The annual meeting of the Canadian Bible Society will be held on Tuesday, Sep- tember 13 at 8 p.m. in Knox United Church.; Rev, John Thompson of London, secretary of the London District, will be in charge and will also be guest speaker. He will show the film, Green Jade, a story of the Chinese people and their fascinating traditions; the Chinese language and its remarkable variety. Also the T.C.A. (Today's Chinese version the Bibfe for today's Chinese people). Everyone is welcome. Mrs. Robert Ling and son David of Guelph visited last Thursday with Mrs. Myrtle Munro. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Davies attended the wedding of their great-nephew Robert Frank at Toledo, Ohio and also visited friends in Detroit. Visitors with Mrs. Frances Clark recently were Miss Margo McIntosh of London and Mr. ' Dale Goffin of Orchard Beach. Mrs. Mary Blacker" of Stratford and Mrs. Beth Makins of 'Clinton visited with Mrs. Lillian 'Leatherland last Wednesday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Archer of Lambeth visited last 'Wed- nesday with Mr. and Mrs. Ed Davies. The Auburn Lions Club took part recently in 'the• Howick Lions Club Fun Day and Barbecue at Gorrie. They received first prize for their best designed bed and placed second in the bed race. Those taking part were Bill Sproul, Bill Crawford, Larry Young, Douglas Chamney and Greg Arthur. Another project of the Auburn Club is the in- stallation of a water line to the ball diamond. McDonald. - Ettie Hugill.-36 Youth pleads . not guilty David Keith Sallows, 20, of 20 Victoria Street, Vanastra, entered a plea of not guilty on an arson charge in Goderich provincial court. . Mr. Sallows was charged in connection with a 1974 fire that caused an estimated $22,000 damage to the par- tially compieted•home of then Seaforth Police Constable Ron Lauzon. He was .ap- prehended 'recently following the discovery of new evidence. Trial date was set for October'27. The accused was released without bail on his promise to appear on the day of the trial. 1 n family members .with special recognition made to Mr. George Elwin Raithby °of Guelph who was'named to the Hall of Fame recently for his outstanding contribution in the field of agriculture. ,. At 5 p.m. the happy group left for their homes after a' short devotiobal reading from Mary Raithby .Veltman's weekly column in the Tillsonburg News. A.C.W. , The monthly meeting of the St. Mark's Anglican Church Women was held in the • Church 'with Mrs. John Daer in charge. The opening hymn, Come ye Thankful People, Come, was sung followed by the scrip re lesson, Psalm._ 23. Prayers. were led by Mrs. Andrew Kirkconnell followed by a reading by Mrs. Thomas Haggitt, The Road Ahead. Mrs. Daer gave a reading, If God Went On Strike. Mrs. Robert Slater gave another chapter in the book, -How to be a Christian without being religious, and a discussion followed. Humorous readings out of the Readers' Digest were given by Mrs. Thomas Lawlor. This part of the meeting was closed. with the hymn, Unto the H;lls Around • Do I Lift Up My Eyes. The president, Mrs. Robert Slater was in charge of the business. The minutes were adopted as, read by the secretary, Mrs. John Daer. The financial statement was accepted as given by the treasurer, Mrs. Thomas Haggitt. A letter 'was read from Rev. McNear of Big y► Trout Lake telling of his mission work in that part of Northern Ontario. It was announced that Bishop Ragg would be coming to a Church in the Parish on September 11. Plans were made for the general cleaning of ' the church soon and the roll call was answered by a verse from the Book. of Proverbs. Mrs. Slater gave a list of articles wanted in future bales and the meeting was closed by ' all repeating the Grace. r REUNION Six generations of the descendants of the late George and Mary •Raithby, pioneer settlers of the Auburn. area, came from all direc- tions to Dorchester, on August 27 for their family reunion at the home of Mr, and Mrs. Lloyd Raithby. They welcomed all to their beautiful home and local park. Registration began at 11 a.m. followed by an_ old fashioned family picnic basket dinner with Mrs. Edna Raithby of London and Mrs. Frank Raithby ,of Auburn in charge. Swimming in the pool, shuffleboard, tug of war, log cutting, weight guessing and other contests were enjoyed. Many exchanged photos and the family tree was updated. Mr. and Mrs. Ken Petrie of Kincardine were in charge of this. Mr. Earl Raithby of Goderich wits the oldest person there and Sarah, daughter of Rev: and Mrs. Franklin Morgan of Toronto' was the youngest. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Raithby of Scar- baro were top prize "winners. Mary Jane and Susan Raith- by of Collingwood, daughters of Mr. and Mr•s. Grant Raith- by, entertained with a baton demonstration. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Hallam moved recently into their new mobile home on the farm of their son Mr. Brian Hallam, Mrs. Hallam and family. Mr. and Mrs. George Robb, Michael and Heather of London visited on the weekend with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Sanderson. Thirty-five friends and relatives had a very en- joyable evening last Saturday evening when they helped • Murray and Laura Popp celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary at their new home on the Maitland Block, Hullett Township, formerly occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Jack Hallam.
