handsome advertising

long tine arrived in our office
last week. It consists of a
colour photograph and write-
up, mounted in a 9 x 8 inch
photo folder. All this from the
Town of Meaford, beautifully
situated, -as the picture
depicts, on the shores of
Georgian Bay,. 4iThis coming
weekend of September 17,E
Meaford is celebrating its
Apple Festival so, as the
invitation suggests, "there
will be fun and activities for
all the family." That's
Meaford, not far away, if you
want a trip this weekend.

It was reported around
town that Grizzly Adams was
seen on Labour Day weekend.
Actually that was Bruce
Williams, younger son of
Dorothy and Ken Williams
and younger brother of
"Buffy". Since then Bruce
has returned to his study of
Geology at Sir Sandford
Fleming College in Lindsay,
Ontario.
Bruce spent the summer in
the North West Territories,
north of Baker Lake, with a
uranium detection crew. The
boys each had a 9' x 9' tourist
tent for sleeping ac-
commodation and, while at
work, they always carried an
emergency kit weighing 32
pounds. ,With a high tem-
perature around 18 degrees
C., summer swimming was
limited, but Bruce made up
for it on his weekend home.
He found our temperature to
be really warm. Fresh food
and a real bed were luxuries
too.
The above was submitted to
us by "Grizzly's" mother!!

Is nothing sacred anyrhore?
It seems not, considering the rising vandalism in
churches and cemeteries.
The problem is not an isolated oddity, but Is occuring
with prevalence across the country. From the horrifying
idea of some jokers getting their kicks by destroying
tombstones to the theft of religious articles from the
Roman Catholic Church in Dublin. The probl.,m lies very
close to home.
It is not only a case of petty vandalism and cheap
thrills. Last month an elderly man was beaten to death at
the Evangel Temple in Toronto.
Also in Toronto, two Catholic priests were held up at
gunpoint and also the great St. Michael's Cathedral, the
archdiocese of Toronto, has been broken into and now the
priests have a guard -dog to guard over the` rouse of' the
Lord. ,
The problemnot isolated to the supposedly highly
corrupt,.city of Thronto.
In a recent article 9n The Globe and Mail a St.
Michael's priest, Father Love noted that Catholic
churches in Port Hope and Cobourg had been burglarized•
in the past week. Also a total of 13 other Catholic chur-
ches had been hit in the past two weeks.
Father Love explained to The Globe that supposedly a
group of professional thieves have been working over the
London -Kingston area for the past year -and -a -half.
It is sad to think that people have such a lack of respect
and conscience and will stoop to robbing the Sunday
collection or plan such plots as stealing Elvis Presley's
body for ransom.
I'm sure that some of the world's most devoted atheists
have enough honor and regard to acknowledge such a
distinguished institution.
One does not have to be a so-called "religious freak" to
see the wrong in this vandalism. In the same way, one in
their right mind, will not go out and purposely kill'a dog
because they're not animal lovers.
Yet churches are still faced with a task of locking their
doors, acquiring watchdogs and may someday need to
protect themselves with burglar alarms and stronger
defensives like guns.
It seems that the watchful eye from above is no longer
a strong enough force to protect the church from today's
delinquency.
Maybe a bolt of lightning would show the thieves the
error of their ways.

Would IMPACT clarify the
current law regarding door-to-
door purchases, please,
specifically, Is there a can-
cellation clause? and if so,
what does it consist of? Thank
you, w& enjoy your column.
Yes, there is a cancellation
clause for goods sold in this
manner, BUT notice to cancel
has to be made very speedily,
(within 48 hours.) The present
law states that, under the
Consumers Protection Act, to
cancel a signed sales contract,
you must, write a registered
letter to the company con-
cerned, or deliver it per-
sonally within two idays
receiving your copy of t
contract.
This "cooling off" period
applies only to door-to-door
purchases, and only when the
purchase price is OVER
$50.00. Verbal or phone can-
cellation is not acceptable.

A regular reader tells us,
that back in the Spripg, she
sent along a money order to,
Rockwood Gardens in Acton
for • severaI--advertised items,
including a half dozen Dahlia
bulbs. The other merchandise
apparently arrived alright,
but alas, no Dahlia bulbs!
A note she wrote them
received the promise that the
missing bulbs would be for-
warded shortly, but since then
nothing has happened. The
writer tells us that the amount
of money involved is very
small, tart she feels she, is
entitled . to receive what she
paid for.
IMPACT agrees with her
and we forwarded her com-
plaint to the Acton firm. This
was done last week, soy
hopefully they will honouP
their promise, one way or

A letter appeared in IM-

from a reader interested in
finding out who 'her real

Since her letter appeared I
have enjoyed 'a pleasant

of the London chapter of
Parent Finders, a national
non-profit, self help mutual
aid organization that holds
monthly meetings in many
Canadian cities, including
London, Toronto, Hamilton,

Mrs. ploy states that, "
