November 11. News of Hensall 1 by Hilda M. Payne Remembrance was the theme running through the November meeting of the unit two of Hensall United Church UCW held on Monday, November 14. The meeting was chaired by Mrs. Joyce Pepper who read several short poems. The devotional, led by Miss Mary Goodwin, dwelt on the, joys of remembrance. Joyce read an article sent by Mrs. Irene Blackwell on the life of Dr. John McCrae who wrote, "In Flanders Field". For the study, Mrs. Helen, MacLean took the life of Florence Nightingale and her selfless devotion During the business session, ushers were chosen for the general meeting on December .5 and arrangements were made to decorate . the Sanctuary for the Advent season and to hold the Birthday party k at the Bluewater Rest Home. Dapper Dillon picked up his 14th win of the year with driver Terry Kerr at Windsor on Saturday night in the $7,500 trot. The six-year-old gelding by Dapper Hill - Ann Key defeated Dart Camp in 2:02.2. Dapper is owned by Doreen Rowcliffe of Hensall and , Barry Elliott of Kit- chener.
