Sunday afternoon, the
Bayfield Lioness Club
arranged an Old Time picnic
in Clan Gregor Square.
Games included three legged
and barrel races and, a
peanut, gum and candy scra
mble which were ,all enjoyed
by- the children and some
adults, The MVliller Sisters of
Dashwood were guest en-
tertainers. Five young ladies
playing guitars, tambourine,`
,maracas . and a snare .drum
and cymbal- and singing
several lovely ";numbers in -
eluding "Amazing Grace" "A
Fine Time To 'Leave Me
Lucille" were very much
• appreciated. and enjoyed by
the gathering. The Bayfield

Lions Gpodtime Band also
favoured with several
numbers with Rose Taman on
piano, Bernie Fansher violin
and banjo, Ken Boyce, guitar,
Ken Knights, bass, Milvena
Erickson, spoons and tam-
bourine and Laura Taman
dancing a splendid step -
dance number. Eric Earl as
guest vocalist favoured with a
number in Japanese.
Following the en-
tertainment and fun games,
the gathering enjoyed a
picnic lunch together with the
Lioness serving coffee and
freshie.
In the report of the float
winners in the Lions Carnival
last week. I incorrectly
reported that the Bayfield
Babes ball team bad taken
third prize. It should have
read the Goodtimes. ball
teain. The Goodtines girls
team is 'sponsored by Ron
Whetstone 'and coached by
Whetstone .and Bill Talbot.
Players' include Barbara
Lindsay, Linda Talbot, Kate
Whetstone, Lore,lie Bjerg,
Shirley Brandon., Pat Cooke
(captain), Karen Talbot,
Matye Francis, Joan Cluff,
Diane Schilbe, Bonnie
Makins, Darlene Reder and
Valerie Merner. (Sorry for
the mistake girls.) ,
Don't forget about the
colouring contest sponsored
by the Bayfield Area Bluebird
Society for the Fall Fair.
Children under eight years of
age may get bluebird pictures
to colour from Harvey
MacDougall or Betty Burch.
Bayfield boys do well in soccer
Saturday, August 6,
Bayfield and Grand Bend pee
wee soccer teams joined
'forces to comPete in a
tournament in Goderich.
They won. two games, tied one
i• nd were all presented with
ronze Medals.
On Sunday, August 7, Fred
Gale, Bayfield coach and
Dave Silcock, Grand Bend
coach formed an all-star
mosquito team to play for the ,
SBorder Cup. The boys were
from Grand Bend, Bayfield,
Goderich and Seaforth. Four
boys from Bayfield made the
team and played their first
game in Petrolia on Sunday.
They had a very good win of 8-
1. Darin Telford scored the
first goal and the team was
very proud of him. Bayfield
boys on the Border team
jIlong with Darin; are Robbie
Chapman, Rick Johnston and
'Wayne Gale.,
Through their efforts the
boys will be receiving their
new track suits this week.
The boys have been selling
•'
tickets for a draw on a pig and
the draw is to take place on
August 25. It was to have been
held on August 11, but some of
the boys are holidaying and
had not turned in their tickets
so it had to be extended for
two weeks.

Obituary
Mr and Mrs. Norman
Talbot who were holidaying
in Holland Lake, Michigan
were called home owing to
the death of their nephew,
Wayne Talbot.
Wayne in his 31st year was
stationed with . the Armed
Forces in Vancouver, •B.C.
was buried in Woodstock on
Monday, August 8, with full
military honours. He was a
son of Mr. and Mrs. Ken
(Phyllis) Talbot of Halifax,
N.B. (formerly of Bayfield).
He is also survived by a
sister Peggy Minard, Halifax
and sister Sharon Talbot of
Woodstock and the three
brothers, Jim of Woodgtock,
Tony with the Armed Forces
in Winnipeg, Manitoba and
Randy at home and his
grandfather, Mr. Ray Schell
of Bayfield.
The sympathy of the
community is extended to the
family in their sad loss.

Falls visited last week with
Mr. and Mrs. George
Gregg.
Mr. John McLeod visited
for a few days with his sister
and family Mr. and Mrs.
Dave Overboe, Scott and
Theresa in Watford.

Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Ball and
son Michael formerly of
Goderich who have taken up
residence in the former (late)
Josephine Stirling home.

in Goderich Alexandra
Marine and General Hospital.
In conversation with a
summer guest of the village,
,Robert Cole of Stratford we
learned something about the
Arlene Langley Training
Centre for slow learners and
handicapped at 112 Fredrick
St. in Stratford. The.Centre is
open to visitors from, 8:30
a.m. until 4 p.m. weekdays
and is for people aged 18 or
older. Once each year .the
centre holds 'a bazaar of
crafts made at the,school and
this year it will be held in St.
Joseph's Parish Hall on
Huron- St. on Saturday af-
ternoon October 29 from 2 - 4
p.m.
The Centre also assembles
small parts for Crane,
Blackstone's, Fram and
Imperial Continental and
according to Robert, the
residents are kept busy most
of the time. Robert and his
family have. been guestsin
the village many times over,
the years and enjoy the
friendliness and interest of its

they will present a play for

The couple married the
shortest time were Ida and
Ed Godkin of Clinton. The
couple travelling the longest
distance were Helen and Red
Howe of Arizona. The prize
for the closest birthday went
to Mr. Ed. Johns of Clinton.
A get well card was cir-
culated and signed by all to be
sent to Mary Gregg who is
confined to Clinton Hospital.
A good program was en-
joyed by all.
The gathering had the
honour of a surprise , visit
from the Lieutenant
Governor of Ontario who is
also Honorary President of
the Senior Citizens of
Ontario; in the person of Mrs.
Pauline McGibbon. She ex-
tended greetings to all the
clubs in Huron County. The
Mayor of Goderich welcomed
the groups to the Town.
A delicious • smorgasbord
supper was enjoyed by all.

to meeting again and en-
joying each others friendship..
