McDonald for baptism. Michael James, son of John and Judy Dixon and Marsha Anne, daughter of Robert and Valerie Miller and her godparents Jim Switzer and Mrs. George Dowson. The choir anthem was "He Cares for His Own" ,ithRuth Shaddick choir irector and Louise McGregor organist. Junior congregation teachers were Beverly Riley and Laura Scott. Rev. McDonald's message was "the ultimate question". Explorer's Expedition The Explorer purpose was said and they sang,_ the Explorer song. Suza)ne Tamblyn and Karen Johr ston showed the Explorer em- blem. Angela Schmeider showed the Explorer picture and Mrs. Duizer talked to us about the Caribbean. The third year girls then initiated the first year girls and Mrs. Wright. For the next expedition, Suzanne Tamblyn and Sandy Carter are in IP charge of the program. 4-H meets The Apple Dumpling Gang made apple pies at meeting five at Judy Datema's. The club started right into making pies, and if you • haven't made pies before, you are in for a surprise. They turned out fairly good. Julie Snell and Diane Shobbrook made the pies which were discussed. First card party The first Women's Institute card party of the season was held on Friday night October 28 with eight tables in play. Winners were: ladies' -high, Vera Gibbings; lone hands, Pearl Cummings; low, Margaret Taylor. The men's prizes were all won by ladies playing as men: high, June Fothergill; lone hands, Dora Shobbrook; low Elizabeth Medd. There will be another party on November llth at 8:30. p.m. In charge will be Marjorie Anderson, Helen Lawson and Beryl Reid. Personals We welcome Mr. and Mrs. Clare McDougall and Amber from Auburn, who moved on Friday into the home they purchased from Mr. and Mrs. Roy Cohen of Tillsonburg. They have spent parts of the past three summers here. Mrs. Laura Forbes is a patient in Clinton Public Hospital. 0 Miss Edythe Beacom was admitted to Stratford General Hospital on Sunday with a 0 fractured ankle. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Saundercock on their first grandchild and to Mrs. Laura Saundercock on her first great grandchild, born to Wayne and Lynn Peck in St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital on October 29, a daughter Kelly Lynne. Mr. and Mrs. Claire J. Vincent are pleased to an- nounce a new granddaughter, a chosen daughter for Don and Fran Vincent at Hanna, Alberta, born September 22 and named Jodi Lynn Lorraine. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Lee spent the weekend with their daughter Dr. and Mrs. Gary Gall, Stoufville. Emerson Hesk and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Durnin visited on Sunday with their nephew, Mr. and Mrs. Elwin Kerslake, Woodham. Berean Unit of the UCW meeting will be held November 8 at 2 p.m. in the church hall - there will be a talk on New Horizon under the leadership of Alice Davidson, who is the key representative of•Londesboro district.• Mr. and Mrs. Bill Gillies, St. Thomas, visited last week with Mr. and Mrs. Harry Durnin. Attending the fall regional UCW meeting on Monday night at Ontario St. United Church were Helen Lawson, Margaret and Joan Whyte, Gail Lear, Hattie Wood, Audrey Thompson and Dora Shobbrook. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Shob- brook .visited on Sunday with granddaughter, Valerie and Robbie Miller, Clinton and attended a family gathering following the baptism of Marsha Anne at Londesboro United Church. The WI world affairs meeting will be held on Wednesday November 9th at 8 p.m. in the hall. Roll call is a newspaper clipping of another country. Keith Allen will speak on world religion yoga and an auction bake sale will be held. Visitors will be the Clinton WI and Summerhill community club. (News -Record photo) Vanastra Voicings,. GIRL GUIDES Enrolment for the Ten- derfoot Guides will be held on November 3 at 7 p.m. at the Vanastra Church and all parents are cordially invited to attend. Refreshments will be served after the enrolment. Lions Club Last Friday evening the Vanastra Lions Club held a successful Pub Night at the Sandpiper Inn. Everyone there had a very enjoyablb evening and the club should be congratulated for presenting such a unique night of entertainment. Quite a few spooks, goblins, and witches attended the Hallowe'en party sponsored by the Lions Club at, the Vanastra Church. Winners in the various categories were: Susan and Sandy Ryan (1-5 yr.); Colin Thomas (6-10 yr.); and Joan Walker (11 yrs. and up) for the most original costume; Dwayne Durnin (1-5 yr.), Karen -Anne Yonie (6-10 yr.), and Kim Argyle (11 yrs. and up) for the scariest costume; and for the funniest costume Jeremy Boersma (1-5 yr.) , Robbie Argyle (6-10 yr.) and Barry Gauvier 11 yrs. and up. Raffle and dance The draw for the park equipment raffle was held on October 31. Mrs. Elizabeth Forler of Vanastra won the $100 first prize. Other winners were W. L. Elliott of Btayfield, $50; and Faye Dustow of Goderich, $20. Stephen Jeacock of Vanastra° won $10 for selling the most tickets. • A benefit dance to help raise money for park equipment will ,be held on November 12 at the Sand- piper Inn. Dance from 10 - 1 a.m. to the music of the Star Trex. Tickets, are $10 per couple and may be obtained from Mrs. J. Jeacock, Mrs:, D. Ryan and Mrs. S. McLachlan. Resource centre A report on the Canada Works Project, the possibility of a minimum heat by-law for Tuckersmith Township and a film presentation are some of the subjects which will be dealt with at this week's meeting of the Vanastra Resource Centre. These sessions begin at 1:30 p.m. each Thursday and all residents of Vanastra are welcome to ..- attend. Babysitting services are provided free of charge. Child health care clinic A child health care clinic will be held on November 3 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Vanastra Church. She has accepted a position in the same hnspita.l, eom- mencing her duties on Nov. 7 and is_being married on Nov. 2Gth. Connie says they have had a very busy summer at their motel at K ilworthy. Mrs. Laura Keys was home from hospital for a few days and is staying with her son Clayton and family in Clinton at present. We sincerely hope she'll soon be in good health again.
