was decorated for the service
of Thanksgiving with
vegetables and flowers. Rev.
G.A. Anderson was in charge
of the service - the theme of
the sermon was giving thanks
to God for the many
blessings we receive.
Don Travers sag two solos
"Why me" and "One day a't a
time" aid the Forrest or-
chestra led in singing.
UCW Meets
The Thanksgiving meeting
of the Hensall United Church
Women was held on Monday,
October 3 in the Fellowship
Hall. Mrs. Ken Elder and
Mrs. Bob Cook led the
devotional based on the
theme of love and sharing.
Elaine Townshend, the
speaker, told of her own
personal life as a han-
dicapped person, of the
founding of ALPHA, its aims
and achievements. The
handicapped encounter both
physical and social barriers
and the aim of ALPHA is to
help them become in-
tergrated into society.
The business session was
chaired by Mrs. James
Drummond. It was decided to
accept an invitation to put on
a birthday party at the
Bluewater Rest Home in
November, with Unit 2 in
charge. $100 was voted to the
Hensall Arena Fund and it
was announced that a bale
would be packed for Angola
on October 25 as well as the
usual one to London. It was
also decided to sell United
Church calenders again this
year at a charge of $1.25.
Enrichment Day will be
'held at Centralia United
Church on October 18 when
workshops on committee
Work will be held, so bring
sandwiches and tarts for noon
meal, beverage provided.
'Next year, the study will be
on the Carribean Crescent.
Mrs. C.' .Christie had at-
tended the 10th Annual
Westminster Weekend and
gave a glowing account of the
inspiration and help she had
received on that occasion.
Social Notes
Mrs. Cecil Pepper and Mrs.
Carl Payne attencied the
Women's Institute County
Rally held at Howick Centre
on Monday, October 3 when
the speaker was Glenn
Findlay, teacher at the E.C.-
Drury school for the hearing
impaired at Milton. He
described the different
'methods 'of teaching those
who cannot hear and their
achievements.
During the all day Rally,
which over 100 attended,
there were reports from the
Historical Society and the
Family and Children's
Services of Huron County
(formerly the CAS). Although
no bursaries were presented
last year, the bursary fund
was used to help five children
and the speaker, Mr. Richard
Boonstra, urged members to
contribute again to the fund
this year.
The two new County Home
Economists were introduced
and they told of the courses
presently being presented to
the 4-H Clubs and the ones for
next Spring. Seniors are to
get their own course in the
spring, "Personalise your
pattern". Training school will
be on February 21 and 22, or
23 and 24 in Wingham or
Clinton. There is also to be a
food forum on March 15 in the
evening, "Tricks with amix"
News about the Women's
Institute part in the 1978
Plowing Match near
Wingham was given.
Depending on available
space, a rest area will be set
up with displays from the
various committees in the
organization. The WI are also
asked to help with ushering
and the official banquet. Mrs.
James Drummond was ap-
pointed to sit on. the plowing
match committee to
represent Huron South.
Several attending were
wearing, the outfit designed
for the Huron County women 0
who desire to wear them at
the match. They are com-
pleted by a brooch badge with
name plate attached if
desired. Next year, the Rally
will be held in Londesboro on
the first Monday in October.
