Neighbours and friends came to the rescue last week and
moved most Of the furniture out of a house when it caught
fire. The house, owned by Lewis Dempsey. on the Cut
Line, suffered extensive smoke and water damage, but
most of the furniture was saved. (News -Record photo)

who took a record 'of 2:02.1 at

hand for the Clinton races on
Sunday, July 3.,Dennis Jewitt
is to be thanked for the many
long and sometimes very late
hours he has spent working on
the race track to get it in such
excellent condition for the
races.
Not only was the track
record .of 2:04, set by Little
Arnie last Septmeber, broken
in the fifth race, it was also
beaten again in the tenth.
Scarlet Son holds` the new
record for pacers of 2:02.3..
The four-year-old gelding by
Scarlet Wave - Abigail Edna
picked up the winners share
of the $2,975 purse in the first
division of the" Ontario
Harness-- Horsemen's
Association Stakes for four-
year-old pacers. He is owned
by Mrs. Grace Billers of
.•Bran'ton and was driven by
Carl MacArthur. They were
presented with a cheque' for
$50 by the-el-biro-II—Kinsmen
Club . for breaking the track
record.

Clinton's Fleming Stallions in
an easy win over Bayfield on

had two goals each.
On Sunday,' June 26 they
travelled to Torontp where
they played Guildwfiod in the
Ontario Cup. Parents ant
friends who went with the
boys witnessed . one of the
finest garnes of soccer to be
played by 12 and 13 year olds.
Clinton lost the game 3-2
against. Toronto's best but
coach T'onyJeacock said, "As
coach it made me proud to be
part of the team and to
represent Clinton."
• • The boys went right into the
'attack at the start with Wise
,coming close to scoring twice
-and put the home clubs into
panic and then made thein
defend desperately„There
were some near misses at
both ends ,before Guildwood
opened the -scoring. Wise
came right back on a pass
from John Elliott to put the ,
Stallions on even terms.
Guildwood scored just
before the half ;may mark to
go ahead again, but the -
country boys came back
again in the second half and
had the city defence in panic
again. Wise got his second
goal of the game when -Scott,,,
Bell's pass put him in the
clear.
With .about 10 mintites'•left,
Guildwood got what proved to
be the winning goal but they
were forced to defend to the
very end as the Stallions just
would not give up.
