Married in Bayfield
Bayfield Baptist Church
was filled with candelabras,
daisies, gladioli and car-
nations in pastel shades for
the August 13 wedding of John
Cecil Cullen, Sarnia, and
Wendy Patricia Greer, RR 3,
Bayfield.
The groom is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. Roy Cullen of RR 2,
Clinton and the bride is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Bert Greer of RR 3, Bayfield.
The double ring ceremony
was conducted by Rev. Brian
Harrison and Miss . Shirley
Keys • provided the organ
music while Mrs. ' Cathis
Cullen was soloist.
For the afternoon wedding,
the bride wore a sheer,
organz9_ gown trimmed with
Swiss guipure lace. The gown
featured an empirewaistline,
A-line skirt; baby doll sleeves
and a Cathedral length train.
She wore a Juliette cap
trimmed with a finger-tip
veil. To complete her outfit,
the bride carried a nosegay of
yellow sweetheart -roses,
stephanotis and baby's
breath.
Mary Jane Schenkel,
Hamilton, a friend of the
bride, was matron of. honor.
She wore a baby blue silk
swiss dot gown fashioned with
an empire waist; scoop
neckline and cap sleeves. A
white picture hat adorned
with a cluster of daisies and
blue ribbon completed her
outfit. She carried -a white
gathering basket filled with
daisies, miniature carnations
and blue streamers.
Joyce Robinson, Goderich,
a sister of the bride, Patti
Greer, Bayfield, . a sister of
the bride and Joy Cleave,
Clinton, a friend of the bride
were the attendants. They
were dressed similar to the
matron of honor.
Christine Potter, Lon-
desboro, a niece of the groom
was flowergirl. She wore a
white double -layer polyester
gown featuring an •empire
waist decorated with white
and blue trim. Her hat and
flowers were the same as the
attendants.
Groomsman was Doyle
Cullen, Clinton and brother of
the groom. Ushers were Ken
Cullen; Toronto, an uncle of
the groom; Randy Robinson,
Goderich, a ftephew of the
bride, and Brian Ferguson,.
Toronto, a cousin of the
groom. .
For a reception at the
Bay ield United Church
pa lour,' the bride's mother
greeted her guests, wearing a
bone white gown. The 1.
sleeveless, A-line dress was -
covered with a lace, floor
length jacket trimmed with
matching material from the
dress. She wore a corsage of
orange roses and bronze
dried flowers.
,,,She was assisted by the
groom's mother, who wore a
fuchsia colored gown. Her
ensemble was completed
with a corsage of white
carnations.
For a wedding trip to
Ottawa and Northern
Ontario, the bride changed
into a white and brown
sleeveless dress accented
with yellow and brown ac-
cessories and a corsage of
yellow pinocchios and bronze
dried flowers. Following their
honeymoon, the couple will
reside at 23 Morris St.,
Forest.
Guests at the wedding
came from .Bayfield,
Goderich, Clinton, Gorrie,
Hamilton, Kitchener, Owen
Sound, Stayner, Toronto and
Exeter.
Prior to her marriage, the
bride was honored at a
miscellaneous shower by the
Bayfield community. The
couple was also honored at a
surprise shower by the
Bayfield Baptist Church and
a shower a t the groom's
parents for relatives and
neighbours.

birthday party in the
auditorium on Sunday af-
ternoon.
Mrs. Lyle Storey of
Seaforth arranged and in -
Clinton's oldestnursing
grad, Ruby Haddy, dies
Ruby Georgina Haddy
Ruby Georgina Haddy, who
was the oldest living grad
from the former Clinton
Nursing School, . died on
Monday, August 29 in Clinton
Public Hospital following a
year's illness. She was in her
83rd year.
. Mrs. Haddy was well-
known in Clinton as well as in
the United States for her
medical work. She took her
post -graduate training at
Polyclinic Hospital. in New
York, ,and from 1918 to 1940
was the supervisor ofthe
operating theatre at the Jane
Brown Memorial Hospital in
Providence, R.I.
The Ruby Haddy Bursary
was also named after her and
is given to nursing students
by the. Clinton Public
Hospital.
Mrs. Haddy was also an
active participant in the Red
Cross blood donor clinics and
a member of the local Cancer
society. In June 1976, she was
given a special award from
the. Clinton , Hospital
Auxiliary.
Along with her nursing,
Mrs. Haddy was also named
the woman of the year in 1976
by the IODE. She was a
member of the Wesley -Willis
Church and• the UCW ; the
Morning Glories; Eastern
Star, as a life member; the
Auxiliary of the Clinton
Canadian Legion, with an
honorary life membership
and the the Clinton Public
Hospital Auxiliary.
Mrs. Haddy was born on
September 29, 1893 to Oliver
and Annie Potter of Porter's

In 1940, after her return to
Clinton from the United
States, she married Alex
Haddy and the two took up
residence in Clinton.
Mrs. Haddy is predeceased
by her husband and survived
by two sons, Wesley of
Toronto and Don of
Mississauga. She is also
survived by four grandsons;
two nieces, Mrs. Margaret
Menzies, Clinton' and Mrs.
Marion Muirhead, St.
Catharines and one nephew,
John Dippell of .Kitchener.
One brother, Dr. Harvey
Potter of Napanee and one
sister, Lillian M. Dippell of
Bowmanville also suf•vive
her.
Funeral services were held
in Clinton on August 31 with
Rev. John Ostreicher in
charge. 'Interment followed at
the Clinton Cemetery.

Haddy, Toronto; Kim Haddy,
Mississauga; Grant Haddy,
Mississauga; Robert Men-
zies, Clinton; Peter

ummerhill ladies meet
The monthly meeting of the
Summerhill Ladies Club was
held at the home of Edith
Wright on August 10. Donna
.Gibbings opened the meeting
with a poem which was
followed by the creed and the
Lord's Prayer.
•Roll call was answered by
21 members telling how many
neighbours they had visited
since the July meeting. One
visitor was also present.
After- that, Donna G.ibbings`
reported that a very suc-
cessful community picnic
was held in the. Clinton
Conservation Park in July.
Margaret Wright will be the
hostess for the September 14:
meeting in the evening..
Lunch and program will be
charged by Marion Snell,
Isabel Stewart and Phyllis
Tyndall. Roll call will be
something impressive that
happened during the sum-
mer.

the program was the Junior
Cross County Squares who
danced two changes. They
include eight boys and girls
ranging in age from five to
eight. Marie Flynn, Nelson
Howe and Harold Black
accompanied the dancers and
singers. There were vocal
numbers by Marie Flynn,
Donna Mcllwain, Debbie and
Dawn Flynn. Mrs. Leybourne
thanked the entertainers on
behalf of the residents.
Twenty residents attended
the matinee See How They
Run at the Huron Country ,
Playhouse at Grand Bend on
Wednesday. -
The residents enjoyed
piano music in three different
areas on Thursday afternoon
played by Ed Stiles, Jake
Roorda and Ethel Hill.
The raffle was won by
Joanne Salverda and the
program by FA/ Merrill who
conducted a contest apd gave
a reading. Olive Penfound
had jokes and Joanne
Salverda had a contest. God
Save The Qyeen and grace
closed the meeting and lunch
was served.
