The bakery, which is located on the south side of Main East has been a family business throughout its lifetime. However present $ owner, Leroy, Zurbrigg, 67, ;p acte the decision to close the bakery because of poor health. He has given up hopes of selling it as 'a business and now, plans to sell the shop on its own. The baking equip- ment is somewhat outdated to suit modern bakeries, and will probably be destroyed. Mr. Zurbrigg will be hanging up his baker's cap band locking his , door on September 3. He has no future plans as yet. Vandalism has been exc- petionally high this summer and the Banner gave a report on the incidents of upheaval, that have occurred in area towns. Extensive damage was done at the Port Elgin 4 Cemetery on August 6 when some 75 tombstones were overturned and toppled. Any replacements will have to be done by the families or relatives of those W "buried there. Also the Port Elgin. recreation centre was the victim of damages on the same weekend. The metal poles holding the netting for the tennis range were bent and uprooted and the netting was torn. A report from the St. Marys Journal Argus told that Brown's United Church will have a number of windows boarded up after they were *smashed by stones. The colorful windows are almost irreplaceable' and it is V believed that about $10,000 damage was caused. Dogs are not only a problem in our cramped cities but they have,... also - become a problem throughout our countryside. The Wingham Advance- i'imes reported that the number of dogs that are being abandoned throughout the townships are increasing and the animals are becoming a menace. George Humphry, road, superintendent for West Wawanosh told the Advance - Times that a number of dogs are running around there and in the spring they run deer and they also chase and kill livestock. He explained that the s township council along with the residents .of Auburn are working on a joint by-law with East Wawanosh and Hullett to control the animals. East Wawanosh has had no claims this year, but last year 20 ducks and one calf were killed. This year Morris Township has paid $262 ,for two ewes and two•lambs and Turnberry had several claims for turkeys and one for sheep. The destroyer will be performing several manoeuvres and will launch a helicopter. The ship.is seldom seen on the lakes in time of peace. Another summer of per- formances at the Blyth Festival has drwan to a close, but during the last week of performances, record crowds attended the plays. The Blyth Standard,ex- plained that "A Sumer Burning" led the way with the biggest audiences over the summer months. It was sold out a number of times and people had to be turned away from tine door. "The Blood is Strong" turned out to be a last minute sell-out despite the low at- tendance for shows earlier in the season. However, the, surprise performance of the season turned out to be the "Shortest Distance Between Two Points". Although it ran at the end of the summer for a two week period, the crowds averaged the 300 mark for the first four performances. The Seaforth arena has had its renovations completed at a cost of $250,000. The new arena includes a rearrangement of service facilities, enlargement, of dressing accommodation, new heating and ice making systems and updating of the, auditorium.
