Unit 4 UCW
Mrs James McAllister
opened the October meeting
of unit four of the Hensall
U.C.W. by reading a few
suggestions for abundant
living. Theme for the day was
thanksgiving which was
followed out by Mrs. Pearl
Shaddick in her devotional
when Mrs. Nan Britton ex-
plained how in our daily lives
we are persons by our own
actions and can let cheer-
fulness, laughter, kindness
and courtesy flow out to
others as water flows through
pipes.
At the business meeting
following, Mrs. Russell
Erratt said that a bale would
be packed for Angola on
October 25 for which articles
should be left at the church!
before that date.
Unit four will be respon-
sible for the programme- at
the next general meeting on
December 5,
Unit 2 UCW
Continuing their study of
the book, "Justice not
charity" Mrs. Eric Mansfield
pin -pointed . some of the
concerns anc1so lotions for a
new global economic system
at the October meeting of unit
two of Hensall UCW. on
Monday evening, October 17.
The rise in oil prices
demanded by OPEC begun in
1972 and continuing to this
day took away total control of
the world economic system
from the industrialized
nations. The New Inter-
national Economic Order
proposed by the UN aims at
reducing the dept. of
developing countries, by
improved food production
and increased industry.
What has Canada -done?
Through CIDA aid hais been
given by money and people.
This help is slowed because of
Canadians' lack of knowledge
of what is being done.
On October' 14, Canada
started on a program of dept.
cancellation, to be followed
by other countries, and in
future will give outright
grants. But a lot more is
needed by the suffering in
underdeveloped countries.
Her talk was followed by a
film, "Man and his resour-

; I
ces".
Mrs. Rodger Venner gave
the devotional based on the
beatitude, "Blessed are the
peacemakers". Everyone is
interested in peace, but the
seeds of peace must be
planted before God's garden
will grow, A hypocrite is a
person without peace,
making decisions leads to
peace. She closed with the
prayer of St. Francis of
Assisi. At the start• of the
devotional, Mrs. 'Donna St.
John sang, "The Lord is my
Shepherd" and following the,
film, "You'll never walk
alone".
Mrs. Ron "Mock chaired the
meeting and opened with a
poem "If we had to pay" and
closed with another, "The
organ player".
At the business session,
conducted by Mrs. Carl
Payne, all who helped at the
arena bake sale were thanked
and Mrs. Ian McAllister and
Mrs. Carl Payne agreed to
attend the Enrichment Day at
Centralia on October 18.
