And finally, change is ever
a part of the daily scene. For
20 years, from his manager's
perch in the IGA, Lawrie
Slade has seen many from
.this area come and go
through the doors.
This week the "perch" sees
a new occupant. While
welcoming Mr. Ozzie Kuenzig
as manager of the Clinton
IGA, we also wish for Lawrie
and Freda and their family
the hest in whatever lies
ahead.

It was a teeth grinding affair for the competitors, and a
nail biting event for the spectators as Brad"Turner of
Bayfield desperately pulled to bring the flag to the
Bayfield side of the action when they and a team from
Stanley Township battled in a tug of war at the Bayfield
Fair. (News -Record photo)

Hensall UC W have supper
By Hilda M. Payne
The service at Hensall
United. Church on Sunday was
conducted by Rev. Don Beck
with Mrs. John Turkheim at
the organ and Miss, Karen
McAllister at the piano. Piano
and organ duets were played
twice, "Allegratto" by Ha.dyn
and "Supplication" by
Schubert. The title of the
sermon was, "Is there a
solution?"
There is a strong quest for
religion in the world of today
and goodness and badness
both, abound in individuals
with death the final sign of
our insignificence. It is
necessary to see into the
heart of God as Peter did and
then the future holds life.
Continuing the reopening of
Church activities, Unit 1 will
meet at 2 p.m. on Thursday,
September 8 and Unit 2 will
meet for a pot luck supper at 7
p.m. on Monday, September
12.
Mrs. Mary Roobal has
returned home after being a
patient in St. Joseph's
Hospital, London.
" Mrs, Albert Alexander has
been visiting some of her
nephews and nieces in
Qeorgetown and Brampton
last week. While in Brampton
she attended the Bradley -
Alexander wedding.
The Hensall Women's
Institute are reopening their
season on Wednesday,

entertaining the Huron
County Historical Society.

history is invited to attend.

John Skea on Sunday were

Mason and Andrew of Huron
Park while Mr. and Mrs. John
Skea, Junior, and Colin and
Karen visited ovet the
weekend from Brampton.
The Three' Links Senior
Citizens will resume their
meetings .on Tuesday, Sep-
tember 13 with a pot luck

vitation to ,join.
UCW meets
The September meeting of
Unit 4 of Hensall. United
Church opened with a pot luck
supper held in the Fellowship
Hall, and followedwith the
meeting with Mrs. James
McAllister in the chair.
An interesting devotional
was given by Mrs. George.
Armstrong who told of her
personal development
growing up in the church. She
concluded by reading ex-
cerpts from a sermon by Rev.
Leonard . Griffith warning
against criticizing the church
before we' have done all
possible to improve it.
Two readings were given
by Mrs. J.C. Britton, "Better
than gold", and a fable based
on "The. Little Red Hen":
Mrs. Eric Luther conducted a
hymn -sing and later sang a
sola, "Someday He'll make it
plain to me" accompanied by
Mrs. William Rogerson who
also played a lovely piano
solo.
During the business, it was
arranged to have flowers in
the Sanctuary for the services
in September and the general
meeting on October 3 was
announced when Elaine
Townsend will be the guest
speaker. Members were also
reminded of , the Regional
meeting on October 18 at
Centralia. The meeting
closed with the Benediction.

"The pits" in my books is one of, the newest, most
descriptive and fulfilling words in my vocabulary:At
seems to sum up all those lousy, little irritating things
that continually frustrate me, in one short verbal out-
burst.
It's the pits 'when you're hurrying to an appointment or
have your best outfit on for a night out on the town when
your panty hose decides to turn against you and suddenly
disintegrate into a mesh of runs and snags down your
legs, always below the hemline of my dress.
It's the pits when the button you gambled on lasting
another day suddenly -decides to drop off and roll into
some out-Qf-the-reach place.
It's the pits when the special television .show you've
been waiting to see, blurs into a snowy mess on the
screen at the most dramatic moment.
It's the pits when you're sitting amongst a whole group . .
of people and your nose starts to drip and of course you
have no tissues.
It's the pits when you arrive home late at night to find
you've lost your house Keys' and end up waking the entire
family and the dog during a supposed well thought out
quiet entrance.
It's the pits when you have the sudden urge to call a
friend and all you find is pennies in the,
bottom of the
purse after you've made a long hike to the nearest
telephone booth.
But then there are those days when absolutely
everything seems to be going your way.
Like arriving at the gas station with your last five
dollar bill and the attendant accidentally puts in $12
worth and you drive away with a full tank of gas.
You easily forget the pits when every traffic light you
pull up to is green and you just keep sailing down the
street.
There's, nothing more exciting than finding a crumpled
up $10 bill in the bottom of your purse along with that gold
earring, when the weekly, or monthly, cleanout takes
place.
There are days when your Boston Fern suddenly takes
a new lease on life and sprouts one little green curl.
There are days when you wake up in the morning and
every single hair on your head is in place and you barely
have to run a comb through it. There are those days when '
everything seems to go right and the pits suddenly
disappear.

Asa regular summer visitor
to Exeter and area I was
rather startled the other
morning when exercising my
dog in your park to be sud-
denly approached by a man, (1
presume he was a gardener)
who informed me he was
going to take my license
number and turn it into the
police who would then fine me
$25.00.
I asked him to show me a
sign that notified me that 1
was breaking a law. This he
could not or would not do.
Will you clarify this
situation for me please?
There was a local bylaw
passed two years ago which
prohibits dogs hi the park at
anytime, either running loose
or on leash. We do however
agree, that to enforce this law,
signs should be - prominently
posted.

Recently a friend of a friend

he was fortunate enough to
have his stomach pumped in
time, so consequently his life

So far he has not been

Can you tell me who is right,

Up until 1972 you would have
been quite right in your
assumption, but that was the
year that it was abolished. ir4
Canada by Parliament.
Up until then it was usually
punishable by up to six months
in prison, or a $500line, 'but as
we have stated, this is no
longer the case.

Did you know that OHIP

was it just my husband and I?
