By Blanche Deeves Worship Service was held in Holmesville United' Church on Sunday at 9:.45 am with - Sunday School being held in the church . hall. Rev. John Oestreicher was in charge. • May we extend from the community our get well wishes to Debbie ,Fitzpatrick and'Tracy Norman. 4-H Meets, The Holmesville 1, 4-H Club I held their second meeting at the home of their leader Mrs. Alvin Bettes. Fifteen girls answered the roll call - name one fresh Ontario grown fruit that you have eaten. The girls chose as their club name, The Apple Dumpling Gang. The discussion included Ontario fresh fruits and imported fresh fruit, the inspection and grading of fruits and selection. The varieties of apples, peaches, pears and plums 'along with other fruits were discussed. A fresh fruit cup. was made using grapefruit and oranges which had been properly sectioned plus a big rosy apple, several baked apples, using variations were made, also a fresh plum and peach compote. A fruit quiz was conducted. The next meeting will be held on October 3 at Mrs. Bettle's. home. Don't forget, girls. to design your cover for the next meeting. WI Meets The Goderich Township met at the Holmesville School on Monday, September 12. Roll call was answered by a public school you attended and its use today. The president Bernice McIlwain conducted the business. The WI convention will be held at the Community Centre at Vanastra. They urge all members to attend. Vanastra Voicings By Meryl Thomas Resource Centre The Vanastra Resource Centre continues to operate at the church every Thursday morning beginning at 9 a.m. Thisweek on Thursday, September. 15,, a film per- taining to family com- munications Will be shown at 10 a.m. Guides and Brownies All guides are reminded that the first meeting of the year will be held on Thur- sday, September 15 at'7 p.m. at the church. Brownies also meet at the church on Monday nights at 6:30 p.m. Any girls who between the ages of 7 and 10 for Brownies, and 10 - 14 for Guides, and have not yet registered, may do so at any of the .meetings before September 30. A memorial service in memory of Lady Baden- Powell will be held on October 2 at the Vanastra Christian beginning at 7:30 p.m. This service is for all Brownies, Guides, Cubs, Scouts, and parents as well as any former guide or guider. • It's . calendar time again and the Brownies and Guides will be calling on all the homes in Vanastra to sell their calendars to help raise money to finance their ac- tivities. Lions Club The Vanastra Lions Club has commenced itg. 1977 - 1978 season. Regular meetings are held on the first and third Wednesdays of each month at the Sandpiper Inn beginning at7 p.m. After a delicious meal there is a short business meeting. followed by - a social get- together. This year the ob- jectives of the Lions Club is to support Scout and Guiding activities in Vanastra. Scouts The Scouts are holding a work bee on September 24 to clean up the new campsite that has been DONATED by ,Mr. Winkler for all the Vanastra Cubs, Scouts, Brownies and Guides to use.
