Rathwell clan gathers
The 19th reunion of the
Rathwell families was held in
Seaforth Lion's Park on July
47. Attendence was down this
year to 75, as the hot weather
discouraged distant
travellers.
Mrs. Betty Millar,
president, welcomed
everyone and sthe picnic was
enjoyed by all.
Gerald and Jean Rathwell
of 13rucefield conducted the
afternoon activitiesand the
results were: eldest person at
the dinner table, Edna
Stewart of Clinton; youngest
person, David Rathwell of
Varna;, person coming the
farthest, Kenneth Stewart of
Toronto; person with their
birthday nearest to the picnic
were twins, Beverley Rath -
well of Toronto and Barbara
Helm of Lucknow; the couple
married the longest, Clifford
and Edna Stewart; wedding
anniversary closest to July
17, Bill and Sandra Rathwell.
Mr. and Mrs. Albert Horner
were the eldest couple at the
picnic coming later in the
afternoon. Pat Norman of
Varna guessed the mystery
object and Mary Nicholl of
Toronto guessed a number of
jelly beans in a jar.
Races were also held.and in
the five years and under class
with the winners being,
Krista Rathwell, Julia
Beynon and Lee Norman;
girls eight years and under
class, Kathryn Rathwell,
Tena Bruinsma and Robyn
Norman; boys eight years
and under, Peter Beynon,
Kent Rathwell and Kevin
Lind of Toronto.
In the girls 12 years and
under the winners were:
Mary Nicholl, Kimberly
Rathwell and Kathryn Rath -
well; boys 12 years and un-
der, .Scott Mill.er, Peter
Beynon and Keven Lind.
Brenda Millar, Mary
Nicholl and Becky Rathwell
won in the teen girls class
while Craig Millar and Scott
Millar of Londesboro won in
the teen boys class.
Inthe .back to back races
for girls 10 years and under,
the winners were Becky and
Kimberly Rathwell, Tema
Bruinsma and Sheryl Linci. In
the back-to-back race for
boys' 12 years and under the
winners were Lee *and 'Kent
'Rathwell, Scott,' Millar and
Peter Beynon.
Bruce Rathwell won in the
men's race and. Brenda
Millar took the ladies race.
Mary Nicholl, Sheryl Lind
and Lisa Grigg won in the
girls' kick -the -slipper, while
Derek Baechler of Port Elgin,
Scott Millar and Ben Rath -
well took the boys' race.
Brenda Millar and
Kathleen Beynon took the
ladies' kick -the -slipper while
Don Rathwell and David
Beynon took the men's
division.
Craig and Brenda Millar
won in the couples' back-to-
back race while Mary Joyce
Baechler won the signature
contest.
The executive for 1978 is as

'Babes in in Arms", the original Richard Rogers -Lorenz Hart musical comedy wlilch
opened at the Huron Country Playhouse on Tuesday, plays until August 6. The show
features many well-known songs and a large cast, and can seen every night, Tuesday
through Saturday at 8:30 p.m., with matinees on Wednesday and Saturday at 2: 30 p.m.
Ripley craft show set
Plans are being finalized
for the Annual Craft Show
and Sale which will be
presented by .Huron -Bruce
Arts and Crofts Incorporated
in the Ripley -Huron Com-
munity Centre in Ripley on
Friday, July 29 from 10 am to
9 p.m. and on Saturday, July
30 from 10 am to 6 pm.
The conveners, Mr. and
Mrs. Oliver McCharles and
their committee have ob-
tained a large group of
crafters with a varied and
interesting array of crafts
where there will be
something of interest to all
ages.
Antiques and many crafts
such as crocheting, china
painting, oil painting, wood
products, quilts, ceramics,
various types of jewellery,
rugs, pottery, leather, dried
flower arrangements, apple
head dools, Japanese em-
broidery, perfume, silk
screening, clay' animals,
Bruce County Tartan, cop-
percraft, paper tole,
macrdme and many more
will be for sale by crafters
fromacross Ontario. There
will also be'clemonstrations of
some crafts.
Everyone enjoys fresh
garden produce and home
baking which will be
available. There will also be
lucky draws, entertainment,
food and fun. The proceeds,
as in the past, will go to
community projects.
Puppet show
at Playhouse
Toronto's Pepi Puppet
Theatre will perform "Hansel
and Gretel" at the Playhouse
pn Saturday morning July
30th at 10 :30 a.m.

known on television, are
recognized qso one of the
leading showsof its kind: The

'of Andrew Taryon, is actually
15 years old. it,h6 its origin
in Europe before rnoVing to
Toronto five years ago.
Tickets for the per-
formance are available at a

throughout the area. There
are no reserved seats for the
performance; tickets may be
purchased at the door. Ticket
prices are $2.50 for adults,
and $1.25 for children.

-Holstein club judges cattle

About 110 members of the
229 member Huron County
Holstein Club met Thursday
evening at the farm of Mr.
and Mrs. Hank Binnendyk of
RR 2, Kippen, for demon-
strations in judging dairy
cattle.
Jim Needham of Ripley
was the official judge for the
twilight meeting.
Many of the members with
Holsteins in the 4-H dairy
clubs from across the county
attended.
Entertainment and lunch
followed the judging.
