1iembers of the Clinton
Christian Reformed Church,
led by Dick Roorda, formed a
choir for the Sunday evening
song service at Huronview.
Miss Eunice Lamb was
welcomed to Huronview at
the Monday afternoon
program. The Goderich
Township Women's Institute
volunteers assisted with the
activities. Mrs. Driver, Molly
Cox, Norman Speir, Cecil
Skinner and Jerry Collins on cabinet
provided the old tyme music.
Morgan Dalton sang a solo
number and helped to lead
the sing -a -long.
John Stevley, a member of
the Clinton Legion Pipe Band
showed a film on Family
Night of the tournament of
roses parade at Pasedena
California. The one part of the
film told the story of the
parade from its inception and
was brought to this area by
the Mass Pipe Bands of
Southwestern Ontario. The
tournament is of special
interest to the residents of
this area this year as the
mass bands plan to take part
in the parade on January 2,
1978.
The annual bazaar spon-
sored by the Huronview
Auxiliary was quite suc-
cessful on Wednesday af-
ternoon and was well
patronized by the public.
Mrs. Shirley Proutey of
Exeter conducted the weekly
bible study accompanied at
the organ by Mrs. Fink-
beiner. Reverend Pierce of
Crediton assisted with
devotions and Mrs. Pierce
sang a solo number`
McKinley, Jarvis
Huron -Middlesex MP Bob
McKinley will , remain the
public works critic in Con-
servative Joe Clark's shadow
cabinet.
McKinley is one of five
Western Ontario MP's who
will figure pitominently in the
cabinet.
Perth MP Bill Jarvis, who
used to be the party's en-
vironment critic has now
moved up to the position of
the critic of the solicitor -
,general's department.
Other MPs named to the
cabinet were Elgin MP John
Wise, who remains the
agriculture critic, Oxford MP
Bruce Halliday, who will be in
charge on fitness and
amateur sport, and Bob
Holmes from Lambton-Kent
who will remain the
spokesman for Indian affairs.
Local obituaries
Clifferd Stewart
A lifelong area resident,
Clifford James Stewart died
in Clinton Public Hospital on
Thursday, October 20. He was
in his 74th year.
Mr. Stewart was born on
the family homestead on the
4th concession of Stanley
Township,, the youngest son of
the late Fenwick and Alice
(Rathwell) . Stewart, on
February 6, 1903. He attended
school at SS No. 1, Stanley.
On November 25, 1925 he
married Edna Cuming at her
parents' home near Blyth.
They farmed for 34 years on
the 2nd concession of Stanley.
In 1959 they retired to Clinton
and took up residence at 203.
Princess Street, E., where
they have lived since.
Surviving besides his wife
Edna are: three daughters,
Mrs. Walter (Lillian)Turner,
Bayfield; Mrs. Hugh (Betty)
Millar', Londesboro and
Helen, London. ' Two sons,
Jack of London and Jim of
Montreal also survive. Also 13
grandchildren and four great-
granddaughters and one
sister, "Mrs. Fred (Mary)
Smith of Toronto ands one
brother, Ken of Brucefield,.
also survive.
The funeral service was
conducted from the Ball
uneral Home with Rev.
John Oestreicher in charge.
Pallbearers were Frank
McGregor, John McGregor,
D'Arcy Rathwell, Charles
Nelson, John Moffatt and
Gerald Horton.
Flowerbearers were three
grandsons, Bob Stewart,
Randy Millar and Stewart
Turner.
Interment was in Baird's
Cemetery in Stanley
Township.
W. Lawrence Biggin
W. Lawrence Biggin of RR
2, Clinton died suddenly at his
home on October 15 as the
result of a farm accident. He
. was in his 66th year.
He was born in Clinton to
Wilfred and Alvaretta Biggin
and attended SS 4 in Goderich
Township. Along with far-
ming, Mr. Biggin was . a
retired bus driver for
Greyhound Lines of Canada
Ltd. He was married in 1930
to the former Marion Jones in
Seaforth.
Following. their marriage,
the couple lived in Stratford,
Clinton, Windsor, London and
retired back to the farm in
Goderich Township in 1972.

autumn colors.

Women met in the church hall
on October 20th with an at-
tendance of 19, and three
visitors.
Mrs. Leona Holland
presided and welcomed those
present and gave a poem
"Autumn" and the scripture
was read by Mrs. Holland.
Mrs. J. McGregor led in
prayer. Mrs. F. Fingland
gave a paper on
Thanksgiving.
Mrs. Wm. Craig and Mrs.
Harold Wise, who had been
delegates from the UCW to
the training school at Alma
College, St. Thomas, both
gave their vivid impressions
of leadership given at that
time; the enthusiasm of the
leaders who imparted
knowlledge on various sub-
jects, and by pictures and
tape recording brought out
tho thought of Thanksgiving
for so many things.
The girls thanked the UCW
for giving them the op-
portunity to attend the
leadership conference and
Mrs. Fingland expressed the
thanks of the Unit to the girls
for giving first hand in-
formation on many subjects.
Mrs. 3. Rathwell presided
for the business period. Mrs.
Nelson reported four cards
sent, and Mrs. Livermore
said all flower conveners
helped deco ;ate the Church
for the Thanksgiving service.
Mrs. Hearn reported 51 home
and two hospital calls made.
The nominating committee
were Mrs. ' Livermore and
Mrs. Busby. Various
meetings were announced
and the meeting adjourned
and Prayer by Mrs. Rathwell
closed the meeting.
Summerhill Ladies meet
The regular October
meeting of the Summerhill
Ladies' Club was held in the
local hall recently , and 'was
opened with a sing song by

guests by the groom's mother
in a gown of aqua polyester
crepe with matching 'floral
jacket. Her corsage was pink
carnations.
After the reception, the
young couple left on a
honeymoon trip to Sault Ste.
Marie and Thunder Bay. The
bride travelled in a, green
pant suit with corsage of
yellow roses. On their return.
they will reside on the
groom's farm at RR4 Clinton.
