At the regular meeting of
'Branch 140 of the Canadian
Legion last Monday, Sep-
tember 26th, three regular
;members, and eight associate
`members swelled the ranks of
the Legion.
The threetregular members
were Richard Dixon, John
Anderson, and Alden King.
Associate members were
Frank Arts, Tack Cofquhoun,
:Glen Thomas, Gordon Tait,,
Loise Brochu. Steve Maguire,
Kerry Maguire, and Gordon
Yeo:'
Thce initiation team con-
sisted of Past Zone Com-
mander Bill Chambers and
Past Presidents Frank Pyke,
Russ Phillips, Ed Porter; as
well as our World War 1 Vet
and Past President J.K.
Cornish.
Comrade President John
Deeves thanked the initiation
team for a job well done and
welcomed the new Members
into the Branch. Zone
Commander George Cam-
pbell reminded all present
that following a successful
vote at the Dominion Con-
vention all associate mem-
bers will have the right to
vote as well as hold office.
In other business, the
Legion, donated $500 to' the
Clinton Pipe Band, this
'amount atony with the $500
donation by`the Ladies
United church news
Hullett Masonic Lodge No.
568 with W.M. Ted Overholt,
held their Divine service on
Sunday morning in the United
Church. Welcoming into the
sanctuary were Kevin Hulley
and Dennis Fothergill and the
- ushers were Danny Jewitt,
Kevin Fothergill, Mark
'Mitchell and Bob Penfound.
The Masonic Brethren
paraded into the centre pews.
Rt. Wor. Bro. Clare Vincent
was D of C. Blyth Lodge' No.
303 joined the Hullett Lodge
for • this service. Rev.
McDonald welcomed the
Masons and all other visitors.
The choir anthem was

organist. Rev. McDonald's
children's story was "a lost
key". Junior teachers were

the choir loft were placed by
Jim and Donna Scott in
honour of the marriage of
their' daughter JoAnne to
Larry Joseph Flynn on
Friday evening in the church.

of the marriage of her
.,daughter Shirley Irene to
Wallace John Norman on
Saturday afternoon in the
church and also in memory of

On Saturday evening, a
dinner and social evening was
- held by friends to honour
• Doreen 'and Glen Carter on
their 25th Wedding
.Anniversary. A delicious
dinner was held at the Walton
Inn and all went to the home
of Beryl and Watson Reid
where the couple were
presented with gifts. The rest
of the ev su ing was spent
dancing at f ily Paradise.

Joseph's Hospital, London.
Rev. McDonald was in
Fergus on Thursday af-
ternoon attending the funeral
of his cousin Mrs. E..,
Stevenson.
Congratulations to Bob and
Vi Burns on the safe arrival of
their first great grandchild on
September 22 at St. Joseph's
Hospital, London, Kerri Lee,
a daughter for Ken and Vickie
Dohmer, Kincardine.

Aimwell Units meets
The, September meeting of
the Aimwell Unit was held in
'the church on Monday,
September 19th with. Berean
Unit as guests. President
Audrey Thompson opened the
meeting with a thought for
the day and the poem, and
roll call was answered by 17
members, by writing a recipe•
for a file for Shirley Hunking,
bride -elect.
The Minutes of. the June
meeting were read by
secretary June Fothergill and
the treasurer's report by Vi
Burns. Helen -Lawson
reported the Fall Rally will
be held on October, 25th At
Ontario St. United Church
Clinton and our Thankof-
fering meeting on Monday,
October 3rd at 8 p.m. Joan
Whyte gave a report on the
summer school at Alma
College in August. She
thanked the UCW for sending
her and Marjorie Duizer to
summer school.
The program committee
for Octobr will consist of
Fern McClure, Pat Hunking,
Florence Cartwright and
Velma Preszcator. On the
October lunch committee will
be Ella Jewitt and Helen Lee.
Used clothing for the bale will
be accepted October 4 to 14th
and will be left in the church
basement.
.In charge of the program
were Helen Lawson and Joan
Whyte. Helen gave two
readings. The theme was on
cancer. Films were shown by
Joan Whyte on the work the
cancer society does for
patients through its lodges,
and one on breast cancer and
cancer of the cer"x which
were very informative and
interesting.'
Helen Lawson announced
the "come to' the fair" a
'stewardship event, will be
held on October 1 - 1 p.m. to
5:15 p.m. There still are
tickets on hand. Lunch was
served by Fern McClure, Pat
Hunking, Florence Cart-
wright and Velma Presz-

Londesboro I 4-H
The first meeting of the
Londesboro 1 4-H Club was
held on Wednesday, Sep-
tember 7, Officers are:
president, Pat Bylsma;
secretary, Susan Wallace;
press reporter, Chris
VanSpengen. There are two
new girls in the club, Sally
Pollard „ and Tracy
Greidanus. Leaders are
Hattie Snell and Mary Buf-
finga.
A quiz was held on working
methods in the kitchen.
Grape sparkle was made and
was enjoyed by all, •as was
apricot balls which were not
enjoyed by all. The meeting
ended with the motto. This
was an enjoyable and
educational meeting.
The second meeting of the
Mixed Fruits was held at the
hoine of Sally Pollard on
September 14. Roll call was
answered by naming one
fresh Ontario grown fruit
which had been eaten. It was
decided to call the group the
"Mixed Fruits".
Baked apples and ' fresh
fruit ' cup were made and
enjoyed by all.
Church groups register
'Group registration was
held on Tuesday evening for
Cubs, Scouts and CGIT
Groups with. an excellent
number of young people
registering. Mr. McDonald
and Mike Overholt registered
the Cubs and Scouts with Mrs.
Jim Preszcator and Mrs.
Gordon Hoggart registering
the CGIT group. Following
the registration a future look
was given followed by a film
"the tail ride".
The Explorer Group
registered on Thursday af-
ternoon with their leaders
Mrs. Tom Duizer and Mrs.
Garnet Wright, again an
excellent number of girls
registered. Confirmation
classes began on Monday
with,a good number at-
tendig. The classes will be
every Monday from now until
the end of April.
The UCW are holding their
Thankoffering meeting on
Monday October 3 at� 8 p.m.
when they will be en-
tertaining guests. Guest
speaker will be Miss Edythe
L6ckhart, Goderich.

Auxiliary, mean's that the
Legion has now donated $1000
to the Clinton Pipe Band.
These funds are sorely
needed in order to bring Pipe
Band Uniforms up to par.
In addition, $300 was
donated to minor hockey as a
forerunner for better things
to come.
Poppy Chairman Comrade
Russ Phillips is entering his
busy season. First with the
presentation of two wheel
chairs from the Legion to
Huronview, and next, the
preparations .for 1 the
Remembrance activities.
Here is an advance notice of
activities. Car Poppies will be
available October .22nd at the
Legion. Our Poppy drive will
take place November 2nd.
The Church Parade this year
is at the Clinton Baptist
Church on November 6th.
Remembrance day service
and parade November 11th.
Plans are also being for-
mulated for the 25th
Anniversary c'e'lebration
commemorating the building
of the/Legion Hall. Following
the meeting, a scrumptious
hot lunch was served by the
bar staff.

Huron Lodge stiuts fall mee
The members of the Huron
Lodge started their fall
meetings with a pot luck
_ supper on September 13.
The meeting and dinner
were well attended and plans
were outlined for the coming
year. It was decided that the
group supply the lunch,for the
regular September meeting
of the CCB Blue water Club,
the group felt it a privilege to
do this.
Mr. and Mrs. F. Forrest
supplied some �rusie and
,Mrs. A. John gave a very

Youths escape seriousinjuries
Four young people walked
away with only minor injuries
on Monday, September 19
when the car they were
travelling in was involved in a
single car crash.
According to the Clinton
Police Daniel Darrell, 21, of
343 Victoria Street, was
southbound on Highway 4 on
Albert Street when he applied
his brakes and lost control of
the vehicle he was driving. He
struck . a hydro pole, then
knocked over a highway sign
and bounced off a huge earth
moving tire that was em -
planted in the ground at
Craig's Tire and Auto Shop.
The car then flipped over onto
its roof.
Darrell along with three
passengers walked away
from the car which was
deemed as a complete write
off.
Darrell was 'taken to
-Clinton hospital with minor
injuries along with
passengers, Beverly Dodds,
16, of 98 Princess Street and
Jane Christensen, 15, of 45
W interceurt. James
Shropshall, 20, of 107 Erie
Street was uninjured.
Bowling league
The Tuesday afternoon
ladies" bowling league began
their season on September 20.
Rose Hummel came away
one of the top bowlers with
the high single of 231. Mona
Campbell took the high triple
with 600 and the high average
with 200 points.
In the league standings,
Hurman's Harem hold the top
spot with Lpoints. They are
closely followed by Rosie's
Rebels with 6 points, Nancy's
Chics a:nd the Campbell
Supers with 5 points each,
Boyes Girls with 4 and the
June Bugs bringing up the
r(Ir with 3 points. -
