Junior "C" hockey action, the Clinton Mustangs received their first loss of the season when the Port Elgin Bears defeated them 6-5 Friday. On Sunday night, the Stgngs ,travelled to Kin- cardine for the second time this year and skated away With a 2-1 victory over the-- Kinucks, On Friday night against Port Elgin, the Mustangs: opened up a 2-1 lead after the first period on goals by Steve Cook and Tim McLean, Port Elgin came back in the second period with a pair of goals while Clinton managed only one from the stick of Paul Helesic. The third period was a see- saw battle which saw the teams tied'5-5 at the midway point of the period before Port Elgin scored the eventual winner by B. Kingston, his third goal of the game. Chris Cossitt and Bill Smith scored for Clinton in the third period. Dean Ryan had 36 saves for Clintort during the game. On Sunday night in Kin- cardine the Mustangs gave up the first goal to Kincardine's Mike MacDonald before the4j period was one minute old. Peter Thompson scored two minutes later to tie the score and 'Tim McLean scored the game winner midway through the second period. Kincardine goaltender John Collins made 37 saves while Jurgen Hellman had 26 saves for Clinton. Last Friday night, the Mustangs 300 Booster Club draw winners were Bill Strong and Steve Elson. The Kincardine Kinucks make their first visit to Clinton this Friday October 28 for an 8:30 p.m. game, while on Sunday the Mustangs travel to Listowel 'to challenge the Cyclones at 7:30. p.m. Down at the local lanes YBC Teen The Chicken Coops are hanging onto first place with 17 points. The Bowling Bums are closing in with 16 points and they are being closely watched by Debbie's Buddies who have 15 points. The Bobcats are trailing in fourth place with 8 points. In the individual ladies scoring Judy Tiesma had the high single of 228. Jackie Zwaan had the high triple with 598 and the high average of 179. In the tnen's scoring, Mike wook took the high single with a 253 and Jamie Cooper had the high triple of 671 andthe high average of 223. Clinton -Blyth Ladies The Earthquakers are in first with 31. Following down the team standings are: Joan's Fin Poppers, 27 points; the Wandering Five, 26 points; the Foxy Bunch, 26 points; Fantastic "5", 24 points; Merry Mixers, 23 points; Cooper's Angels, 22 points; Davey's Dumplings, 21 points. In the individual scoring , Dorothy Boughen had the high single of 250 points.' Stella Peacock rolled the high triple of 652 and Mary Davey had the high average of 212. Molson's Crown Mixed The " James Gang and Bruce's Buddies are tied in first place with 17 and the Corner Six Pin are close ' behind with 16 points. The Do Goods have 13, Leonard's Dumbells have 12, and the Mac Tacks. have 9 points. Edna Atkinson had the high single of 267 points and the high triple of 674, while Betty Daer had the high average of 205. In the men's individual -scoring, Ken Johnson rolled a 350 for the high single, Art Burt had the high triple of 820 and the high average of 252. YBC Majors Kathy's Clowns are in first place with 10 points and the Five Stars are in second with 9. The Zappers have 7 and the Pickles are in last place with 2 points. Karen Wise had the high single of 233 and the high triple of 620, while Louise Gibbings had the high average an the ladies with a 204. Tuckersmith Mixed Angus' Anglers and Wes' Suckers are tied in first place with 14 points... John's Jellyfish and Tony's Sharks are tied in second place with 12 points each. Ladies' Tuesday Afternoon League Hurmah's Harem and the June Bugs are tied with 28 points and the Boyes Girls and Rosie's Rebels are tied in second with 25 points each. Nancy's Chics have 24 points and the Campbell Supers are last with 20 points. Nancy Roy was the top bowler of the day, she had 295 points for the high single, 814 for the high triple and 205 for the high average. For perhaps the first time, the senior skaters are now allowed 1/2 hour for group' lessons - be it precision or stroking sessions or just new jumps and spin's. It is taught by the head professional, Mr. Guy Gordon. This has been , made possible by some very con- centrated planning on the part sof the executive par- ticularily secretary Carol Fox, who is devoted to the sport itself and the development of Clinton area children especially. From .,the financial view point–the" club is grateful to the Clinton Kinettes, Kin- smen, Lions, and the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Thanks again, Clinton. Better club spirit exists when a class can have fun -time learning in a group. The intermediates have enjoyed group lessons ,now for several years but because of such a tight budget it wasn't offered to the seniors - Parents and any skaters are asked for their support at the bake 'n rummage sale this Saturday Oct. 29. Please take any donations to the town hall in the morning for sorting. A joint skate-a-thon (Minor Hockey and C.F.S. Club), sponsored by the Clinton Recreation council was held Saturday Oct. 22 9 a.m.-5 p.m. With 30 figure skaters and 83 hockey members the ratio of strengths per hour was slightly out of proportion. However, with only one- third of the members registered they made a good showing with several members completing the ,;,eight hours. A total of $325 has been pledged •by sponsors which will be appreciated by the club. During the skate-a-thon, 56 registrations for the begin- ners and juniors were received. Lester of Forest, won her third race of the year at Mohawk Raceway on Friday night. The four-year-old pacing daughter of Excel Knight - Margie Duke was timed in 2:03,4. She also has had nine seconds and six thirds from 44 starts with 1977 earnings of $21,273. Margie'"s Girl also raced at two and three, with earnings of $85,327. She now has a lifetime total of $106,600 and a record of 2:02.2. Will Knight was fourth for the same partners in the tenth. John Lester also drove Tar Daw Duke to .a fourth place finish for owners Larry Daw of Clinton and Claude Daw of Mississauga. Streakin Time, owned i � e?Y.., . � fit. -..� • w The Clinton Minor Hockey Association and the Figure Skating Club, works g together, staged a joint skate-a-thon last Saturday at the arena and raised over $2,000 in the eight- hour period. Willa's Ferrica, owned by Bruce and Ted Lamont of Seaforth was fifth with Ron Williamson driving. Bill Rapson of Holmesville was third with Senate Leader for his father Gord in the third division. ,An Ontario Intercollegiate driving championship was held. at London on Friday night. Several area •horses competed in this event. Goldies Hit, owned by Terry Rutledge of ' Clinton was second for driver Wayne Moorehead in the first heat. Champion Hit, owned . by Dennis Jewitt of Clinton won the second heat with driver Jim Watt. Chris Burkowski finished fourth with Mafeking Sandra for owners Len Goldfarb of Montreal and Randy McLean. Flame Messenger, owned by Evelyn' Rapson of Holmesville, was fourth with Bill driving. Bobby Tar was third for owner Jim ,Riehl of Goderich in a 2:05.4 mile. Jason Direct had a fifth with co-owner Randy McLean up in the fourth.
