County team march towards Ohio Cup
On Sunday, October 2nd,
the Huron County Pee Wee
All-Star soccer team took
another big step towards the
OHIO Cup by downing
Niagara Falls, the only other
Ontario team left in the
competition, by a score of 3-2.
Playing in about the
poorest conditions they have
met this year, they were soon
on the attack and at the 10
mknute mark Clinton's sharp
shooter Charlie Wise opened
the scoring from Garry Ryan
of St. Columban.
At the other end of the field
the Niagara team was. forcing
Rick Helm of Exeter to make
some fine saves and it was the
Ryan and Wise combination
that put Huron County farther
ahead when Wise beat the
Niagara keeper from about 18
yards out.
Wise again slipped the ball
past the Niagara goalie
making the score 3-0 for
Huron County. Just before
half time, Wise almost made
it 4-0. Breaking in alone, he
beat the advancing Niagara
goalie only to see his shot
slow down in the mud.
,
In the second half Niagara
carne more into the game and
with the local referee
favoring the home team the
Coupty boys' game went to
pieces. Niagara scored two
goals but it was not enough to
stop theoHuron AIi•Stars from
advancing into the next
round. .
Coaches Dave ,Silcock,
Grand Bend; Tony Jeacock,
Clinton, and Vie Alexander,
Goderich, are hoping for a
home game in., the quarter
finals, then on to 'Toledo,
Ohio, for the semi-finals and
finals the last weekend in
October. Thanks to the
parents and friends who
supported the team.
The four boys representing
Clinton on the All-Star team
are Roy Brown, John Elliott,
Tony Gibbings and Charlie
Wise.

Soccer club loses
to hockey
By Rosemary Armstrong
The Clinton Soccer Club
went down fighting in the
carne against Delhi last
Sunday and although the
eventual score was 5-0 for
Delhi, the real score was
Soccer 0 Hockey 3,,- as once
again soccer took a back seat
to the all important game of
hockey!
Clinton arrived at Delhi
with only eight players and
played for the entire game
three -men short, butonly in
the last 20 minutes did their
energy and determination
lapse, allowing Delhi to over-
power their gallant effort and
score at will.
This loss guarnatees
Clinton Third Division next
season, despite playing better
soccer than ever before.
Now we look forward to
winning all our games next
year and being right back up
again in Second Division
where we rightfully belong.
