The second meeting of the
Hensall II 4-H club was held
at "Joyce Pepper's house on

tested. A discussion followed
on types of fruit and where
they came from and a name
for the club was discussed but
not decided on.

The service on Sunday at
the United Church was
conducted by Rey. Don Beck
with Mrs. John Turkheim at
the organ. The choir sang the
anthem "0 Mighty God" to
the tune of "How Great Thou
Art" and the World Wide
Communion . Meditation was
on God - the' Cunning Craft-
sman - God in His skill,
carves a masterpiece out of
our mistakes.
The flowers in the Sanc-
tuary were from the funerals
of Bill. Kyle and Mrs. Cora
Dodds.
4-H meets •
On September 27, Hensall 3
4-H club, The Horn of Plenty,
held their second meeting at
Betty Beer's home with all
eight members present.
Ontario .fresh fruits, im-
ported fruits and their in-
spection and grading were
the topics for discussion.
Betty demonstrated how to

apples and
demonstrated ,,howto cut and
prepare citrus fruits.
For a snack we made baked
apples with individual
fillings, fresh fruit cup and
hot chocolate.
The second meeting of
Hensall 1 4-H club, the Apple
Dumplings, was held at the
•home of Diane Gerstenkorn
with nine girls present.
Importing, inspection and
grading and selection of fruit
were discussed with the girls
sampling some imported
fruits such as avocado, kiwi,
mango and pomegranates.

• Auction raises $8,000
Only the shell of the arena
remains but Hensall's
citizens used it to the fullest
on Saturday when the curling
club and building committee
staged a monster auction
sale of household articles and
used lumber from the
demolished interior.
The Kinettes and K-40 Club
ran a food booth, the radies•
organizations held a Bake
Sale and the Legion staged a
Bike-a-thon on•:Sunday in
which about 70 people took
part.
Pledges are not all in, but it
is . estimated that between
.$2,000 and $3,000 will be the
final -count when all the
pledges are in ^on October 15.

broken shoulder, cuts,

Community Association
The Vanastra Community
Association held its annual
meeting Monday, October 3
at 8 p.m.. After the presidents
annual report . and the
financial statement was read,
elections were held for the
new executive for the up-
coming year.
The new • offices are:
president, Robin Gates; vice-
president, Ben Bridges; and
secretary -treasurer, Pat
Bridges. Joy Langon, Edna
Jeffries, Joe Meir, Nic
Evans, Barb Carol, and Jim
Ryan who were elected to the
Board of Directors.
At this time the Association
still requires two more
directors to fill the board,
therefore,, nominations are
now being taken to fill the
vacancies. Nominations -close
at midnight October 17 and
they must be given to the
secretary -,treasurer in
writing.
A short General Meeting
will be held on October 31 at 8
p.m. at the Recreation
Centre to elect the two new
Voicings
w
board members. All residents
of Vanastra of legal voting
age are eligible • to vote
whether or not he is a paid up -
member of the Association.
Don't - forget the
Thanksgiving Dance on
Saturday October 8 at the
Recreation Centre. There are
still a few letters left so get
yours no"w.
Memorial service
Over 200 Brownies, Guides,
Cubs, Scouts and parents
from Vanastra and Clinton
gathered at the Vanastra
Christian Church on Sunday
October 2 in memory of Lady,
Baden-Powell, World chief
Guide, who passed away last
summer..
Reverend Boersma con-
ducted the service during
which each Guider and
Scouter reaffirmed their
promise.
Resource Centre
The Vanastra Resource
Centre is holding a public
meeting. on October 6
beginning at 1:10 p.m. at the
Vanastra Church. Subjects
which. are pertinent to the
community will be discussed

The Community Library
will open its doors for the first
time on Tuesday and Thur-
sday morning's from 9 to 12
noon.
More volunteers are still
needed to help staff the
library so if you have two
hours to spare once a month
please call Meryl Thomas at
482-9467.
A child Health Care Clinic
will be held on October 6 at
the Vanastra Church from
9:30-11:30 a.m. Services
offered are immunization;
hearing vision and anemia
screening,
Raffle tickets are now
being sold to help raise funds
to buy equipment for our
parks. The draw will take
place on October 31 at the
Recreation Centre.
A benefit dance is also
being held on November 12 at
the Sandpiper Inn. Tickets
are $10 per couple and are on
sale now. For tickets please
call Mrs. Dianne Ryan, Mrs.
June Jeacock, or Mrs. Sandra
McLachlan.
