Bike-a-thon
Congratulationsto the
three Vanastra mothers,
Diane Ryan, June Jeacock
,and Sandra McLachlan wfio
biked •the ten miles to
Brucefield School and back in
their efforts to raise money
for park equipment for
Vanastra children and thanks
to the, dads who came along in
their cars to make sure they
6 were safe.
A special thanks to
Freeman Sheppard who met
them at the school to sign
their forms. We were a little
disappointed in the lack of
interest and the small turnout
since this is for the benefit of
all Vanastra children and
we hope that any future ef-
orts will meet with more
nthusiasm. ,
Although only three mums
showed up they were able to
collect approximately $200
from sponsors. A large
majority of the sponsors were
from Dominion Roads in
Goderich and we thank them
very much for their support.
Weather permitting, a
youth bike-a-thon will be held
on August 31 right on our, own
treets in Vanastra. This
Mr -event will be for children
aged two to eighteen years. A
good turnout would 'be
aporeciated as the money is
going towards the park
equipment for the children.
More information and
sponsor sheets may be ob-
tained from Diane Ryan,
'June Jeacock and Sandra
McLachlan.
Benefit dance
A benefit dance for park

Hensall arena to
cost nearly $700,000
The final cost of Hensall
arena should be $690,315,
according to Reeve Harold
Knight.
Hensall building committee
passed a motion of , intent
recently to have Logan
Construction, Lucan, plan the
arena construction for the
$690,315 cost but the plans
have to be approved by
engineering firm C.C.
Parker., London, and the
department of labour, said
Knight.
the tender which could be
deleted by council "but . to
take full advantage._of Win-
tario grants, out of the $24,000
we would only cut our fund-
raising objective by $8;000.
and Wintario saves $16,000",
said Knight.
Knight said the council
could cut an option on the
arena roofing "But there's no
point in' having, a good
building• without a good roof
and good foundation."
The arena construction
would begin by mid-August
and be completed by mid-
February, said Knight.
"We hope to sign a contract
by this week and hope to be
digging by mid-August", he
said.
Knight estimated the
$690,315 cost of the arena
would raise the local fund
raising objective to $175,.000
from the current $150,000
objective. "We're probably
looking at raising the ob-
jective another $25,000, he
said.
The original fund raising
objective was based on an
estimated ° total cost of
$600,000 for construction of
the arena.
