THE HOME OF MRS WA TKI NS COUNTRY KITCHEN Huron County's Finest Dining and Banquet Centre 'AiD` 36 (made into the famous movie starring Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney) opens its two-week run - at the Playhouse Tuesday, July 26th. Updated to the early 50's, the show includes all the .original hits tunes "Where or When", "M,y Funny Valen- tine", "Johnny One -Note", "That's Why the Lady is a Tramp" and many others. The show is set -.ironically enough. - in a summer stock Theatre and involves a cozen energetic young theatre hopefuls who sing and dance their hearts out - in pursuit of making it big in show biz! "It bubbles", says director James Murphy; "The show bubbles -with life, laughter and young love." The cast includes Araby Lockhart (a Wayne & Shuster regular) Bob Windsor, (whose • last Playhouse .ap- pearance was as Barney in "Red Hot , Lovers".) Theobald, who until v.' recently » was owner of the Bridgton Art Gallery in Maine, serves as auctioneer for Canada on Canvas and is an accredited art auctioneer. Her husband, Bill, a member of the Recreation Depart- ment at the University of Waterloo, is a registered art appraiser and a member of the Board of Directors of the Kitchener -Waterloo Art Gallery. The 100 works of art were selected primarily in Canada, Europe and the United- States and they include original oil paintings, lithographs, et- chings, woodcuts, serigraphs, watercolours, 'sculptures and, objects d'art. The base value of the collection has been set between $35,000 and $40,000. Among the more -unusual items are - the original tapestries by the Cuna Ilndians of the primitive San Blas Islands in the Caribbean off' Panama, a rare Man Ray hand colored - etching, a Picasso drypoint and three out of a series of 52 large doubleside playing cards by Jean Dubuffet of France, which he completed , for a show . at the Guggenheim Museum in New' York. The base pric#e of each card is $85. Dubuffet's lithographs sell in contemporary galleries for $5,000. Each work will have a base reserve price, ranging from $50 to $2,000 or more.
