soccer club loses heartbreaker
Clinton Soccer Club lost ,a
heart-bteaker on the weekend
when after playing some of
their best soccer of the year
against Ingersoll Flyers and
being in the Lead for 70
minutes of the game, saw
first Ingersoll tie and then
unbelievably score the
winning goal on the last kick
of the game.
Clinton had taken an early
lead when_. Dan Colquhoun
lobbed a ,cross from Brian
fri iSn.g f i the ge s $(
oale's head into. the back of
the net.
They 'clung tenaciously to
this slim . lead despite
Ingejsoll's frequent forays
into Clinton territory and
try Hessle ood in goal was
leading a charmed life as
Ingersoll missed open goals
on at least four occasions.
Clinton's luck held for 70
minutes until a bad pass back
to the goalkeeper from Randy
Millar was taken away from
Victor Kennedy and gave
Hesslewood no chance as he
tried to get back in goal, to tie
the score at one each.
Clinton hung on through
great pressure and it seemed
as if the game would end in a
tie.
Time was up and the
referee appeared to be adding
time on for delaying tactics
when for reasons known only
.to himself he called a foul on
Brian . Millar and gave a
direct free l4icl on the 18 yard
line.
Uderkh
Clinton lined up but was
unable to stop the ball going
through a maze of players
into the net.
The whistle went for a goal
and for full time right af-
terwards and the dtjected
Clinton players and sup-
porters stood unbelieving at
their badluck.
This. week's game is
against Landon Lions on
Sunday at 6 p.m. at Clinton
, Ar'ena.
