Colts lead Huron -Perth finals
Last Wednesday evening,
the Clinton Colts scored a run
in the bottom of the ninth
inning to defeat the Dash-
wood Tigers 6-5 in the first
game of the Huron -Perth
finals.

picked up his first win

The Colts took a 2-0 lead in
the third inning. MacDonald
led of with a walk. Mustard
sacrificed MacDonald to
second, and Paul Bartliff
drilled a two out single to
Alight centre scoring
MacDonald and Cal Fremlin.
Switzer took over the
• mound from MacDonald in
the fourth inning and allowed
single runs in the fifth and
sixth innings to tie the game
at 2-2. It didn't stay that way
very long as the Colts scored
tWo runs in the bottom of the
sixth inning. A lead off walk
to Butch Fleet, an error and
siffgles by Doc Miller and
Dave Fawcett produced the
two runs.
• Dashwood came right back
into the seventh with two runs
of their own to tie the score 4-
4. A single by John Hayter,
two hit batsmen and a Colt
error enabled the Tigers to
score their tying runs. Dash-
wood took -the lead for the
first time in the game in the'
eighth on singles by Thurman
and Joe O'Rourke sand-
wiched by a single.
The Colts came right back
in the bottom on. the eighth
inning to tie the score 5-5. A
walk to Miller, a Tiger error
and a single by Richard
Welsh tied the game.
Incidentally, Welsh's single
hit the umpire giving the
Colts a big break when they
tied the score. •
In the Colt's ninth with one
out, Paul Bartliff walked. He
was sacrificed to second by
catcher Fleet, and then
scored as Miller delivered a
ground rule double,
Miller and Fawcett led the
Colts at the plate with two hits
a piece. Fremlin, Bartliff and
Welsh gathered the .other
three Colt hits. The Tigers
outhit the Colts nine to seven
but the Colts won the game 6-
5.
The next game of this best
three out of five series is
slated' for Dashwood. No
dates and times have been set
at this time.
Twp. midgets in finals

The midget boy's have
moved into the last semi final
games. The "B" team is
sitting out waiting for the
finals. They defeated Lon-
desboro two games straight.
. The "A" team beat Auburn
17-9 in their third game, so go
on to play Colborne.
The pee wee "A" boys got
put out of the running in their
third game by Auburn. The
"B" team played Auburn
Thursday night and won 12-
11.
The girls are still trying to
get a good night and diamond
space to finish their semi
finals.
The, Tykes are scheduled to
play their parents this week.
So that outcome should be
interesting.

was timed in 2:02.2. Margie's
Girl finished second in a
2:01.3 mile for her owners

Lester of Forest.
At Clinton on Sunday af-
ternoon, W illa's Ferric had
his first win from three
lifetime starts in 2:09.4 with
driver Ron Williamson. The
two-year-old pacing son of
Ferric Hanover - Willa
Wonder is owned by Bruce C.
Lamont of Seaforth and Ted
Lamont of Waterloo. The
good broodmare Willa
Wonder, owned by Mary M.'
Shobbrook of. Blyth, has also

Rain hampers the Suns at fastball meet
The Milverton Suns were
eliminated from the
,Canadian Senior Women's
fastball championships in
Vancouver on Saturday night
after losing •two consecutive
games.
Sandy Fremlin, a Clinton"
girl who played on the all-star
Senior "A" Ontario team
explained, the loss and said,
"It rained so much that we
d to play three games on

Saturday. We were a little
pushed."

The Suns won their first
five games in the double -
knockout tournament and
came up with a clear win
against the Prince Edward
Island team by 13-2 on
Saturday morning.
However, later in the day,
the Suns suffered their 'first
loss, 3-2 against Quebec. The
Suns had a 2-0 lead in_the
seventh inning but Quebec
tied it up and forced an extra
inning.
"I think we fared quite
well except for the one game
