• Gunton Soccer tie with St. Columban
By Rosemary Armstrong
Clinton Soccer Club moved
out of the relegation zone in
the second division league
when it tied an important
game with,St. Columban at
the weekend.
They now lie in the relative
safety of third from last place
with five points while London
Lions have four and St.
Columban, three points.
In an exciting game, St.
♦ Columban took an early lead
,on a good goal which gave '
Juergen Hellman no chance.
Clinton tied the game when
Dan Colquhoun hookeci the
ball past their goalkeeper,
and then went one goal up
when Brian (Smiley)
Newington was in the right,
place to poke home a cross
.from Ray Kennedy.
St. Columban again tied the
game at two each and then
they went one goal up as the
game see -sawed from one end
to the other.
"Smiley" lived up to his
name shortly afterwards
when he was again in the
same spot to- score an iden-
tical goal and once more the
score was tied up.
' Clinton exerted the
pressure from this point on
and had several. great shots
on goal but the score
remained even "to, the final
whistle, and ended in a 3-3 tie.
Every game is very im-
portant now as the second
half of the league .schedule
gets under way and Clinton
looks for points in the fight to
stay out of relegation,danger.
This Week the team travels
to Ingersoll for a 3 p.m. game
on Saturday and returns
home the following week for a
vital match with the London
Lions.,
