Cheryl Jefferson. lY Local girl at CNE The annual "MISS CNE - SWEETHEART OF THE FAIRS°' Pageant is the highlight that kicks off the Canadian National Exhibition on opening day, August 17, This year 80 beautiful queens from their respective Agriculture Societies., in - chiding Cheryl Jefferson of Clinton,will be competing for the Miss _ CNE crown and honour of reigning over 20 days of the Exhibition.. The group went to a "Mennonite Church where the assistant pastor showed the WI "The Mennon„it'e Story" 'whert they first came to America, in 1863. There were many .questions and answers afterwards. He was thanked by Beth Know who had convened the trip, `'an,d following this, the group had lunch at The Stone Crock. A` 25 mile tour of the surrounding country followed when Mr. Iaven Scantz was the commentator, which was very interesting and humorous. A stop was made at St. Jacobs for some shopping time. Beryl Reid thanked Beth Knox for her work, convening the trip, and presented each each with a gift of the trip. Music Results Congratulations to the pupils of Mrs. Gail Lear who tried their piano examinations recently with the Royal Conservatory of Music Grade VIII Honors went to Ian Mann; Grade VI Honors, Barabara Carter; Karen Wood- and Susan Jamieson, with the Western Con- servatory of Music; Grade VI Honors, Sally Pollard. Congratulations to guitar players: Judy Carter and Elizabeth Gibson, Judy won first in guitar solos and she and Elizabeth won first in guitar duets' at the Toronto Music Festival. They spent the weekend of July 23 at the Holiday Inn in Toronto. Personals Mrs. Allen Bosman is a patient '• in Clinton Public Hospital, having had surgery on Thursday, July 28. Mrs. Ted Hunking was admitted to Clinton Public Hospital on Thursday, July 28 and returned home on Monday, August 1. Christine Carter spent Saturday night in Clinton ,,,Hospital following a .car - horse accident last Saturday at '5 pm on Highway 4 at the Londesboro bridge. Her hprse was killed. • Rev. McDonald is leader for ,a PWP Camp at Menestung this week. - We welcome Ms. Bev Cotton and Angela of Clinton, who moved on to an apart- ment in her father, Gordon Harkes' house here. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Crich, London visited . on Tuesday, July 12 with Mrs. Joe Shaddick. Visitors on Tuesday, July 26 with Mr. and Mrs. Orville Newby were Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Conley from Port St. Lucia, Florida. John Cartwight is spending this week attending the Walter Tkaczak HHockey School of St. Marys which is being held in the Mitchell Arena. Mr. and Mrs. Ted Cham- bers and Sherry of Burlington visited at the home • of her aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Burns on Sunday when her mother Mrs. Mary Vaillancount returned home with them from spending two weeks with her sister, Mr. and Mrs. Burns. Weekend visitors with Mrs. Harvey Taylor were Mrs. John McKinnon and her mother, Mrs. H,iwkins of Hamilton. Mrs. Alice Davidson returned home on Monday, July 25 after spending 10 days , visiting friends at Levack. • Mr. and Mrs.. Bev Waliaee and family .returned home from a five day visit to Ottawa and surrounding areas. Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Caldwell returnedd' home •on Thursday, July. 28 after spending a month visiting their daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Crawford of Kelowna B.C. Patricia Stackhouse stopped on her way to Jamiaca on July 23. Pat was the winner in the Open Class in the Kawartha Lakes Ontario Step Dance and Fiddlers Competiton in Bobcaygen. She received a gift of $200 and an all expense paid trip for two for one week in Montego Bay, Jamaica and also won the Gilles Roy Throphy. Rev. and Mrs, Merryn Penfound, Calestor and Blair returned to their home at Shelbrook, Saskatchewan on July 26, after spending July with his mother, Mrs. Olive Penfound and other relations. Mr. and Mrs. Aldof Fangrad, S't. Catharines visited on Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. Allen Shaddick. Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Riley of Niagara ,Falls spent' the weekend with Mr. 'and Mrs. Gordon Radford. Mr., and Mrs. Wayne Jackson, Brian, Ken and Sandra of Ridgetown spent the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs: Tom Allen and attended the Blyth Centennial Celebrations. Mrs. Bill Shaddick, Julie and Junior returned home on July 23 after spending three weeks with her parents at Portage La Prairie, Manitoba. Bill visited the first week in July. The..WI Education meeting will be August 10 at 8 p'm. Speaker will be Mary Mit- chell and 'the roll call is a .TV commercial that insults your intelligence. Invitation and introduction of young women guests from Auburn and Walkerburn will take place and a penny sale put on by the. last .half of the members will be held. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Shobbrook, Diana and Mr. and Mrs. Bert Lyon, Cheryl returned home on Friday night from a week's vacation in ' Algonquin Park and Huntsville. Enroute to Ottawa, thegroup visited places of interest and took a tour of the Thousand Islands nthen to Ontario Place, Toronto. Mr. and Mrs. John Lawrie, Robbie and Jennifer of Kit- chener spent the- weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Thompson and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Lawrie of Blyth. They at- tended the Blyth Centennial'. Also Mr. and Mrs. Ray Radford of London .are with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Thompson.
