A Perth CoCinty planner,
Ken Whiteford, told a group
of officials from the county
that if the province does away
with planning boards, then
the municipalities will be
forced to integrate larger
planning systems which
would mean more regional
government.
The St. Marys Journal -
Argus explained that the
meeting was held .to discuss
the province's implications of
the planning act review which
was made earlier this
summer. There are a number
of changes, but the one most
concerning the potential loss
of planning boards. The
reports suggest that
municipalities take over the
workload now being done by
planning boards.
Accoiding to Whitt -Ord,
this would make the work too
heavy for most small coun-
cils. He said that the proposal
might , work in larger
municipalities.
Perth and its 14 member
municipalities have until
October 15 to gather a
collective response to the
report.
After three years of
planning, hoping and can-
vassing, the South Huron
Rec. Centre fipally became a
reality when it was officially
opened.
The Exeter -Times
Advocate reported last week
that almost 5,000 people at-
tended the various events
that were scheduled with the
grand opening and ap-
proximately $20,000 was
raised. Most of this- money
will go to tables, chairs,
kitchen equipment and other The police believe that the

Additional funds are still
needed.
