Colts is open season
The regenerated Clinton
Intermediate. "C" Colts,
playing . with very few
returning players from last
year, and in a new league,
open their 1977-78 season this
weekend.
The Colts travel to Mitchell
on Friday night to battle the
Red Devils, and then host the,
Monkton club here at the
Clinton arena on Sunday
night at 8 p.m.
The Colts, who folded this
fall, were revived by a group
of intermediate hockey
supporters in town, but
switched leagues .from the
Ontario Hockey Association
to the Western Ontario
Athletic Association, and
many of last year's Colts quit
rather ti -an play in the
WOAA.
But Harvey Carter, along
with several other interested
hockey fans in town, revived
the club last month, and they
have been practicing at
Vanastra.
Not only were they suf-
fering from lack of players at
first, but they didn't book ice
time at the Clinton Arena
soon enough, and had to
practice at Vanastra.
They will play all their
home games at Clinton,
however.
Paul Anstett is handling the
managers reins, while John
Leppington is treasurer.
George Divok is looking after
the coaching duties with
assistance from Harvey
Carter.
Clinton snowmobile club
picks new executive
There was a small turnout
Monday evening when the
Clinton and District
Snowmobile Club held their
first meeting of the season at
the agriculture office in town.
The absence of members
did not deter those present
and Ray Potter noted that
members tend to stay away
on election night.
Although only 10 men were
present, less than half of the
expected membership this
winter, elections were held
and new officers chosen.
The executive for the 197 i-
78 season is: past president,
• Ray Potter; president, Joe
Gibson; vice president, Don
Forrest; secretary -treasurer,
Brian Gerig.
President Gibson noted to
the men, "I hope this isn't the
end of the club. I hope we get
some good trails to run on."
Initial plans were made at
the.meeting for Whipper's 4th
Annual Snowarama which
helps to support crippled
children.
The event, to be held on
January 29 wilt be similar to
last year's run with four clubs
participating - Clinton, Hully
Gully, Pineridge Chalet and
Ailsa Craig.
The Clinton club will have a
25 mile trail and each
snowmobiles will collect a
minimum amount of dollars
in pledges in order to par-
ticipate.
With the permission of
landowners, the club hopes to
run their trail from con. 4 in
Stanley township to the
Maitland River and back to
con. 2 in Stanley at the
Bayfield River.
The entire run will be 100
miles and Clinton will be
putting up a quarter of it.
Last year over $36,000 was
raised for Timmy and the
crippled children.
The group' discussed the
purchase of a groomer- to
prepare the trail but no
decision was made.
The snowmobile. en-
thusiasts will meet the'second
Monday of each month at 8
p.m. in the agriculture of-
fices..
Figure skating club news
by Audrey Middleton
For a special skating club
cookbook we are asking for
your favourite recipes. So
Mother, please carefully copy
it out, sign your name and
your skater's name and
submit it to the president,
Barb Norman on Saturday.
The sooner we gather our
recipes together, the sooner
we can order our books. So
don't delay. We want every
family represented.
Mrs. Garry (Norma)
Preszcator has kindly
volunteered to be our NST
chairman. Part of her
responsibilities will be
charting the ac-
complishments of the
beginners and juniors, selling
the badges when earned and
being in charge of the
amateur coaches. Mrs. Hugh
Flynn will assist Mrs.
Preszcator by being in charge
of the children from 12 until 1
p.m. during patch time and
will play the dance music
from 12:45 to 1 p.m.
The club is also grateful for
another volunteer amateur
coach, Mrs. Debbie Jones,
who will help coach the
beginners and juniors.
Club members please bear
with us with patience this
Saturday as the number of
coaches will be cut
drastically due to an im-
portant competition being
held away from home.
Three of our senior skaters
Margaret Dupee, Brenda
Dupee and Peggy Jones have
been spending many hours in
preparation for Clinton's first
entries in the Western
Ontario sub -sectional com-
petition , being held at
Tillsonburg on Saturday
November 19. Other skaters
are going to give them extra
,moral support. Best wishes
girls. You'll have the whole
club and • many friends
thinking about you and
wishing you success on
Saturday.
Congratulations to Shelley
Crawford who passed her
jump badge recently.
Former member Karen
Schneider and her parents
visited the'club last Saturday.
Karen now lives in Rexdale
and skates with the Wood-
bridge club. This past
summer she passed her
fourth figures' and the Kilian
Dance. ,Since joining 'the
Woodbridge club she has
acquired a skating partner
and together they passed the
Variation Dance. Soon they
will skate in the novice dance
class of the Central Ontario
Sectional competition. - by

second period when they
picked up five goals to Port
Elgin's three. '
All Clinton's goals in the
second period were scored by
different shooters as Paul
Priestap, John Hart, Steve
Cook, Dave Stevenson with
his second and Tim McLean
notched the markers for
Clinton.
'l'he third period, as far as
scoring went, belonged to
Port Elgin as they blinked the
light three -,times behind

remains the only team that
the Mustangs have not
defeated. this year, while
tying them twice and losing
once to them earlier in the
season.
Last Friday night the
Hanover Barons were in town
and the Mustangs increased
their first place lead with an'

he owns in partnership with
his father Bruce, her first
lifetime win. Fractions for
the mile were: 33.4 - 1:09.2 -

fourth race with Keep
Smiling, a six-year-old

by Nick Kozoriz of Sudbury.
His time of 2:10.1 was a new
record and his first win this
year. The same owner now
has Movin N Groovin, a four-
year -gelding by Adoras
Dream - Lexie Herbert, that
formerly belonged to Wayne
and Georgina Dupee.
Wayne drove Movin N
Groovin to a second place
finish in a race timed in
2:08.1. He has started 36
times in 1977 with three wins,
seven seconds and two thirds
and a record of 2:06.4 at
