Arthrias public forum
planned for September
There will be an Arthritis
Public Forum in Goderich
District Collegiate Institute
Tuesday, September 20 at 8
pm, sponsored by the
Goderich Branch of the
Canadian Arthritis Society.
.,The audience will have an
opportunity to ask questions
cif a parte' comprised of Dr.
J.L. " Hollingworth, medic 1
advisor to the Goderich
1 •Branch.; Dr. Manfred Harth,
director of the Rheumatic
Diseases Unit at University
Hospital, Loqdon; , and Mrs.
Judy Threinen,
physiotherapist from Mit-
chell. Moderator for the
forum will be the Bluewater
District field representative,
Mrs. Betty Janke, Walkerton.
The forum .is planned for
the South Street auditorium
at GDCI since there will be no
stairs to climb and everyone
should have easy access to
the •meeting.
The Goderich advisor to the
Bluewater District Board of
the CARS is Mrs. Margaret
Craig, former president of the
Goderich Branch. Current
president is Bill Wark, Mrs,
Lee McCallum is in charge of
publicity;
This group is preparing for
its doo,-to-door campaign for
funds September 12 to 16.
Last year the area raised
$2,314 and it is hoped this
amount can be realized here
again this yearforCARS.
Bluewater Blind meet
The Bluewater Club of the
Canadian Council for the
Blind met in Clinton on
'August 16. Of special interest
was the report brought back
from the Ontario Divisional
Conference of the CCB in
North Bay by George Cox, the
local delegate; activities of
other clubs were reported on.
Rachael Johnston of
Clinton had a short
programme consisting of
piano numbers by George
Cox and several poems, read
by Miss Amy Lamrnie, from
the CCB magazine. This
magazine is available in
Braille, on tape and in print -
it is placed in local libraries
and in offices of Doctors and
Dentists. The programme
ended with a few contests.
To end the meeting, ladies
of the Orange Lodge prepared
and served lunch. The CCB
Club appreciates the use of
the hall, piano and lunch
room, all provided by the
Orange Lodge.

Residents on the south end of Erie Street will be able to
breathe a little easier this coming spring, as a new storm
sewer being put down the street should ease some of their
water. problems. One child nearly drowned in a water -
filled ditch last spring. Here the Public works depart-

Clinton and district obituaries
Bastina Ten Have
Poort
" Mrs. Bastina Ten Have
Poort died at her residence in
Clinton on Tuesday, August
16. She was in her 86th year.
Mrs. Ten Have Poort was
born in Siddeburen, Holland •
on July 27, 1891 to Peter and
Siemetje Poort. She later
married Harm Ten Have.
Mrs. Ten Have Poort lived
in Canada for 11 years, and in
1973 moved to Clinton.
She is predeceased by her
husband and survived by her
daughter, Mrs. Antoon ' K
(Anje) Toxopeus of Bayfield.
She is also survived by five
grandchildren, 12 great
grandchildren and one great-
great grandchild. She is also
predeceased by •five sisters
and seven brothers and two
brothers are- living, Mr:
Harm Poort, Wyoming and
William Poort of Woodstock.
Mrs. Ten Have Poort rested
at the Beattie Funeral Home
and funeral services were
held on Saturday, August 20
at the Christian Reform
Church with Rev. H. Van
Essen in charge. Interment
followed at the Bayfield
Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Martin
Steenstra, Wiebe Postma,
Jan De weerd and Bill
Jongejan.
ADELBERT (DEL) '
GARDNER
Adelbert (Del) Gardner
died on Friday, August 19 in
Alexandra Marine and
General Hospital after a short
illness. He was 89 years of
age.
He was born to John and
Elizabeth (Hamilton) Gar-
dner in Goderich Township on
August 25, 1887. He was a life
long resident and farmer in
Goderich Township until
moving to Goderich 21 years
ago.
Since moving to Goderich,
the late Mr. Gardner had
been actively engaged in
training and racing horses.
,He was a member of the.
Canadian Trotting
Association.
. He was predeceased by his
wife Florence (Perdue) and
one son, Jack Gardner.
He is survived by one son,
William L. Gardner of
Goderich; one daughter, Mrs.
Cameron (Joyce) Thomson of
Trenton; six grandchildren
'"and 13 great-grandchildren.
The Reverend G.L. Royal
conducted a funeral service
at McCallum Funeral Home
on Monday, August 22 at 1:30
p.m.
Interment was in the
Maitland Cemetery,
Goderich.
Pallbearers Were Bill
Gardner, Paul Gardner,
Larry Drew, Bill Fritzley,
Bud Sheardown and Ron
. McGee.
.Wilfred Jervis
A lifetime area resident,
Wilfred Jervis., of Isaac
Street died suddenly on
Saturday, August 19. He was
74 years old.
Mr. Jervis was born in
Goderich Township on April
24, 1903 to Alred and Permilla
Jervis. He was married to
Adella M. Witner in Zurich on
October 21, 1925, and he
worked_ on the CNR for 45
years'before retiring hi 1968.
Mr. Jervis was an active
member in the Wesley Willis
United Church in Clinton and
an honourary ' elder of the
church for over 25 years.
Along with his wife, Mr.
Jervis is survived by two
children Mrs. Don (Audrey)
Wingham

Tuesday, August 23 at; the

Angus Robertson
Angus C.. Robertson of 217
Spencer Street Clinton died in
University Hospital, London
on Friday, August 19. He was
in his 74th year.
He was born in Tucker -
smith Township to John and
Margaret Robertson on

October 19, 1902. He attended
school in Seaforth and was
married to Mary W. Hawkins
in Brussels in 1940..
Mr. Robertson worked as
an accountant with the Bank
of Montreal; was with the
Detroit Stoker Co.; farmed in
Tuckersmith and was a civil
servant 'for the Canadian
Government at CFB, Clinton.

for Family Night with the
Brussels Pipers was post-
poned owing to the weather
and the residents provided
their own musical program.
Mrs. Elsie Henderson played
the piano accompaniment
and arranged the program
which consisted of selectitns
by' the Hu`ronview Orchestra,
vocal solos and duets..
The Hurondale Women's,
Institute from the Exeter
area were hosts for the
August birthday party. 'The
president of the Institute,.
Mrs. Harry Dougal was
emcee for a variety program
with tap dance, and vocal
numbers by Lori and Lisa.

Fern McDougall ac-
companied by Myrtle Brcicl.
Residents taking part were The 21 celebrants were
Mrs., Luella Cox, Josie presented with gifts by the

Norman Speir, Cecil Skinner, her 98th birthday this month

Hugh Love of Huronview
marked the second of two
important milestones when
he celebrated his 90th bir-
thday. In April Mr. Love and
his wife, the former Annie
Jarrott marked their 60th
wedding anniversary.
Mr. Love, a son of the late
Andrew and Rebecca
(Young) Love of Hay
Township and his wife far-
med near Hillsgreen in
Stanlr"" until they
(Bessie) Bromme of
Seaforth, five grandchildren
and one great-grandchild. He
'is also survived by a sister,
Mrs. Morley (Florence)
Cooper of Kippen.
Funeral- and committal
services were held on August
22 at the Beattie Funeral
Home with Rev. J.
Oestreicher in charge.
Interment followed at the
Hensall Union Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Doug
Norman, Jim Butcher, Lloyd
Cooper, Jack Cooper,
Campbell Eyre and Clarence
Hawkins.
He was also, a 50 year,
member and a life member of
the Hensall Huron Masonic
Lodge No. 224, a member of
the Eastern Star Clinton
Chapter No. 266, and a
Member of the Ontario Street
United Church.
Along with his wife, Mr.
Robertson is survived by a ..

years ago.
The couple have a son Earl,
and a daughter Emma, Mrs.

crokinole games and wat-
ching the colour TV in the
couple's Huronview apart-
ment.
